The Kingdom of Damisar
« on: May 12, 2007, 01:56:34 PM »
Full name: The Kingdom of Damisar

Head of State: A combination of a King (Al'Amat I) and a Prime Minister (Akrat el Abbosa.) The Prime Minister maintains the daily affairs of the nation, but the King has some emergency veto powers. The King used to be the Sultan, and his conditions still resemble that of a Sultan, but he changed his title in order to eliminate the Islamic connotation.
Capital city: Mosal
Major cities: Danria, Kilab, Submei

Official language: Damo (slight resemblance to Arabic)
Alternate languages: English

National Animal: The Kestrel

Military: The main bulk of the Damisar army is composed of AK47 infantry and a smaller army of tanks, helicopters, rocket artillery and battleships. It has no nuclear weapons but has a supply of uranium and plans have been put into place to develop a nuclear program in the far future. Damisar's elite fighting force is the Royal Guard. These are individuals specially chosen from birth and trained in combat constantly. Their combat uniform is the traditional robes of the old Damisaran empire (with body armour underneath) and they provide the last line of defence for Mosal and other cities in case of invasion. The Kingdom also has a tiny number of ex-soviet jet fighters.

Sport: The national sport of Damisar is football (soccer) and their best player is Osman Mahmud, a striker. The Prime League (or Premiership) is dominated by Kestrel Mosal, for who Osman Mahmud scores almost weekly.

History: Hundreds of years ago, the nation that is now known as Damisar was a vast, Arabic empire known as the Damas. Started by tribes in what is today known as Submei, they waged a constant campaign of conquest against their neighbors. The Empire flourished, importing resources and luxuries from all over, and enjoying economic strength that was the envy of most.

The Damas Empire was doomed to fail, however, as they refused to move with the times. They became antequated, primitive and weak. Soon, the empire crumbled, and the land lay flat for an enormous period of time.

It then came to pass that Al'Amat, a young man from a working class family a few miles away in a former Damas territory, encountered the ruins of Mariik (now Mosal) the capital where the Damas launched their world conquests. He spent the next twenty years amassing an enormous amount of wealth through trade and business. When he was rich, he returned to the ruins and set about restoring them. He decided that he would start a new empire on this sacred ground, an empire in homage to the Damas but individual. He renamed his new country Damisar, and established himself as Sultan. But rather than having divine right, he decided that the best route to promenance was democracy, and set up a parliament.

Society and culture: While there is an emphasis on law and justice in Damisar, the citizens are considered free and freedom of speech is happily practiced. The favourite activity of the main population in the evenings is to visit the nation's pubs, where the national drink Necatia (a sweet, very highly alcoholic drink) and a selection of wines, beers and spirits. Education and healthcare are free, and each city has at least one concert hall where all types of music are played. Fatla, a fast-paced music style that borrows heavily from Banghra, is one of the country's main cultural exports.

Class and poverty: Being formerly working class himself, the Sultan established Damisar to be as little class-obsessed and snobby as possible. Due to free market policies, some in society are far richer than others, but a generous welfare system ensures that even the lowest ends of society are kept afloat. To enforce the ideal of no class system, there are no official titles such as lord and lady. The ancient custom of debt slavery has been abolished, but unfortunately it still goes on in secret.

Terrain: While Damisar is essentially a desert country, it does have a mix of climates. 70% of the nation is extremely temperate, with desert cities and rivers. There is also, however, a slightly cooler region in the north, covered in grass and rainy. The grassy northern region is home to Damisar's largest lake.

OOC: I had a quick look around the forums and I realise it's better RP to actually state the size of your army. If it's too big for a new nation, please let me know

280,000 General Infantry
1200 Mosal Class Mechanised infantry
150 Rocket Artillery
25 Odessa Prime (submarines)
340 Kilab Gulf battleships
3500 Attack Jeeps
6 Stalingrad Jet Fighters
10,000 Royal Guard
