Ëarvedui Ruisigusugoriar Eluvatumi
« on: December 24, 2014, 07:13:03 PM »

(Charles XII)
Ëarvedui Ruisigusugoriar Eluvatumi

I'd like to actually RP out the life of the Last King.

Here's the plan so far, ideas welcome:

Quote from: From the Timeline
1725 CE: The War of the Last Eluvataran Succession (The Last King victorious)
1730 CE: Eluvataran Industrial Revolution begins (slowly).
1745 CE: Ëarvedui Ruisigusugoriar Eluvatumi  (The Last King) leaves the Note of Absence (and absents himself by leaving)

Basically, Ëarvedui is a revolutionary figure. He is raised by a wealthy burgher family after the death or disability of his parents, while his Uncle takes charge of affairs of state. As he approaches his majority, there is an attempt on his life (?) and he goes to Romenna where he takes charge as his Uncle flees. Taking control of the Royal Army and massively expanding it, he marches against his Uncle and crushes him.

Basing his power on the support of the Non (the non-dunedain), Ëarvedui shifts the balance of power in the State in favor of the Hall of the Non, and in the economy as well. The removal of various lingering feudal restrictions, strengthening of the judicial system, and changes to the tax system lead to the beginning of the Industrial Revolution in Eluvatar.

To Ëarvedui all this just means he has more soldiers with better weapons to work with, which he uses with little hesitation. The Charles XII quote "I have resolved never to start an unjust war but never to end a legitimate one except by defeating my enemies," would be entirely in character for Ëarvedui, who ends up fighting the Finns, Benns, Belaedinosi, and Ozians.

He sweeps through Bennland and Finnland, adding them to the Royal Confederacy, and crushing an army from the Baan.

He invades the east, defeating Ozian armies and 'liberating' Myroria.

Finally, with the Ozians neutralized and Benns and Finns incorporated into his growing empire, he launches an invasion of the several Baan. It's for this expedition that he leaves the Note of Absence for the governance of Eluvatar while he's out on campaign.

Careful to avoid getting completely frozen in winter, he nevertheless finds his army cut off from supply or retreat by land, and following a chaotic battle he was unable to command is forced to retreat by sea to Myroria.

While he effectively rules Myroria for a time personally, in 1745 he judges he needs to return to Eluvatar to mount a followup invasion of the Baan. His ship never reaches Romenna.

Since the Last King is going to be in Myroria for a while I suppose I should introduce the first Sedera/doge of Myroria.

Resdayn VI Thimalveseth/Resdayn I

Born in 1678 into an Ivorheart-based House of moderate renown, Resdayn was the sixth in a series of entirely unremarkable men to lead House Thimalveseth.

At the time of his birth, the Myrorian homeland had been a part of a great Ozian state for nearly two hundred years. Once split between the Pelagian Empire and the Ozian theocracy, it had been absorbed by the latter upon the fall of the former in the early 1500s. The percived Myrorian propensity for clannishness and insular thinking, and the Myrorian religious faith - often involving the dissection and display of dead bodies - led to distrust and hatred of the "Maeror" among the Ozians to the south. Ozian matriarchy, pogroms, and Gaeanism led to hatred of the "devils" among the Myrorians to the north.

By the time of the Eluvataran-Ozian war at the beginning of the 18th century, conditions were ripe in Maeror Province for a general rebellion. The rebellion came when news spread of Ozian defeats to the Eluvataran king, giving instigators in Traval, Pelagis, and Ivorheart the opportunity to stir up an angry populace and goad them to attack the Ozian devils. Resdayn VI Thimalveseth was one of many patriarchs to pledge their House to fight under two common banners - the burgundy and white of Myroria, and the cyan and lavender of the Eluvataran king.

In 1733, after years of war, Myroria gained her independence, mainly to act as a Poland-style buffer between Ozia and Eluvatar. The new state styled itself the "Most Serene Republic", but in reality it functioned as an elective monarchy, with the powerful men from the various Houses in Myroria electing one among themselves to serve for life as the country's head of state - tightly controlled, of course, by the aristocracy.

After eleven ballots, the Council of the Houses elected Resdayn VI Thimalveseth as the Sedera, or doge, of Myroria. The justification for his election rested mainly on his acceptability to the Eluvataran king and his perceived pliability among the Myrorian nobles. As the Last King departed for his campaign in Rykkovaa, he left satisfied that his new ally was in capable, if malleable, hands.

Resdayn VI Thimalveseth proved to be anything but malleable. Ignoring pleas from the Council that he invest himself with a crown and royal style, he insisted he be referred to as "Serene Highness" and wore a cap based on a Pelagian design popular during the days of the Pelagian Republic. He dissassociated himself from affiliation with any House, even the one he was born into, announcing himself a total independent. His attempt to concentrate power in his hands at the expense of the aristocracy made him many enemies, but even as the Last King returned from a disastrous campaign in Rykkovaa to see the unrest among the Myrorian nobility , Resdayn kept Eluvatumi as an ally. In return Resdayn deferred almost completely to the foreign king.

Some time later, after news spread that the King's ship had disappeared, Resdayn VI Thimalveseth died of a sudden stomach ailment. Within weeks, the three largest Houses - Indiotrovth, Vedranoseth, and Demnevanith - concentrated power among themselves. Styling themselves "Great Houses", they used their sheer numbers on the Council to expel any family that did not swear fealty to one of them.

The new "Council of Great Houses" elected Revyn Demnevanith Sedera. Revyn took the name "Resdayn II", in effect giving his predecessor, who always railed against the practice of taking regnal names, the name " Resdayn I". Next, Resdayn II invested himself with a crown and the style of "Your Majesty" - making himself equal in prestige to the dearly departed King of Eluvatar.
"I assure you -- I will be quite content to be a mere mortal again, dedicated to my own amusements."

In 1725, the three hundred year rule of the Iseltov Direship was crumbling. The golden age of Ozian exploration and trade ended more than a century ago. The Iseltov Isverin (Isverin=Ruling Dire) over-expanded its reach and tried to maintain a hold in Jutensa, Myroria, and her other holdings all over Taijitu. The other direships grew restless with the Iseltovs as trade became more competitive with the other powers. The Iseltov's Isverin is mothballing as the flow of money is dried up, and more minor conflicts between Ozian direships arise to seize more of the crumbling empire. Meanwhile, mainland Ozia which has been devoid of Direship influence are pressuring the Listener to reinstate the traditional Republic. The Listener is old and sickly, and there's much anxiety about a new Listener possibly reinstating the old Republic rather than the direship, as the Iseltov influence over the Theocracy is slipping.

Then it happens, a war against an old rival, Eluvatar. Ozia needs a good war. Something to unify the dires and nation, but the Iseltovs are too restless and too desperate to revive their influence.

Isverin Alime Demir Iseltov
Born in 1692, the eldest of five later brothers and sisters, Alime assumed power five years before the war after her mother Eliaen died of syphilis. Alime concentrates most of the family fortune on the sciences and arts, pouring a lot of money into Myrorian musicians to come to La Sava, and sponsoring scientists and mathematicians like Dr. Kuli. Believing the ferocity of her mother wasn't working to unify the country, she chose to "create Gaeanist culture". However she still maintains a very intricate system of secret police which targets Resdayn VI and Dire Manisolvet Parpaski during her reign.
