Novrith Conference, Fall 1971
Glassworkers' Hall in Novrith, the site of the conference Little late for this thread, but better late than never. In the spring of 1971, the new Sedera (
doge) Fredrika Quarrovth Tar-Ilium, seeking to continue her disgraced husband's economic policies, invited several nations to a conference in Novrith, the largest city in Myroria and the center of the nation's culture.
The purpose of the conference was two-fold: to create a free trade zone in the north of the Cefnor Basin and to showcase a 1970s Myroria to the world. In 1971, Myroria was a nation still reeling from the impeachment of their doge for a wide array of felonies. The new doge, his wife, is desperate to improve the reputation of her nation abroad and so decides that an international conference will help show Myroria’s wealth and advancement - technologically if not socially. Novrith, the largest and wealthiest city in the nation, would serve as the conference’s location - far away from the poor, rural interior, it is a bustling city with a large working waterfront and open access to education and healthcare.
The conference started in mid-September; the second Monday of the month. The Saturday before, the Sedera herself organized a cocktail party for the foreign dignitaries as well as VIPs from the area - celebrities and whatnot. This shall serve as a place for the writers to introduce their characters, and will conclude with a speech from the Sedera wishing the conference luck, essentially. While an observer, she will not be leading the conference.
After this segment, we will transition to the conference itself. Up for discussion will be the status of trade in the north of the Basin. Each nation should voice plans, desires, needs, and concerns and hopefully we can come to an agreement. I will not be waiting a particularly long time for replies - if after everyone else has replied we are still waiting on a few stragglers I will simply assume that nothing needed to be said and will move on.
I hope this piece is enjoyable to everyone who is participating and everyone who is reading! If anyone has any concerns or comments, please feel free to post them here.
