DSA Declaration of War

"Please rise for the President of the Democratic States."
There was an overwhelming applause from the joint session of Congress. The Federalists may have lost a few seats to the Socialists during the mid-term election, but they still had a firm grip on Congress, mostly due to the now defunct Progressive Party botching the war against the Confederacy.

The Federalist President of the DSA, Adam Kennedy, took his place at the Speaker's podium in the House. He was up for re-election in a year, he had to take advantage of this opportunity.

"Two wars, and nothing is solved. Two wars, and injustice still remains. The Empire of Inglo-Scotia, the Kingdom of Myroria, and the Confederate States have seen it in their interests to involve themselves  in a fight that does not concern them. If allowed to stand, this sets the precedent for a PI-controlled world.
Last night President Pershing did not ask for his Congress to debate the course of his nation, he dictated it to them. He disregarded the vanguard of his peoples' rights to representative democracy. Is that yet an other precedent we wish to set? A dictatorship that disregards the will of the people on this continent?
There are dangerous times. If we stand by and do nothing we allow the war mongers and dictators to control our destiny. Evil is only able to rise when good people do nothing. The DSA will not allow evil to rise to prominence.
Will will strike at its heart on this continent, we will liberate an oppressed people being ruled by a madman. I am asking you, the Congress of the Democratic States, to declare war on the Confederate States of Sovereign Dixie, so that we may rip the heart out of the cancer that has plagued our continent.
Make no mistake, this is not an attempt to force the southern Confederacy into the Democratic union. They have risen in unison and have chosen their own path. Yet when a young nation, based on the same principals as ours, falls under the thumb of a tin-pot dictator we have a responsibility to set them on the right path.
This would be a war to remove a dictator and set our southern neighbour back on the path to democracy, not a war of territorial conquest.

Congress erupted in approval, only the few Socialists sat in silence.
Kennedy didn't stay to observe the vote. He wanted to differentiate this declaration from Pershing's as much as possible. If he had chosen to observe he would have been accused of influencing the vote.
The vote would pass, no need for him to be there anyway.

The Presidential motorcade took off, heading to the Adams House, the coincidently named Presidential mansion in Boston.
"General Morrel sir" Secretary of War Robert Abramson announced, handing Kennedy the phone.

"Yes....yes.....execute War Plan Alabama Lightning" Kennedy instructed, before hanging up.
The mistakes of the past would not be repeated. He would not stretch the armies of the DSA out over long border of a neighbouring belligerent. He would concentrate all his troops and planes in one spot and thrust through the Confederacy to the steps of the Confederate capital building in Montgomery.

May your troops fight with the Light on your side, may your nation be a beacon of hope in a land of shadow. May your soldiers be the embers of victory eternal, for the Light shall allow no man nor woman of your land to die without purpose. Let your citizens know that within their souls and within their hearts is the spirit and courage to endure the horrible trials that these dark times will place before you. Know this, my friends, you are not alone in this world. You are a land of truth and justice, and though your enemies would see you stripped bare and cast into oblivion you are not without companions. The Blessed Illuminate will do what it can to ensure that your nation does not go quietly into that good night.

It is not within the IPO's power to dictate the terms in which the Democratic States will conduct itself during a time of crisis.

When you commit yourself as a member of IPO, you commit your nation to it's ideology of harmony and make it as yours. As your government clearly does not understand the process of peaceful coexistence, and has openly violate the responsibilities of your membership, I hereby revoke your membership to IPO.

Your government is also hereby classify as a rogue state under the perspective of the IPO, we will cease to recognize the current DSA as a legitimate sovereignty.

Should your Presidency continue to believe that war against the Pax Imperium is imperative, and should the war be found in the public's favor, the Illuminate will support the DSA by offering troops for defensive purposes. The Illuminate would respectfully request that the DSA withdraw herself from the war, however, and work together with the Illuminate to build closer ties and restore the war-torn economy of your land. We offer morale support regardless of your path.
