Dysaniian Colonization
« on: February 20, 2007, 11:27:04 PM »
In the recent elections, the Liberal Party, which has been in government for years since 'The Unification', has been replaced by the Conservative Party.

Winning the elections on the pretext of transforming the 'Little Dysanii' of the Liberals into creating an empire of liberty, truth and justice that will be the envy of Taijitu, the Tories have adopted an imperial strategy of expansion.

An island has been chosen as ripe for expansion, located off the South coast of the continent in which the nation of Whereamistan resides. The unclaimed island will strengthen Dysaniian influence in the East, create international recognition and bring vast amounts of gold and diamonds into the coffers of the élite.

A fleet and expeditionary force of 30,000 men under General Cote have been dispatched to the island.

A few months later...

Three major settlements have appeared on the Western side of the island. The port settlement of Bayonne, which handles imported supplies from Dysanii and sends them to Nevers, the coastal storage and supply camp charged with the distribution of supplies to the Western settlements. Vichy, which is to the North of Fort Maxine has become the agricultural hub of the island, and Rois, currently the biggest settlement in the colony and closest to the Eastern region of the island.

Now that the colonization of the island is more stable in supplies, organisation and administration, it has been deemed by Dysaniian government and military officials that further colonization to the East can be supported. Military personnel have been dispatched to set up temporary camps to be developed, with the help of colonists, into settlements. The resources for this will be provided by Nevers until another storage and supply camp has been established in the East.

After venturing into the East of Nouveau Metz, four major settlements have sprung up. Rodez, the furthest settlement East on the main island (Epinal) and formally responsible for supporting the crossings to the island of Privas. Privas is home to a further three settlements: Pontivy, Auch and Ussel. The three settlements are fairly self supportive, only needing to import resources that do not come naturally to the island. All imported goods from Dysanii or Epinal to Privas go through Pontivy, which, being the closest to the main island of Epinal, focuses largely on importing and exporting. Ussel is the smallest town on Privas, and is home to more of the richer colonists. Finally Auch, while still a settlement, is also used as an outpost for Privas due to its coastal position and good view of the Northeastern shore. The supply and storage facility on Epinal, Nevers, has been converted in to a town and like Auch it also acts as an outpost. The largest settlement, Rois, has been declared by the Dysaniian government as the capital of Nouveau Metz. Plans are being made for expansion to the Western island, Albi, believed to be where the islands deposits of cobalt are, and to begin mining operations in the limestone-rich Eastern region near Rodez.

A small town has been officially declared on Albi - Valence. The newest addition to the colony, Valence is the smallest settlement in Nouveau Metz, and handles the exportation of cobalt from the mine to the East of Albi to Dysanii. Another larger cobalt mine has also been opened in Epinal on the island off the North coast, but unlike the one on Albi it organises its own exportation. Two limestone mining projects have also been established, again in Epinal, but on the main isle - one near Rodez in the East and the other near Rois to the West.

Dysaniian control over the new colony has been rocked. 2 days ago, the new settlement of Lyon, an isolated town on the main land Epinal, was attacked.

Reports estimate roughly 50 men, armed with Ak-47s and fragmentation grenades, attacked from the East and West. It is believed they came over from the two small islands under the larger island where a cobalt mining facility lies. They traveled over in small boats, some have even suggested canoes, and landed roughly a mile each side of Lyon, where they made their way in on foot.

Dysaniian regulars were able to hold Lyon, but suffered casualties of 3 dead and 9 wounded. 14 half naked bodies, those of the people that attacked Lyon, have also been found. It is believe they fled to their boats and they now once again reside on the two unknown islands.

Dysaniian soldiers say that the attackers were Dysaniian, so it can be reasoned that they are isolationists that, along with others, have moved to the two islands not currently garrisoned to start their own free settlements. These attacks are also at the same time as the expansion by Whereamistan, so these outcasts may have thought this the time to attack government controlled territory.

The Dysaniian command on the island have dispatched soldiers from the Nevers outpost to further stabilize Lyon against any further attacks, and have dispatched a cruiser and 500 men from Fort Maxine to the islands, intent on crushing the rebellious people and ending these 'free settlements'.

The landing zones and subsequent attack routes of the separatists.

The reinforcements from Nevers and forces sent from Fort Maxine to quell this rebellion. Note the ship must go around Albi, as the route to the North is known to be quicker, but very treacherous.

The cruiser has reached the islands, currently officially known as 'Island A' and 'Island B'. Small squads of soldiers have begun scouring 'Island A' and a small camp has been erected on the Southern coast.

Dysaniian officials assure the international community these armed separatists, when found, will be detained and only harmed in the act of defense on the part of the soldiers on the island.

Dysaniian soldiers search Island A for the rebel settlement, cautious of traps.

There has also been talk of many more Dysaniian separatists intermingling themselves with natives on what local Noveau Metzians call 'Rock Freedom Island'. The Council has yet to comment on these allegations, and if it has dispatched any forces to 'Rock Freedom Island' in response to these claims.

Dysaniians are smuggling themselves using merchant ships to Rock Freedom Island and joining the separatists. It is unknown whether any Dysaniian naval ships are in the area, or, if in fact the claims have been noted by the government. It is believed the smuggling occurs solely from Privas.

The separatist settlement was found on Island A. Dysaniian infantry failed to obtain control of the settlement due to fierce resistance, and called in for extensive bombing of the area to soften the resistance against further assaults. Further use of field artillery gave good results, and the settlement was taken several days ago, and the survivors detained.

A howitzer in action. Only 8 were used, as the size of the settlement dictated that there was no need for a large military assault.

Arial observations of Island B show no sign of any settlements. It is believed this island is safe, and was merely used as a staging point for the attack on Lyon.

However, the major concern of the Dysaniian government is the illegal travel of hundreds, if not thousands of Dysaniians from the island of Privas in Noveau Metz. The reports of new, 'free' towns springing up on Rock Freedom Island were cemented when a cargo ship travelling in the direction of RFI was found loaded with Dysaniians. After 'questioning', they revealed there were in fact towns of Dysaniians living on the island - and off it, on the coast, mingling with the natives.

This information disturbs the Dysaniian government and the extensiveness of the rush to Rock Freedom Island has clearly been underestimated. It has been officially said by government officials that the problem will be solved - by annexing Rock Freedom Island, one way or the other.

Cargo ships are believed to be the most common method of travel from Privas to Rock Freedom Island.

The Dysaniian government can now officially make [/i]Noveau Mets[/i] a colony of Dysanii, and with this the colony has been given its official name, Metz Minor.

Since the fall of the separatist movement on Metz Minor after the destruction of its base on 'Island A', the government has spent months using police detectives and military agents in routing out any underground separatist cells still present in the colony. Army intelligence now believes there is a very limited if totally absent anti-government activities in Metz Minor.

These past months have also seen the government run several large operations around the island of Privas and the surrounding waters to stem the flow of Dysaniians travelling to RFI and beyond. The government believe these operations have been increasingly successful and now have a firm hold on any illegal immigration from Metz Minor.

Not to say that there aren’t any feelings of discontent on the new colony, but with events in Gaulasia and Southern Ryazania to contend with, and plans at home, the government feels it has improved the conditions on Metz Minor to the best of its abilities and with resources available. Now it is officially Dysaniian territory, the government will be putting much more money into the colony to vastly improve its infrastructure and make full use of its trade potential, in time making it the jewel of the 'Dysaniian Empire' and a very profitable asset.
