Ran grinned at Rethian, bemused by the elf's attempt. "That wasn't actually that bad, though it is not rolled. Still, to be absolutely fair, I am quite sure that I am butchering your name completely. A mutual destruction of the appellations. I suppose that it is the fairest possible resolution to the conflict.

"I believe you are correct.  Conflict or no, that is to say, though you made a fair effort at mine and bested me at my best.  Indeed, you fared better with fair than most do on the first attempt."

Ran nodded once or twice to this statement thoughtfully, before suddenly bursting back with life and energy. "I am Ran, you are Rethian and we both know this now quite well, so I would say that introductions are quite complete. Now, onto the business with which I was dealing with previously. Which was..." he raised the pen he was holding in one hand to his mouth and chewed on the end while his eyes drifted upward, his memory working to recapture the last few minutes of his activity. "I was going to do something now, I just cannot..." his eyes fell and he stopped in mid-speech and pulled the pen away from his gnawing teeth, held it before himself and examined it.

"I shouldn't be chewing on this," he concluded. Turning to Rethian he noted "This isn't just any ordinary pen, it's quite something. Scatter-brained me loses his thoughts and next thing I know I am destroying the thing with my teeth...wait a moment..." he paused, rolling his eyes around in their sockets, and then finally exclaimed "Right! I was going to write something with this pen, that is the only logical reason why I could have it out and about. Now, Rethian," he said, his hand now dragging across the pages of the journal from top to bottom in a series of fluid motions, "just what is it that brings you here, if I am not being too intrusive. Also, may I illustrate your person?"

"You certainly may illustrate me, if it pleases you, though I would caution you to consider the fact that you may, indeed, have brought out the pen expressly for the purpose of chewing, despite your current misgivings about such an endeavor.  An object like the one you hold would be quite handy for chewing and you may have temporarily reconsidered it's prime usage.  One must keep one's teeth both clean and sharp, don't you agree?"  Without waiting for a response from the perplexed and perplexing Vaan, Rethian continued.  "I have come here on a thus-far solitary sort of a search, you might say.  Decades ago I found a bit of lore and became rather fascinated by it; years of study gone, you see, so I mustn't let it go now, I'm sure you understand... where was I?  Oh yes, it, 'it' being my studies, of course, brought me here, to this desert, to seek the answer to the questions of my current purpose in life, that being my search for the place described in the lore I stumbled upon, that being the bit I mentioned earlier."

Rethian paused his rambling "dialog" for a moment, walking over the the Vaan's side to study the progress of what he hoped was to be a fashionable likeness.

Rethian looked up and acknowledged the strange man that had walked over to the two of them during their conversation.  "Hello."

"Oh..." Ran blinked, slightly stupefied and dumbfounded. As often as he would himself would go on such long winded speeches making little to no sense when taken as a whole, to the dismay of those talking to him, he could not recall someone ever having done the same for him. The sudden reversal of events had caught him off guard and left him momentarily disorientated. Shortly though however he returned to the persistent good spirit and nature which seemed his naturally inclination, puzzlement replaced by the standard marginally silly grin of his. Seeing that Rethian had walked over, clearly attempting to see what was on the paper. Ran happily obliged, revealing columns of an odd,  vertical cursive script besides very basic elements of Rethian's form captures in several quick strokes of the pen. As Rethian looked, he spoke.

"There are other ways to keep one's teeth clean and sharp, though the real trouble is keeping one's coat clean and neat, though," he said as he looked Rethian up and down, "That is something that I doubt you have experience with. Especially here. I do not think I would be lying to say that I am carrying a sack's worth of sand trapped in it all." At this point Rune interjected himself into the conversation, before Ran had time to comment on the purpose of life. As he asked Ran's identity from Rethian, Ran decided to answer for himself.

"I am Ran Har Gai, pleased to meet another new person and face. Who might my new friend be then?" he said, with the same smile and wag of the tail with which he had greeted Rethian.

"The names Rune, i come from the Hilly plains region, of the Iron Raven tribe."

Rune looked at Ran Har Gai, noticed that he had a tail

Woah, but seems like a nice guy...

"So, where are you from?"

Rune slowy moved his hand away from his sword at his belt and at his side, hoping that Ran Har Gai didnt see that.

OOC: Heheh, he gots far more than a tail. Did you read his description?

IC: "Then good day and best wishes to you Rune of the Iron Raven Tribe. I am trying to remember if I've heard of that lot, or of the name at all. That would probably be some time, so for the sake of you convenience, that can occur later. Now, to answer your question, I," said Ran, adopting a tone of mock seriousness, "am not from here, but instead from there."

"Oh, so you must must be from the place that is beyond here, but closer then father from there?"

Rune then reached into his hand and pulled out a coin, which he gave to Ran Har Gai.

"Here, this might help  you rember the Iron Raven's"

"Well, to be completely direct and clear," replied Ran as he took the coin in his hand, or paw, whichever was the better word with which to describe it, "the certain there from which I come from is a village by the name of Ssodzōqȫȫÿo." He rattled of the final collection of impossible syllables as he examined the coin that he now held. "So... are you honestly attempting to bribe me in to recalling a memory which I may not even have to begin with?"

Rethian looked askance at the man before them for a moment before replying, and proceeded to do so with as much politeness as he could muster.  "Well, that sounds pleasant.  Could you perhaps repeat the name of your town, Ran?  I absolutely must give it a try."  Eagerness lit up his green eyes at the thought of a new language and new ways to manipulate the sound of his voice.  Rethian had always loved languages.  In fact, he'd loved learning anything new, foreign, or strange from the day of his birth, always voracious in his pursuit of knowledge and discovery.

Ran lifted an eyebrow and looked down at Rune following his statement, slightly lost and also curious as to whether the man would have the reach to properly place any sort of sword to his neck. He concluded that yes, he would, even if it was slightly awkward. Still, the man was all the same odd and slightly troubling. Just in case, Ran decided to add a verbal footnote to his raised eyebrow.

"I may not be armed, but that doesn't mean I'm not dangerous. I've traveled the lands this long not on my wits alone but also with a well placed fist when need be," he concluded with an completely inappropriate cheery tone.

"And," he said, now answering Rethian, secretly flattered that he had taken such an interest in him and his personal history. "The name of the town would be Ssozdōqȫȫÿo, wonderous little place." He spoke the name of the village slowly and deliberately, curious as to what Rethian would attempt with this new information.
