The Debate Rages! Taijitan or Taijituan?

In the interests of linguistics, and since this is "Information", I thought it would be good to try to settle this here... :D

It's not really my place to say, but I like Taiji better than either of them.  It's a little more natural-sounding.

Prag has proclaimed the correct spelling to be Taijituan, and as Prag has been here since the dawn of time and tends to be right on that sort of thing, I've sort of adopted it as the 'right' one.  Personally, I like Taiji because it's a little friendlier and nice-sounding.  Okay, okay, and it's shorter to type.  Shoot me, I'm a little lazy that way.

In our IRC room, unidentified people are dubbed "A Taiji" by default.

Well, I've since changed my opinion that both are acceptable adjectives. Research indicates that on the forum Taijituan and Taijitan occur at a 2:1 ratio to each other. Taiji also exists as a slangy term for a Taijitan person.

Taijituan. It sort of counters the flowing orientalism of this region, which I dislike. Why couldn't we be called "Georgetown" or "Williamsburg" or some other Georgian name?

There is not 'Both are correct' option!

I still think Both should be correct, what do you care if it's Taijitan or Taijituan, it's the same! or Taiji...

I didn't vote, because it honestly doesn't matter to me.  I'm from a hometown that -never- gets spelled correctly by anyone living outside it.  So, eh.   ;)

Well I'm new here but from "polish language view" both forms are correct and are ok (for me and least). Where do you live? In Taijitan. And whats that ? Taijituan ship.

But, if both are correct, how can we have big honking arguments over it?  ;)

I was of the opinion that Taijituan describes something of or from Taijitu. Taijitan, not so much. For anything else, I just say Taijitu. Meh, laziness.
Music is the key to the heart.

"Once art to me was something far off, unfathomable and unreachable... But I discovered that the real essence of art was not something high up and far off, it was right inside my ordinary daily self. If a musician wants to be a fine artist, he must first become a finer person. A work of art is the expression of a person's whole personality, sensibility, and ability." -Shinichi Suzuki
