Since Dick Cheney cursed out a congressman on the floor, maybe?

have a society where too many people never get to fulfill that
extraordinary potential. My view – the liberal view – is that
government’s job is to help them to do it. Not to tell people how to
live their lives. But to make their choices possible, to release their
potential, no matter who they are. The way to do that is to take power away from those who hoard it. To challenge vested interests. To break down privilege. To clear out the bottlenecks in our society that block opportunity and block progress. And so give everyone a chance to live the life they want." - Nick Clegg, Leader of the Liberal Democrats and Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdom

Why do Americans assume that America is the be all and end all of things?

Isn't that an unfair generalisation?

How many times do you have to encounter a generalization before it becomes a fair one?

Are any generalisations fair? Shouldn't individual differences always be taken into account?

When you spoke of "Americans assum[ing] that America is the be all and end all of things", did you refer to my reference to Dick Cheney?

Did I? And isn't fair just another relative term Larry?

Well, everything is relative to some degree, isn't it? But if you're going to start thinking like that, what's the point of anything?

If we understand that all judgments come from perspective then isn't it easier to sympathize with some one and see where they're coming from? Wouldn't it make it easier to find a choice which seems fair to all parties involved?

Ah, but is it so easy to form a compromise? Aren't there always going to be people who disagree with any decision?

Is there any such thing as a perfect solution?
