A Brotherly War

The Beginning of the Hughesist Dynasty...

It was about eighteen hundred hours, as some people like to describe it, at night. I was in my office, reading over the last piece of news, with a bottle of vodka and a cup right next to me. The generator was acting up in the base, so the cold was almost unbearable. The coffee was cold, and if you wanted to sleep, you had to basically sleep in your uniform in order to have some comfort. Yes we had a few cases of asthmatic attacks, but we got through. I brought in an old engineer friend from the Old Communist days of Hughesity to help fix the generator after almost a fourth of the base was in our hospitals, where we couldn’t get any treatment. Yes things were rough, but we got through, without power and without heat. Yes, this would spark the revolution to come. You see? After that incident, the military was a bit skeptical of the current Imperial Government, leaving its soldiers out here to die. This played right into my plan to seize control of the government and bring back the once feared Hughesist Empire! Yes, the Hughesist was at one point in time, one of the most powerful, feared, and loved nations in all the land! If you wanted to do anything back in those days, you had to have Hughesinapolis’s permission. Now, the great state of Hughesi has become weak: an imbecilic government to the United Nations and others, siding with whatever they wanted, forgetting our heritage and history.

The UN has even brainwashed them, into believing that nothing we did, helped the country. Well just in case you know nothing of the history of the great state of Hughesi, let me explain it to you. My father: Don Hughes Sr., rest in peace, was one of the greatest leaders of the state of Hughesi. Despite his dealings with other nations, my father managed to build Hughesi into a superpower! He did exactly what he wanted for Foreign Policy, and because he proudly stood for the true colors of Hughesi, but eventually my father’s power began to wear thin because of the sinking of the economy due to trade embargoes set by the United Nations. My father was assassinated on March 15, 2004. Capitalist pigs will tell you that my father killed millions and millions of people for the fun of it, well they are absolutely crazy. My father killed off his enemies: the enemies of the state of Hughesi, the enemies of the people, and the enemies of the Socialist ideal all together. They deserved to die, and I felt nothing, being apart of  my father’s shooting squad. Yes, that’s where I got my sheer brutality from, and I don’t regret a bit. After my father was killed, my brother took charge. Many speculated, including me, that my brother John was indeed the person responsible for my father’s lack of security that day. My brother was nothing but a pawn for the corporations and the capitalist nations of the UN, but he didn’t care. He thought he was doing good for this country. Well he was wrong. My brother put me in charge of the Fort Ivanov Military Base situated near the east border of our city. He wanted me as far away from him as possible, because I guess he felt threatened. He couldn’t kill me, because then that would upset the public, and lead to more speculation.

Anyway, now that you know enough about my background, let me tell you about the beginnings of my rise to power. This incident at the Fort Ivanov Military Base in Moscow sparked a lot of hate by the military and there’s one thing that you never want to do as a leader, and that’s lose the support of the military. I really don’t know how I was able to keep my position as General of this fine Hughesist Army, but the men loved me and not to mention the medals I have received from the government. I was also a good tactician in the ways of training my men to be evasive and effective on the field, instead of relying on numbers to win battles. You can easily rip apart a larger offensive if you have an excellent defensive. I’ve been in situations where a bunch of barbarians surrounded our forces, and I received word from Hughesinapolis that we had to hold our position on this ridge or else we would be subject to execution. Well you can’t be Emperor and be dead, so I followed my orders. I had my men build trenches and position themselves inside facing the army that was charging over the hill with machine guns and turrets. I had explosive experts place what little charges we had left under patches of grass, so if they charged us, the whole army would go BOOM, and it would be an easy victory for the Hughesist People, but it didn’t go that way that day.

The Barbarians split up into three parts and charged us from every direction, at night. We were in the tent’s sleeping and preparing for the next day’s battle, when all of a sudden a man assigned to the watch ran into my quarters and told me of the oncoming Japanese attack. “GENERAL HUGHES! GENERAL HUGHES!  THE BARBARIANS ARE ATTACKING!” I remember him yelling as he charged my room. I woke up to the sounds of sirens and thumps of Barbaric forces charging us. The men and women of the Hughesist Army woke up in an instant, grabbed their rifles and ran out there, placing their weapons along the trenches, and being ready to fire. We had a few grenades and little turret fire, but we had a ton of Hughesist rifle ammo and Vodka, to last through the battle. They charged at us, not knowing that the charges were set. “DO NOT FIRE UNTIL I SAY SO!” I shouted in nothing but my hat, underwear, and coat. I could tell that the men and women were a bit scared, not being able to fire their guns, as they saw the Barbaring getting closer and closer, shivering and shaking while holding the rifle. When one stupid Barbarian stepped on the trip wire, him and about the whole two lines of Barbaric forces blew into pieces.

Now was the time. “FIRE FOR THE HUGHESIST PEOPLE!!” I yelled as I pulled out my firearm. At that moment, all of my army began to fire, along with me, ripping right through the Barbarians. We used up every piece of ammunition we had, laying suppressing fire with the turrets and reloading clip after clip on the Barbarians. We even had to engage in melee combat, with rifles and combat knives. It was a bloody day. We even used the vodka in the back as weapons, using the new invention of the Molotov cocktail, to light fire to the barbaric pigs. With only under two hundred men, we were able to stop one thousand barbaric pigs. It was beautiful. We lost about fifty men that day, but when we marched back to the city of Carnagien with people cheering for us in a large Hughesist Parade. Even my uncle, Senator of the Hughesist Congress, Melvin Hughes was there, smiling with his medal case. We walked up the stairs to the glorious Congress building and were all awarded with the prestigious Hughesist Cross, for our bravery from then on. When I shook hands with my uncle for the papers, my ambition grew, for one day, I wanted to be leader of the Russian Government.

After my idiotic brother basically gave into the United Nations, destroying all what made Hughesi great and independent, I knew I was the only true Hughesist with prominence that could take the military back from the oppression of Capitalism, and this was the perfect moment. People were suffering under the regime and after the night at Ivanov, with a quarter of the troops ending up with a breathing problem, the military was ready for a change and there it was, revenge on a silver platter. The next day I spoke with some of Hughesi’s top Generals about a coup’ d’etat and creating a new Hughesist Empire, restoring the once great empire we had. Most of the Generals agreed that the state of Hughesi should come back due to the paychecks of the military being cut, due to budgets and ill taxing. I had always floated the idea around, but no one really listened until that day. I felt sort of bad raising an army against my own brother and his imperial commanders, but it was for the good of the state that I be head of the country. The government sent the families of troops a letter of apology after the Ivanov incident, and that was about it. Now, had some corporate pig died, the family would’ve received some money, but nothing but a letter, incited the people that it was time for a change of government. One of my best men: Lieutenant Agrippa, came to me and told me of other men in the regiments of the men who opposed a new state, and well all I could do was drink Vodka and smile.

The next day, I met with Hughesist Party Officials who were just aching for a new Hughesist state. They needed a true Emperor, and I was the perfect man for the job. I was the youngest son of Don Hughes Sr., a decorated general, and a stern man. They staged a rally for the new Hughesist Army, and me as we were calling it, in the middle of Carnagien: a city in the eastern province of Hughesi. While people were driving down the road, we marched through the streets, causing every pedestrian to take notice of our presence. I marched up the stage with the Hughesist  banner and my armed supporters in the back of me, with a microphone and a crowd of people in the front. Once my troops were in the back of me standing proud for their country, I began to make my speech. “Hello Hughesist Peoples. My name is Don Hughes Jr: son of the greatest general and leader of the Hughesist Nation, and I have a message for you people and the current oppression of the government. THIS GOVERNMENT HAS DONE NOTHING TO PROTECT OUR PROTECTORS. MY MEN AND ME SAT WITHOUT HEAT OR POWER FOR DAYS. WE TOLD THE GOVERNMENT AND THEY DID NOTHING. THESE CAPITALISTS HAVE RUINED OUR GREAT COUNTRY OVER AND OVER AGAIN, BY NOT BEING PROUD OF THEIR COUNTRY. THEY’VE ONLY BEEN TRYING TO MEET THE UNITED NATION’S DEMANDS. THE UNITED NATIONS HAS BRAINWASHED THEM INTO BELIEVING THAT THE ARMY OF HUGHESI IS EVIL! THEY HAVE BRAINWASHED THEM INTO BELIEVING THAT THE THESE MEN STANDING BEHIND ME, AREN’T IMPORTANT ENOUGH TO BE CARED ABOUT, THOUGH THEY RISK THEIR LIVES EVERY DAY FOR EVERY ONE OF YOU! THIS IS HOW THEY REPAY THE GREAT NATION OF HUGHESI! THEY DON’T CARE ABOUT THE TROOPS SO THEY MUST NOT CARE ABOUT YOU. I MEAN LOOK AT OUR COUNTRY, SWINDLED BY CORPORATIONS. WE DON’T EVEN HAVE OUR COUNTRY ANYMORE. THE CORPORATIONS HAVE OUR COUNTRY. THEY HAVE TAKEN THE PRIDE AND SOUL FROM THE HUGHESIST PEOPLES, AND WE HAVE STOOD BY LONG ENOUGH, FEARING FOR OUR LIVES, BEING ACCUSED OF BEING A COMMUNIST. YOU SEE THESE CAPITALIST PIGS HAVE INSTALLED THE FEAR IN YOU THAT WAS NO DIFFERENT FROM THE BRUTALITY OF HITLER! THEY CLAIM THAT JUST BECAUSE HUGHESI HAS A FREE ECONOMY, IT IS FREER THEN EVER. WELL, COMRADES, I MUST SAY THAT IS WRONG, FOR I SEE NO SAFETY. OUR SAFETY WENT OUT THE WINDOW, WHEN THE GOVERNMENT DECIDED THAT MONEY IS WORTH MORE THAN PEOPLE. WELL I TELL YOU SOMETHING! THE WORKERS MAKE THOSE BUSINESSES PROSPER. EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE SUCCESSES OF THIS BILLION DOLLAR CORPORATIONS WHO POLLUTE THE GOVERNMENT AND THE HISTORY OF RUSSIA. THIS GOVERNMENT HAS MANIPULATED US INTO THINKING THAT THE GREAT HUGHESIST STATE WAS NOTHING BUT A WAR MONGER, WHO LAUNCHED A WAR AGAINST OUR OWN PEOPLE, WELL LET ME TELL YOU SOMETHING THEY WILL NEVER TELL YOU: THE UNITED STATES HAS THE LARGEST EXECUTION RATE IN THE WORLD! YES COMRADES, THEY ARE THE TRUE HYPOCRITES AND NOW THEY HAVE WOUNDED SOME OF OUR OWN. ONE FOURTH OF MY REGIMENT WAS SENT TO THE HOSPITAL BECAUSE THEY HAD BREATHING PROBLEMS AFTER BEING STUCK IN THE COLD FOR DAYS. I DON’T EVEN KNOW IF SOME OF THEM WILL DIE OR NOT, BUT I TELL YOU. WE WILL NOT LET THESE PEOPLE GET AWAY WITH THEIR CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY. HUGHESI USED TO BE ONE OF THE GREATEST COUNTRIES IN THE WORLD, NOW IT HAS BEEN REDUCED TO WHERE OUR OWN GOVERNMENT DOESN’T CARE ABOUT OUR CULTURE, OUR MONEY, OR OUR PEOPLE. COMRADES, I ASK THAT YOU STEP UP AND SUPPORT ME FOR EMPEROR OF THE HUGHESIST STATE, SO THAT I MAY RESTORE WHAT IS LEFT OF OUR GREAT COUNTRY!” I yelled out to the people, gathering a HUGE crowd and press coverage.

I could tell as I looked out into the crowd, that some people were appauled that I would go against my own brother, but like I said, I had to do what I had to do. After I had finished my long statement, I heard claps thunder throughout the audience, which brought sort of a tear to my eye, as I drank some water and finished it off. “NOW I KNOW WHAT YOU PEOPLE ARE THINKING! YOU ARE THINKING THAT I MUST BE CRAZY FOR GOING AGAINST MY BROTHER. WELL, LET ME TELL YOU SOMETHING. MY BROTHER HAS BEEN MANIPULATED BY THE CORPORATIONS AND THE CAPITALIST PIGS IN THE UNITED NATIONS, AND I WON’T STAND FOR IT ANYMORE! MY BROTHER JOHN MUST FALL IN ORDER TO SHOW THE MANY NATIONS OF THE U.N THAT THEY WON’T BE ABLE TO ABUSE AND MANIPULATE THE NATION OF HUGHESI, BECAUSE WHEN I MARCH RIGHT INTO HUGHESANAPOLIS WITH THE LOYALTY OF MY TROOPS AND THE PEOPLE, THESE SWINDLERS OF DEMOCRACY AND HAPPINESS WILL NOW KNOW THAT THERE’S A NEW EMPEROR AND HIS NAME IS DON HUGHES JR! HEIL HUGHES!” And that’s the way I finished it off. The theme of the Hughesist Republic blasted throughout Carnagein. Cheers rose to a climax as the old anthem played and I waved to the people. None of my brother’s police showed up, because, well we had the army and well I’m sure they agreed with me that this was the beginning of the new Hughesist dynasty. I raised my arms to the people, getting a huge ovation. This was just the beginning. A war was about to begin between brothers. Talk about Brotherly Love eh?

“Convincing the Senate..”

Days had passed since I had my powerful speech to the people of the Hughesi Nation. I could tell many were moved by it, and who could blame them? I mean, my brother had allowed big business, lobbyists in the senate, and the church to sway his judgment to their will. I could tell by the standing ovation I was given at the end of the speech, that the Hughesist People were tired of it. Their very lives had been impacted by my brother’s mistakes, and I wasn’t going to take it anymore. I rallied together my troops outside of the Hott wall, preparing them for war, when suddenly, captain Marc Carney approached me with a political proposition, that would help me greatly in my quest for power. “General Hughes!” He shouted from about six feet away, running through the fresh green fields, hoping that his armor wouldn’t drag him down to his knees. “Yes?” I said with a quick sharp about face, completely turning around. The Captain saluted me, trying to keep his strong posture, but failing miserably. He placed his hands on his knees and began panting. I just stared at em for a moment, until I noticed my men breaking their position of attention.

I turned around as quickly as a bolt of lighting, staring all of them in their faces. “Get back to the position of attention!” I yelled with a Satanistic look, returning the troops to their once prideful stance. Having my troops looking good again, I turned back towards my Captain, lifting him up by the shoulders. “Are you alright Marc?” I said addressing him by his real name, considering the friendship we shared. We had been in many battles together and he was my most trusted comrade. I could trust him with anything and that’s why if I were to ever die, he would takeover my armies. “Yes I’m alright.” He proclaimed to me, changing his posture to a more prideful one. “What is it that is so urgent that you almost ran out of breath?” I asked with a grin, maybe letting out a small hint of laughter or two. “Senator Bakara would like to meet with you tonight at the fair grounds about a half o’ mile from here. He says he has something important to talk to you about.” He briefed me. Just in case, you don’t know who Senator Bakara is, he’s the head of the Hughesist Senate.

*Senator Bakara*

A very cunning man, Senator Bakara was. He’s always said that he was looking out for the interests of the Hughesist People. I neva believed it though. He would always spill that nonsense to my fatha, and my fatha would believe it, succumbing to some of his tricks, but unfortunately, I was my fatha’s son, so like my fatha, I answa’d “What does he wanna do, teach me about political change?” I asked, laughing a bit. “Of course I’ll meet with him. A man as powerful as Bakara must want something good with me. Maybe he sees that we can win. Who knows? I will meet with him. You stay here with the a’my, and have them ready, just in case, instead of Bakara, it’s the 505th.” I briefed my Captain, patting him on the shoulder after I did it. After that was said, I had a private help me onto the top of my horse. “Don’t worry I’ll be fine.” I told Marc, before tugging on the rope, allowing the horse to run. I rode off into the night, as if I was Robin Hood or some other medieval fairy tale.

It was nine o’ clock after sundown. I was still riding, though I was very close to the place that the Senator wanted to meet me. Finally, after about ten minutes, I reached my destination and I could see the Senator was there, wearing his white and red tunic, carrying that same depressing face that made him so famous within the senate grounds. The horse came to an abrupt end right in front of him. I stepped off, looking confident with my steel plated armor, and red cape, along with my titanium sword, strong enough to cut through just about anything. “Senata’ Bakara. How much of a….pleasure it is to see you?” I told the old senator, pausing in between my statements with a smirk on my face. “Ah yes, what great pleasure it is to see you Donald.” He stated with a small grin as we shook hands. “So what is this urgent business Captain Carney was telling me about?” I said. I liked getting straight to business, especially when I was at night with a man who could be a loyalist to my brother. “Well, I see you’re just like your fatha, getting right down to business. I know you are a busy man so I’ll get right down to it. I noticed your little speech the other day in Carnegie, and I must say I’m impressed. You won over the people by your love for them. Your strong sense of nationalism impressed a few colleagues and me. Since, we, in the Senate, are all peace loving representatives of the people, I would like to extend my services to you. Your brother, since that speech, has been cracking down on everyone, setting national curfews, becoming more and more a pawn of the church by exterminating anyone who didn’t follow our religion. It has been crazy, and being a senator, I don’t know if I’ll make it past the next day because of this. You must help us. For the people.” He pleaded.

Wow, I must’ve gotten under my brother’s skin, because he was really cracking down on the entire Hughesist population. When I heard of the things he was doing, I couldn’t help but smile. I must’ve had him nervous. After all, I was the favored son by the senate and the people. I didn’t quite trust the Senate though. I mean, their vote was powered by money and with all the taxes my brother was raking it, it would seem damn near impossible to raise a vote against him, but of course, I succumbed to Bakara once again. “Of course my old friend. Listen to me. You go back to Hughesinapolis. Raise a secret, off the books meeting, with the senate; tell them that their true ruler will be home soon. That is all I need. The war will begin soon, but let your friends know that they will always have a ‘place’ within the new regime.” I briefed him with a slight grin on my face, uplifting the old man’s spirits. I shook his hand and got back on my horse. “God be with you.” Bakara told me, before I rode off on my horse, all the way back to the troops. Now that the senate was silenced, I would now have all the support I would need to seize the city and claim what was truly mine: the title of Emperor.

OC: Nice RP, but for your battle with "barbarians", I hardly see any military prominence when a industrialized military force wins against archaic inferior people, especially when armed with rifles and machine guns. Lay some barb wire and trenches around yourself, and you're untouchable, even if you were attacked by a large force of similar tech (See World War I). Its more in the lines of American military slaughtering Native Americans. Of course, this is at the bias of your own character, so sorry to interrupt. Keep it going!

OOC: Empire of Hughesists, you have gained favor with the Cartographer, as such I am granting you special award, you can ask for a place on the map without 30 posts as this privilege goes to great RPers and you can just ask for a spot right now.

Though good I do have to remark there is no "Japan" or "Russia" Taijitu is an actual planet with its own nations etc.

The Final Battle

Myself

Emperor John Hughes

July 4, 2007: The true Day of Reckoning. That was the day in which every Hughesist citizen would be impacted to the fullest. That was the day in which the war would end. It was the final day of conflict. It was Armageddon. Nothing could stop the events that took place on that day. Believe me I know. It had been several years since the war had started between my brother and me. I wish I could go into a lot of detail about what happened the final day of the battle, but it would just be too hard plus it would take forever so I’ll just stick with the basics. My brother and I had begun a worldwide civil war in the country. There was my brother and his loyalists who were loyal to nothing but greed and pure capitalism and then there was my army and I: fighting for equality and selflessness. It was the last day of the war and both my brother and I were gathering all the forces we could for the final battle in which the fate of the country was to be decided. Now I’m sure you’re wondering where exactly this battle took place right?

Well it took place on the very field it began: Abachanezzar. Abachanezzar was a 200-acre field right next to the Hughesi capitol. At one time that field was the center of beauty of Hughesists with its lush green grass and open visibility to a nice sunset. Many times people would just sit out there and enjoy the sunset while having a picnic or something. It was a very romantic site, but after the war had ensued, there was nothing romantic about this field. Many had lost their lives on that field to this war. As I watched my brother’s troops slaughter my brethren, men who had served with me in many wars,, I realized one thing: this war needed to be over quickly. I had already had Senator Bakara among other Senators who were afraid of my brother’s power were gathering against him on the Senate floors even planning to execute him and take the capitol for themselves. I of course was not going to let this happen for he was my brother. I quickly sent word back to Bakara that my brother was not to be touched or else there would be severe consequences.

Submitting to my will, Bakara canceled the plan and I could now concentrate on what I needed to do to bring back peace and justice to the Hughesi nation: win the Battle of Abachanezzar. All morning, I walked around with a red tunic and gold crown to symbolize that I was soon to be ruler of Hughesi. My brother meanwhile, slid on the exact same thing to symbolize the same thing. Brother’s think alike eh? Anyway, I went into my general’s quarters and gathered up all the things I was going to need for the war. We had set up camp to the south of Abachanezzar while my brother and his men set up in the north. The minutes were passing for it was approaching Armageddon, and both my brother and I were absolutely ecstatic about doing battle with each other. We had competed many times when we were little to see who was the best at doing things. Some of the time I won and some of the time he won, but I was always my father’s favorite and John was mad about that, which sent him to secretly make a deal with the underworld to have my father killed so he could seize power.

Today was a day of competition nonetheless of who was the best general. The winner? Well, the winner gets to rule the Republic of Hughesi and the loser surrenders or dies. It’s simple. It was all or nothing today for John and I and we knew that. That is the reason why the both of us began to prep our troops early. While I was walking through the camps, I had summoned my right hand man Colonel Carney ,or Double C as we liked to call him, to have the men get into battle formation. “Colonel. Have these men fall out and meet me on the battle grounds in fifteen minutes.” I said approaching my old friend. “Yes sir.” He said with a salute. I hopped on a horse and rode off to the battlefield carrying nothing but a pistol and a sword. Meanwhile, John and his armies were mobilizing. “Colonel Shepherd Have these men fall out and meet me on the battle grounds in fifteen minutes” John said to his right hand man Colonel Richard Shepherd. He too got on a horse and rode off. Fifteen minutes later, both of our armies arrived. My men had grabbed their swords, and gold and red uniforms and were assembled behind me perfectly.

John’s men grabbed their swords, and black and red uniforms and were lined up behind him perfectly. Now I’m sure you’re wondering why exactly we didn’t use machine guns or any sort of modern warfare correct? Well, it comes to show that BOTH my brother and me remembered the old ways of doing things back when we were children. When John and I would get into it, father would have us go and have a fencing match just to let us let out some of the built up aggression. Yeah, so we decided that it would be better to settle this with old ways. It was 9:15am and it was the time for one of the greatest battle in Hughesist History to go down. Both my brother and I were ready with our troops; both of us at sixty thousand strong, ready to do battle at any moment. Five minutes passed and it was time. I’m not sure exactly if my brother and I had called for a charge at the EXACT same time, but it was pretty damn close.

"ALL RIGHT MEN! ALL OR NOTHING! CHARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGE!” The two of us shouted at the top of our lungs and began, Armageddon did. Both sides plunged at each other, already shooting and sword fighting. Men were having their arms chopped off and bodies impacted by cold iron bullets, killing them instantly. Carney and Shepherd did battle with each other, sword fighting. Hit after Hit. Swat after swat and neither one of our best men wanting to give up till finally both men fall from stabbing each other. Carney had gotten the advantage over Shepherd, knocking him to the ground, but as he went for the kill, Shepherd pulled out a dagger he had in belt and stabbed him. Carney, as he fell with the sword in his hand, managed to stab Shepherd as well, and now two of the best Hughesist soldiers ever were dead by each other. It was a shame. Meanwhile, as both sides were doing battle, my  brother and I decided to tell our men to stop fighting, because we had an interesting way to end this war. The men stopped their slaughter attempts and my brother and me decided to meet right in the center of where the carnage had begun.

Stepping off our horses onto the blood dyed grass, we approached each other, both of us giving each other this egotistical smirks. “I see you’ve honored our agreement about only swords for the men.” I commented as I stared into my brother’s eyes while soldiers from both sides watched on. “Of course. What kind of brother would I be not to honor my little brother’s agreement?” He sarcastically answered. “Yeah well, I have an idea. Remember the old days big brother? We would always fence when we made each other mad.” I said to him, getting a slight nod and a grin from John. “Well, how about we settle it like that here. There’s no use in good soldiers dying over just a competitive cause. How about me and you versus one another and the loser? Well the loser surrenders or dies.” I proposed him, placing my left hand on my Gladius. “Sounds good to me.” John concurred placing his right hand on his. The men gathered around to watch the epic duel between brother and brother and it began with the two of us drawing at the same time and clashing at the same time, letting out a huge ring as both hints of iron clamped against each other.

Clamp after the clamp we fought, striking at the exact same point and pressure. It was almost as if we knew what the other was doing to do because we matched perfectly with movements. We must’ve been clashing over and over perfectly until John, obviously agitated, decided to charge for my stomach with his sword. Seeing this, I stepped to the side, successfully evading his attack. As he noticed the miss, I grabbed a hold of the back of his neck and placed my Gladius to his back, signaling the end of that duel. “I win.” I pronounced letting out many beads of sweat as I gripped my brother’s neck. “Yeah I guess you do. I surrender.” He conceded, throwing down his Gladius. This brought a smile to my face for a few seconds because the war was over now. No more fighting fellow brethren. Now we could get back to bringing the Republic back to the Empire it once was as brothers. At least that’s what I thought. Apparently John didn’t have the same thing in mind, for as soon as I turned my back and began walking back to my horse to march into Hughesinapolis, he goes for his sidearm and withdraws it but to no avail.

Letting that war instinct that my father had come out of me, I quickly drew my gun, turned around and fired, shooting my own brother in the neck and surprising all the soldiers who were heading back to the capitol with me. Gripping his neck with his left, hand as the blood sprayed out of it, my brother John, the FORMER ruler of Hughesi fell to the ground and instantly died. I walked slowly over to him, clutching my pistol and saw my brother lying there dead; his eyes wide open. I looked down on him dead and thought none but an inch of love for him. He had ordered my father dead and now had tried to kill him, but in a political move, I ordered MY army to give him the proper Hughesi’ burial, which was a holy burning of the body, symbolizing the death of the flesh and the rise of the soul. Once everything was done, I mobilized all armed men on the field and made them follow me into the city to show that civil war was now history in the Republic.

I had one of the men call Senator Bakara and inform him of the news so that I would have a huge crowd when we are to march strong. I only had about twenty five thousand men left after the battle, but still, twenty five thousand and triumph is better than hundred thousand and defeat. I leaped on my black devilish looking horse while my brother’s body was tossed over his former white horse and we marched. Taking about a day, we arrived to a huge parade celebrating the end of the First Hughesi Civil War. Many who had not experienced happiness lately were out with gold and red banners and Hughesist flags chanting ‘Hail Hughes’. Gold and red confetti was thrown while the gold and red balloons brightened up the place. My men and I walked, feeling satisfied that the war was finally over. When we arrived at the Senate building, where Bakara and all of the Senate were standing there with huge grins on their faces, I had my newly appointed Major Ball go and take care of the burials for the men who earned their respect: including my brother, while I alone climbed the Senate steps, until I was able to see the entire crowd.

With the Senate behind me, I began to give a speech. “FELLOW HUGHESISTS! I, DONALD HUGHES THE SECOND, HAVE COME TO HUGHESINAPOLIS TODAY TO ANNOUNCE THAT THIS WAR,THAT HAS DEPRIVED MANY YOUNG MEN OF THEIR LIVES, IS OVER!” I began getting a HUGE ovation from the crowd. “YES THIS BLOODSHED BETWEEN BROTHERS AND BROTHERS ENDS TODAY! IT IS ABOUT TIME THAT HUGHESI GET BACK TO RESTORING WHICH WAS ONCE A GREAT EMPIRE!” I continued, getting another huge ovation. “YES MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS. WE MUST UNITE UNDER ONE BANNER, ONE SYMBOL OF HOPE; A SYMBOL THAT CAN REPRESENT ALL OF US AS ONE! THAT SYMBOL IS THAT OF MY FATHER. MY FATHER WAS A GREAT MAN WHO DID MANY GREAT THINGS TO MAKE YOUR LIVES MUCH BETTER! HE IS DEAD NOW, BUT HE LIVES ON THROUGH MEEEEEEEEEEEE!” I pronounced, raising my hands with pride, getting more cheers and Hail Hughes Chants from the audience. “WITH YOUR HELP AND SUPPORT, I CAN HELP MAKE THIS REPUBLIC WHAT IT ONCE WAS: AN EMPIRE! STRENGTH THROUGH UNITY! UNITY THROUGH TOLERANCE!” I concluded, raising only my right hand at an angle and the crowd went crazy with Hail Hughes chants. With the people now behind me, I could attend to other matters, I shook hands with each of the senators who had supported me during the cause and took a seat in the chair that my brother now sat in. It was time for a change in Hughesi and I was the perfect man to do it. How did I do it precisely? I guess you’ll have to wait until next time for that.
