for any other person who can't do whatever they want these laws wouldn't apply to them either because the plebe can't do them anyway.

Next time you see someone breaking the law, why not bring it before the Ecclesia? It can do anything it wants, so long as the people vote to do it.

No illegal shit on our forum.
No harassing other members.
No stalking/phishing other members.
No racism, no sexism, no homophobia, etc.
THIS.  COMMENT.  MAKE THIS THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE LAW.

But in all seriousness, please stop arguing, everyone.  I personally do not agree with this bill, but I will not bring myself to attack anyone personally.  Like St Oz said, we need to understand that democracy both requires citizens to participate in and discuss government, but also forbids criticizing without construct.  I say we just forget about this argument and move on, while still learning from our mistakes.

I would like to strongly encourage taking any discussion, productive or otherwise, about the conduct of individuals to another thread.

Let's consider this the last word in the thread on the subject (so don't bother with any snide parting remarks) and continue discussing the Criminal Justice Act as intended.

With regard to the last two posts: I don't think we have an act quite ready to be put to a vote yet.

Now, in regard to the legislation:

I wasn't aware that we had any provision allowing the Ecclesia to just vote to remove citizenship for any reason. If the Ecclesia can vote to remove citizenship for any reason, then a list of crimes and penalties isn't necessary -- we can just look at issues together on a case by case basis and make a decision. I'm actually fine with that way of doing things, I was just under the impression that we didn't have any way of addressing someone doing things the community isn't okay with, like treason and spying.

I've never been a fan of judiciaries in NationStates anyway, so to be honest I would prefer a simpler method. I'm fine with this legislation not moving forward.

I'm in favor of the the ad hoc approach, at least while our active community is small. On the other hand, I like the idea of having statutes of limitations and sentencing guidelines for major crimes in law somewhere, and find it hard to imagine an act with such things in it that doesn't provide a list of specific crimes. Perhaps we should discuss this, and at the very least we will have produced a set of guidelines for the Ecclesia to consider should the need arise for them.

I move for a vote on this bill.
All of this is already covered by the forum's terms of use, so for these no law is strictly necessary.

yes, ad hoc.  :wb:
"while our active community is small" I've heard many arguments like "now that we're not small we have to transfer power from Ecclesia towards a semi-presidential" blablabla. Like they say, size doesn't matter, do we really need something as complex as previous governments? Absolutely not imo.
Regarding the list/guidelines, I think you or others have discussed this in the past, I'm ok with discussing that specifically, it'd be awkward for the Ecclesia to come up with a punishment everyone agrees without it being pushed forward by the offended anyway.

I move for a vote on this bill.

It legally needs to be considered for at least three days first and, law aside, we shouldn't be moving for a vote on something as important as a criminal code less than 24 hours after a draft was posted. Nobody, including me, is even certain we want to have a vote on this.

This is why I support a list of crimes spelled out in legislation, should we need a Citizen-Mediator it would be nice if they had legal precedent to work with. Rather than going contrary to being negative to an adhoc legal function, I believe it is a boon for such.

I am against the Criminal Justice Act.  Just make it case by case
