Restoring Order in the Hughesist Government

Restoring Order in Government

Alright, so I had established myself as Emperor of the Hughesist Empire. Well at least to the people. The Senate, on the other hand, was a different story. After me and a segment of my new army had marched right into the Capitol with my brother’s dead carcass lying on a white horse, Senator Bakara, as well as the other Senators, appearing happy in public, were very upset at my actions of bringing the troops into the city. I walked in there with my gold and red tunic with a gold crown and took my place on the seat of Authoritative Council where my brother had sat before me. The Senators took their places in their seats and immediately, my war friend, Senator Bakara, stood up and began speaking. “Emperor…” He started, lowering his head a bit. “First, I must tell you how proud the Senate is that you have defeated your brother and restored your father’s legacy to Hughesi, BUT, you did it and then walked into the city with army of twenty five thousand. Now, I can speak for my brothers, when I say that we are a bit nervous, considering how much of a tyrant your brother was!” He exclaimed, before being interrupted by me.

“Now now Senator Bakara. You and I saw eye to eye when the war was happening, now what’s happened? Listen, the people support me as tribune. Now, if you want democracy, there it is for you, right on a silver platter. Now, believe me, I know that all of you think, just because I sit in that chair that I’m going to start inflicting terror and undermining your opinions, well I’m not. Did my father EVER do such things? No! He was a man of the people as I am today. I said I would rearrange things in this country and that’s exactly what I’m going to do. First, I propose a thorough reform of the courts, so that the people can be properly represented.” I began as I walked the Senate Floor, getting an ovation from all the old and crusty Senators. I raised my right hand signaling that I wasn’t finished yet, than kept on talking. “Second, I propose that the office of Dictator or King be outlawed so that the Senate may still have power to represent the people.” I continued, getting yet another ovation.

Raising my right hand again, the room got quiet, and I continued. “Third, I propose that the Senate elect me to be Authoritative Council so as long as my decisions are fair and are those of which that will represent the people the best.” I finished as I walked back to my seat. Once I took a seat, a HUGE ovation began, resulting in every Senator besides Bakara standing up and clapping their hands. When the ovation had ended, Bakara stood up once more and continued address those issues he felt were important to the ‘people’. “Ah yes Gaius Hughes. We, in the Senate, do appreciate your modesty, which is why all of those requests have been passed. I would like to ask who you plan to nominate as your assistant. Someone to handle the daily dealings of the Senate if you’re to fall sick or something.” He spoke, bringing upon his face a slight smirk. Bakara was always an ambitious man. Maybe he was a bit too ambitious, but I didn’t let him know what I really thought of such a proposal. Instead I played into his plan. “Well, how about you Senator? You’re a reasonable man right? You are Deputy Authoritative Council(DAC) from this moment on. Now I must attend to other matters, so DAC you can handle the proceedings from here, but remember, always represent the people.” I finished up, before rushing out of the Senate halls.

Little did Mr. Bakara know that I had ordered his death right after I got out of the building. I had called one of my best men to have some bum kill him while he’s walking to his car. It was supposed to look like a robbery. Later that night, the bum was waiting around the corner in an alley close to the Senator’s car, just waiting for the moment in which he could kill a rich man. 8:30 pm: the Senator’s last night. He walked out of the gates, conversing with a few of the other Senators, before heading to his car. While he was walking through the alley, paranoid as can be, the bum approached him with a revolver. “GIVE ME THE MONEY!” He yelled out aiming the revolver right at Bakara’s head. “Alright Alright!” Bakara yelled out as he flinched. He handed the bum his wallet, and BAM, a swift pull of the trigger and Bakara was dead. The blood from his head spewed out onto the alleyway and the Senator dropping. Feeling satisfied, the bum dropped the gun and ran off into the night with the wallet. After the assassination, the bum called my associate and told him of the news, then my associate told the news to me while I was resting in my palace. Once he told me of the news, I hung up with a smile on my face and went to sleep. It was to be a long day tomorrow.
