<ooc>Consider this an intro to what's going on I guess. Still looking for people to rp some rebel groups before things really get underway.<ooc>

It was a blistering hot evening in Herzliya, as usual. Hošea had closed up shop for the day, and had went up to the roof to sit back and relax. He sat down in his chair and faced west to watch the sunset while drinking a large glass of hot water.

From his roof, across the street and to the left he could see government workers preparing to turn a building into the Herzliya voting center. So much for enjoying the sunset, Hošea thought to himself. One of the workers was planting a sign out front next to the street that said:
Quote
General Notice: Elections will continue as planned. Do not allow these vagabonds deter you from voting, there is nothing to fear from them.

Elections were coming up at the end of the week. President Moshegur Amirov has vowed to run for a third term, meaning he will probably win. The Tzomet party some how always wins. Past presidents haven't been so bad, but it's widely viewed that some kind of cheating has been going on. Moshegur virtually proved it for everyone. In his first term, he had driven the country into an economic hell hole. Before Moshegur, Hošea could afford to get a cold glass of water. He could afford to ship his wares cross-country before Moshegur, but now he can't afford the gas, despite Hadera floating on top a giant oil reserve.

When Moshegur won his second term is when things began heating up. Several...

*BOOM* *PRAPRAPRAPRAP*

While Hošea was reflecting upon all of this, he saw flames and smoke rising in the air and heard a huge explosion. Small bits of concrete began raining down on him. Across the street, he saw the whole front of the voting center had collapsed and flames were billowing out from where the front door once was. People who were walking the street began to run away from the carnage as a dozen masked men were running towards the building carrying AK-47's. They opened fire on and slaughtered the government workers on the site. When the gunmen were sure atleast most of them were dead or dying, they each took off down the ally going around Hošea's shop and home.

"Dammit, I knew they would do this!" Hošea in a fit of anger threw his glass across the roof. He knew who the gunmen were, everyone there would have known. The day Moshegur declared that elections would go as planned, the rebel organization Tikkun Olam declared that the election centers would be targeted... as well as anyone voting in them. Just a few minutes later, soldiers and police began gradually arriving on the scene. The area would be roadblocked by army soldiers for some time to come, thereby destroying what little business Hošea still had.

When Moshegur won his second term is when things began heating up. Several rebel groups sprang up, Tikkun Olam being one of the first. They control large swaths of the Haifa river valley, and engage security forces, as well as other rebel groups with differing idiologies, on a daily basis. This attack on the Herzliya voting center wasn't anything out of the ordinary.

The next day, Moshegur would order the army into the streets to protect the voting centers and the citizens voting in them.

The bombed-out old voting center could not be repaired in time, but maybe that was for the best. The new one was located in a clearing on the northern edge of the city, away from residential areas. It would be easier to defend against Tikkun Olam, whom they knew would attack, and would pose fewer civilian casualties.

Turáis Abir Gavriel and Mordecai Avsalom, Fire Team E of Raam Brigade, are among the 100 or so soldiers deployed to defend the Herzliya voting center.

Fire Team E’s position was on the outer perimeter of the clearing along side the main path to the building. Abir was sitting in his position with his back against the sandbags, his AK in his lap, and facing south towards town. Mordecai was just returning from the voting center building. Voter turnout was incredibly low, and he was able to get permission to vote.

“Hey man, who’d you vote for?” Abir called out.

“Who do you think?” Mordecai replied. As soon as he got back and sat down, he asked, “Can you tell me the name of one single candidate other than Moshegur?”

“Are you saying that his name was the only one on the ballot!?”

Mordecai shook his head. “No, there were other names. I’ve never heard of a single one though.”

“Oh, I see…” Adir said grimly. “So you voted for Moshegur, then?”

“Unfortunately so…”

They grew silent for a few moments. Suddenly, an explosion rocked the earth. “Be ready, men!” the commander yelled out.

Still silent, Fire Team E readied their rifles and gazed south at the city, seeing a plume of black smoke rise into the cloudless sky. Only a few seconds after the explosion could the pops and praps of gunfire be heard.

Mordecai could feel his legs slowly turning to jelly with each passing second. “He-hey Abir, do you think they are trying to fight their way to the voting center?”

“Of course they are,” Abire replied sternly.

The gunfire continued. So far, not a single rebel has been seen close to the center. Several minutes passed, and as slowly creped closer, they began to hear a new sound. A low, rumbling sound, that was getting louder. Soon, the source was apparent; a large dump truck rounded the corner of a building, and began barreling down the road towards the voting center.

Two MG’s on top of the center opened up on the truck, signaling for the rest of the soldiers in the clearing to do so as well. The windshield was shot out and the driver had to be dead, but the truck was still coming.

As it flew past Fire Team E’s position, Abir yelled, “Mordecai, get down!”

“Huh? Oomph!” Abir tackled Mordecai just before the dump truck struck the center and went up in a huge ball of flames.

“Oh my God…” Abir looked up to find nearly the entire building was gone. “That thing must have been loaded to the brim with explosives!”

There was another explosion, this one the other way, back in town. Abir began to turn towards it when he saw bodies scattered on the ground. The poor guys were either too close or simply didn’t get down in time, or both. Abir and Mordecai appeared to be the only two left alive.

“Mordecai, get up! We have to get out of here!”

“Wh-what? Wh-why?” he stammered.

“Look around, we’re the only ones left! And the gunfire keeps getting closer. I think they’re losing, which means we have to get out of here!”

Mordecai got up, and followed Abir. They were running north to Ashdod Army Base.

Avraham drove through what seemed to be a sea of dirt, alone with his thoughts. He always seemed to become angry when that happened. The anger did not subside once he reached his destination, in fact, it seemed to increase. He looked down on the voting center, and only saw a farce. He knew there was no chance of dislodging Moshegur Amirov from power, and the troops deployed in the streets served only to protect the government, not the people.

Soon, a second truck drove to the hill he was on, and several armed men got out. Avraham approached the driver, "You're late."

"We're here aren't we?" The driver shot back, "Did you bring them?"

"Of course." Avraham said as he moved to the back of his truck. "Help me unload here."

For a few more moments Avraham and the other Masorati militiamen set up mortars, all of them smuggled out of the friendly Nuekallayan Republic of Bomya. Soon enough they were ready, and just in time. Voters had started arriving.

Within minutes the voting center was a pile of rubble, and the Masorati were gone.

Attacks like those in Herzliya by Tikkun Olam and in Sderot by Masorati continued throughout election week.

"President, sir, our forces are spread too thin," said the Sar Habitakhon, Yitzhak Lavon. "The death toll nation-wide totaled nearly 1,000. That is, by far, the highest weekly death toll we have experienced since the conflict began... Sir?"

Moshegur sat expressionless, staring out the window of the President's Office at a passing Army truck. "Is that all you have for me?" he asked monotonously.

"Well no, that's not all. We have been almost 100% sure that Masorati rebels have had a presence in Nuekallaya." Yitzhak takes a folder containing images of Masorati weapons and lays them on Moshegur's desk, but he doesn't seem to notice. "This week, we have confirmed that the majority of their weapons come from Nuekallaya. I suggest that you make a request to the Nuekallayans for them to shut down the border to prevent the arms flow."

"I'll get Ilan right on that." Moshegur said indifferently.

With that, Yitzhak leaves without saying a word.

Quote
TO: Nuekallaya
FROM: Sar HaHutz Ilan Kaniel, Haderan Foreign Advisor.

As you may know, we have long suspected that Haderan rebels have been hiding out in the Nuekallayan Republic of Bomya. We can safely say that we are sure weapons are flowing across the border into rebel hands. Nearly all weapons one rebel group, who's turf resides along the Nuekallayan/Haderan border, and Nuekallayan-made.

Hadera humbly requests that Nuekallaya shuts down the border to prevent the flow of arms into our nation.

Two days ago...

Sergeant Dayan didn't like his orders, but he had to follow them anyway. Like most citizens of Bomya, he had a great deal of sympathy for Masorati, and he even had family in Hadera. Regardless, he had been ordered by the Nuekallayan government to secure the border and prevent the flow of weapons. So here he was, out in the middle of the desert along the poorly marked border between the Republic of Bomya and Hadera, patroling in his armored car, and sweating like a pig.

In the middle of one long and uneventful patrol, he was surprised at the new orders he received over the radio. Apparently General Abiam Dori of the Bomya armed forces had chosen to support Masorati over Amirov's corrupt government. Sergeant Dayan was overjoyed to hear that not only would he end his patrols, but he would be delivering a load of RPG-29 rockets soon.

Jafir was driving the car around the heavy traffic streets. He had a very important delivery to make near the Xyraeli embassy. The guards stopped him at the gate.
Guard: "Can i see your documentation?"
Jafir: "Here..."
Guard: "I'm sorry, you are not allowed to park here. There's a parking entrance around the corner, move along."
Jafir: "Thank you."
Right where he wanted, his brothers said he should park near a big pillar, he chose the closest to the embassy and parked. They said if he had lack of reception to try to phone them outside.
Jafir: "Hello my brother, I have parked but as you said, I have lack of reception there."
Mahaqori: "You've done a pretty great job, brother. There is a reception device under the driving seat, please set it on."
Jafir: "Alright, what should i do next."
Mahaqori: "Get a bus to the temple and pray, today you are a hero. May Yahweh bless your life!"
Jafir: "May Yahweh be with you."
Happens that Mahaqori was right on the other side of the street, looking through a window. He saw a limo going in the embassy and several diplomats walking to the building. After the appropriated time, he pressed the button and from the back of the embassy an explosion occured.

The Embassy crumbled and the floors collapsed, perfect! The plan was a success, now Mahaqori had to go to the temple and pray for their lives to be dead and the success of the mission. Thank Yahweh!

The truck roared through the town. The group of men, there faces covered, ran outside it. They had there guns drawn, and began taking the Illumists outside there homes, and lineing them up on the walls.

"Get moving, you bastards!"

They lined up all men, 19 and Up, against the wall, and mowed them down. The Women and Children, shocked, began to cry. The group turned towards them, and shot at there feet.

"Go and tell the Xyralis that we don't want there religion here!"

A few stayed right where they were standing, not moving a inch. Others, ran. The ones that stayed, well, didn't really say much after that. It is hard to talk when you have no tongue.

<ooc>Lol nice  ;D</ooc>

Abir and Mordecai made it to Ashdod unhindered. Almost immediately, they had been assigned to a new company and ordered to get ready to head back into Herzliya. They didn't have the forces on hand to take the city; the objectives were to first search for and recover any bodies of fallen comrades and second to kill as many rebels as possible in the process.

This is how Army operations typically are. Not having enough men to truly hold and secure any territory, they limit themselves to raids with the sole intent of killing as many rebels as possible, and trying to get lucky enough to win a large victory that would inspire citizens to join their ranks. Such a victory has thus far eluded the Army.

Unfortunately for the Army, not only do they lack the troops to take Herzliya, they lack the forces to hold on to Ashdod Army Base this time.

Fire Team E's new company commander had given them the sitrep when new orders came in. "Alright men, rebels have been spotted to our west. We will be going that way to take care of them. Now get going!"

West took them into the rolling dunes of the desert. With Ashdod still in sight, Tikkun Olam struck. An Army truck hit what must have been a land mine, triggering a rain of mortar that came down upon them. Soldiers were ordered in the direction the mortars were coming from. Once topping a dune and finding the mortars and their crews, about five rebels began firing their AK's as the rest fled, and felling two soldiers almost instantly.

Army soldiers returned fie. The rebels had dug holes to provide cover, and soldiers couldn't hit their targets. Nonetheless, after about a single minute of near continuous gunfire, the rebels retreated and the mortar positions were over run.

The Army gave chase and encountered the same thing after topping another dune. And another. And another. Seren Samal Gideon, the commander, was becoming suspicious. "Hold it, hold your positions!"

A junior officer approached Gideon. "Sir, what's wrong?" he asked. "They're on the run!"

"This is not how Tikkun Olam fights... They are up to something, I know it." Gideon said. He immediately began scanning around. When his eyes came upon Ashdod, which is well behind them now, he thought he saw a sparkle... Then it came to him. It was a low, almost unnoticeable rumble.

"Retreat! Return to Ashdod!" Gideon bellowed.

"Why? What's going on?" the junior officer asked.

"This has been nothing but a diversion! Ashdod is under attack!"

Gideon's radio came to life. "Alert! Ashdod is under attack, return to base immediately. Copy?" Gideon acknowledged, and began back tracking to the base.

By the time they arrived, nearly three quarters of the base had been taken over. They engaged the rebels, but the ones they had been pursuing had tagged along. Faced with attacks on both sides, Gideon made the call to abandon Ashdod for now and take up defensive positions on a hill just to the northeast overlooking the base. They would wait for reinforcements that would hold Ashdod while Gideon's men would continue into Herzliya.

Upwards of 50 soldiers remained prisoners to Tikkun Olam when Gideon decided to retreat.

Gideon's request for reinforcements was answered with 500 soldiers from Netivot Border Defense Base, north of Ashkelon on the Haderan/Saradian border. It would be a few hours before they arrived. In the mean time, Gideon's men remained on the hill monitoring the rebels' movements.

"It's times like these that I wish I had trained to be a sniper..." Mordecai said. He was watching some rebels who were doing something next to the crater where the bomb had went off. Like in Herzliya, Tikkun Olam used a dump truck laden with bombs. This was the sparkle Gideon say when they were out on their fool's errand.

Since taking over the base, there were no shots between the rebels and the soldiers. "I just wish the bitches would do a human wave up this hill so we could mow them down." Abir said.

"What the...?"

"Huh? What is it, Mordecai?"

"Dammit! Take a look next to the water tower!"

Mordecai handed his binoculars to Abir. "Those fucking bastards!" Rebels had begun lining up about a dozen prisoners, each with a black shroud over their head. They were all down on their knees. One of the rebels looked in their general direction and gave a wave. Abir could see he had a pistol in his hand. The rebel proceeded to shoot each one of the prisoners execution-style, and gave another wave when he was done.

About an hour passed since the slayings. Gideon received a message via radio from Raam Brigade's top commander. Gideon's reinforcements would not be coming. There was a bombing in Ashkelon that leveled the Xyraeli embassy, all 500 soldiers were being redirected there.

"Well, we have the forces to retake Ashdod," Gideon said. "But we won't be able to move into Herzliya like I had planned."

"So how do you think we should do this?" asked a junior officer.

"We surround the base with men to prevent any rebels from escaping. The main assault will come from this hill and use our trucks for cover. Mortars will..."

Three explosions rang out from Ashdod. Gideon could see smoke and flames billowing out of the center of the base. Gideon's walkie talkie crackled to life. "This is Segen Boaz, I have confirmed the enemy is abandoning the base, over."

"They're retreating?" Gideon said to himself. He brought up his walkie talkie. "Segen Boaz, get all of the men on their feet! We're retaking Ashdod, now."

They had proceeded in a sort of human wave into the base. All of the remaining captive soldiers were found dead in the building that had exploded.

Gideon would recieve another mesage from Raam's commander. Masorati had begun a large attack sout of Herzliya. Tikkun Olam had retreated to counter the greater threat posed by Masorati...

Fierce fighting has been raging in the south between Masorati and Tikkun Olam rebels after Masorati's large scale offensive for weeks. Attacks against government targets have all but stopped as each side tries to consolidate their forces to combat the opposing side's.

*Ashdod*

There came a knock at Gideon's door. "Come in." One of Gideon's officers walks in. "Ah, Boaz, how's it going, soldier?"

"As good as on can, I suppose." Boaz lays an envelope on Gideon's desk. "This came in from HQ. I was asked to deliver it to you."

"From HQ?" Gidean picked up the envelope. The return address was from Sar HaBitakhon Yitzhak Lavon, the commander of the entire military, second in command only to Rosh HaMemshala Moshegur Amirov. Inside was a letter.

Quote
Seren Samal Gideon:
These are dire times for the Haderan Republic. The rebels continually gain more support as the citizens lose hope in the Army being able to provide them with the security they need. Soldiers are going AWOL or getting killed quicker than new recruits are signed on. Our numbers are quickly dwindling, we need to pull off a major victory.

The recent fighting between Masorati and Tikkun Olam rebels may have just provided us with that chance. Tikkun Olam is pulling all of its forces to the south. In Ashkelon, where we only have control of a small security zone around our government institutions, Tikkun Olam is vulnerable. We plan to consolidate our forces there and cleanse the capitol of the rebel scum.

Prepare to move in to Ashkelon. Meggido, Mossad, and Shabak Brigades are also moving in in this coordinated effort.

"About damn time..."

Boaz was puzzled. "What is it sir?"

"We're moving out. We'll be going north to liberate Ashkelon. Go get the men ready, we're moving out as soon as possible. The other brigades are probably already close to the capitol."

*Ashkelon Outskirts*

The Haderan capitol of Ashkelon has been largely off limits to government officials and security forces. With the exception of the Knesset, other government buildings, and the highway dedicated for convoys to bring supplies to them, Ashkelon is under the control of deeply garrisoned Tikkun Olam rebels. Still, mortar attacks on the Knesset occurs almost daily.

The rain of mortar rounds have all but stopped in recent days, however. "As you know, Masorati began a large offensive up the Haifa," Raam commander Aluf Mishne Yonatan Netanyahu to Gideon as they met in the command tent on the outskirts of Ashkelon. "The blitz caught Olam off guard apparently, and now the two are mired in Beersheba."

"Beersheba?" Gideon asked, a little surprised. "That's not far from Ashdod..."

"Indeed. But don't worry about that, there are other brigades in the are that are monitoring the situation and will intervene if Ashdod becomes threatened." Netanyahu saw a puzzled look come across Gideon's face. "Is something wrong?"

"They are 'monitoring' the situation?"

"Yes. See, they're waiting for one to be soundly defeated, then move in and mop up whoever's still standing. It's to minimize Army casualties."

Gideon slammed his fist down on Netanyahu's table. "That's ridiculous! We should be in there now to end the fighting an protect the citizens!"

"The order came from the Sar HaBitkhon himself." Netanyahu said. "Our orders did too. If you don't mind, let's get to business, shall we?"

"Right, right." Gideon said dissappointingly.

"Now," Netanyahu continued, "military intelligence suggests that Olam has shifted fighters to the south to counter Masorati. The large decrease in the number of mortars fired at the Knesset seems to verify this. The Memshala views pacifying the capitol as their top priority. That's what brings Raam and Meggido here. This is the best chance we'll ever get at it." Netanyahu points to a map of Ashkelon lying on the table between them. "As you can see, the Haifa meanders around the eastern edge and the main highway runs straight up the center of town."

Gideon sat quietly, looking at the map, strategizing. He said, "The Haifa would make a great natural barrier to trap fleeing rebels. How about entering from the west and pin them up against the river?"

"Hmm..." Netanyahu mulled over the idea in his head. "We would need to reinforce the main highway. Things will get hairy as first they try to get reinforcements to the front lines and then to try and flee as we keep pushing them back.:

"We better go then." Gideon said as he began for the tent's exit. "They've undoubtedly noticed us by now. We need to hurry up and encircle them before they decide to run away."

"Yeah, good thinking."

Lieutenant Mustafa Darius looked on from his window in the rebel-infested region of Hadera. He heard gunfire get closer and closer. His men, the 2nd Platoon, First Company, were creating an ambush on this particular street because the military had begun it's crackdown on the rebels. The largest concentration of rebels was here in Basra City. The military had sent in more divisions including tank divisions. The surge had yielded real results. The crackdown was going well. Mustafa saw the rebels move into the street. Just as they should. Now the retreat is done. As the rebels made their way on the street, Mustafa waited and waited. His men were getting jetterish. He nodded. "Fire!" The gunfire and grenades opened up on the rebels. They were surrounded. Lieutenant Darius smiled as the rebels were either killed or surrendered. He nodded. The men moved out on the surrendered rebels.
