Reunion under the Maple Tree
« on: August 27, 2007, 08:38:29 PM »
A beer bottle rolls on the floor. The room was dark and stank of alcohol. A dark figure sat curled up on the bed. His face was unshaven and he had black bangs under his eyes. It was the appearance of a man that lost all hope.

For the last five days, Jade had been drinking himself numb. The destruction of Loyalist, it was too much for him to take. He couldn't accept it, the entirety of it all. The cause of it and the result of it, the loss of his friends in First Division, and....Commander. She was dead wasn't she? Why...why did it come to this.

He didn't know who to hate, who to blame,...the Saletsian? The generals? The Chancellor even? He didn't want to think about it, but the reality was hard to ignore.

Jade downed down another Molson. He glanced down, at a picture of his company. His friends...his brothers...and the Commander. Tears came, and Jade started crying.

Then, there was a knock on the door. Jade turned his head, and the knock came again. He didn't want to get up, didn't want to hear anymore bad news. The knock came again, and again, and again....

BASH!

The door swings open, the broken bolt flings towards the wall. Someone walks in...

Jade couldn't believe his eyes. It was a girl. He recognizes her face, it was definitely her. The face that he first saw on his first day of training...the one he thought died...she was looking straight at him.

"You idiot! Why didn't you open the door!"

"Elis..."

Elis sprinted towards him and landed into his arms. Jade felt her warmness, then felt the drip of her tears on his face. She was alive...

-------------------------------------------

It turns out Elis and the Chancellor's family managed to escape Loyalist a day before the self-destruction order by the rogue HOLA generals. They had manage to secure a express mail ship for their journey to Canada, which took a total of nine days. When they arrived, they posed as civilian refugees, but apparently, Elis's brother decided to surrender himself to Canadians.

"I thought you were dead..."

"Takes more than nuclear destruction to kill me..."

"You know where the other guys are? What about my aunt?"

"You aunt is safe, in Terranger. I made sure that she got on the evacuation transport on the first day. As for Fire  Company, I heard they're somewhere in UFM, but that's about it..."

"Heaven...well, a least you are alive...Commander."

"I'm not your Commander anymore...the military was dissolved remember? I'm just Elis now..."

Jade felt nervous, being so close to Elis. She was different now, not the hard-ass officer that he was use to, but a soften and angelic young woman. Her face was no longer cold and blank, but a rosy expression of warmth and innocence.

Elis noticed his stares. Her cheeks turned red. Jade realizes this and looks away.

"Sorry..."

"It's alright..."

A guard dressed in his ceremonial red uniform and black pants. His shining breastplate and helmet brought back an era that was gone. He walked up the steps of the PRL's former embassy, now the Government House for the Provisional Government of the People's Republic. He needed to get the Ambassador of the PRL to Canada, Drillmaster Jade. The gaurd walked into the Ambassador's room and was surprised to find the door broken down, but was even more surprised to see two figures in the room. One was the Ambassador and the other was a beautiful female. The guard saluted the Ambassador. "Sir, Chancellor Yuri von Hessian wishes to see you at the Maple Tree in ten minutes for tea. You can bring the lady if you wish. He wishes to discuss with you the future of the People's Republic. A limo is waiting outside." The guard turned and left.

ooc: opps didnt read carefully  :P

"Oh, sorry. Um, I need a minute to...clean up...?"

Jade waits for the man to leave, then hastily rushes to the bathroom to shower and shave. He came out nude with only a towel wrapped around his waist, which drew the eyes of Elis.

"Oh shit, forgot you were here, sorry!" Elis gave out a smile.

Jade quickly pulls out a few articles of clothing from the drawers, and retreats back to the bathroom to dress. When he came out, Elis was already waiting for him in the hallway.

"Seven minutes flat, guess you haven't lost edge as a booky." Elis chuckles.

"Eh right. You sure you want to come?"

"Yeah."

"Alright..."

As they walked down the hallway, Elis wrapped her arm around Jade's. His face instantly turned red. This was something new...and sudden. The two walked out into the street, looking like your average couple.

"Sorry to keep you waiting! Shall we go?" Elis said to their escort.

The guards nodded and opened the door to the limo. The guards got in the front seats and the limo sped off to the Maple Tree. The limo drove through the Gaulasian Quarter of Ottawa until they arrived at a quent little cafe. The guards opened the limo door anjd let the pair out. They walked into the cafe. It was empty, except for a hostess and a few waiters. The hostess looked at the Loyalists and a gentle smile came over her face. "Hello, welcome to the Maple Tree, the Chancellor and the First Minister are waiting for you." The hostess showed them to the balcony of the cafe where two people were sitting. One Jade recognized as Yuri von Hessian, Chancellor of the Empire of Canada, the other he didn't. She was Segolene Cabot, First Minister of the Kingdom of Quebec. The Chancellor showed them to their seats. "So, Jade, let us have some tea and then we can discuss what we came here to talk about. But first I want to introduce Segolene Cabot, First Minister of the Kingdom of Quebec." The First Minister bowed. Then the Chancellor saw the beautiful Loyalist next to Jade. "Who is this?"

"Long time no see Chancellor!" Jade reached his hands to Cabot. "Good to meet you Ms. Cabot. Jade of the Loyalist Embassy, at your service."

"Hi." Elis waved at the Chancellor and Minister. Jade introduced Elis to them.

"This is Elis Xie, sister of Chancellor Xie. Also, former-Commander of the Loyalist Army and Head Officer of the Loyalist Special Forces."

"That was a mouthful...it's good to meet both of you. I like to thank you for all your help, Chancellor Yuri." Elis took a bow.

"Alright, now that the formalities are done, let's have some tea!" Jade and Elis took their seats. There was a cool breeze blowing over. Below them, the grand city landscape of Ottawa presents itself under the sunset sky. It eerily reminded Jade and Elis of Anyia....so tranquil and peaceful.

Chancellor Yuri looked at the two guests and could see the sadness in their eyes. He thought to himself. How terrible it was to lose your nation and be the survivors living in a far away land. He turned to Cabot and she could see that as well. He looked at the two as he set his tea down. "I want to speak to you about the future of the Provisional Government. I respect Xia and I think he is a great man, but I believe the PGL needs new idealistic leaders that can bring the Loyalists back into the light of the world. I want your opinions and and perhaps suggestions so that my government and the Provisional Government can work together so that we can create a new homeland for your people."

"Politics is not my strong point Chancellor. But, I think the decision belongs all Loyalist..." Jade responded.

Elis nodded in agreement. "Power in a few, results in the suffering of many. The Teacher spoke of this..." she adds.

Chancellor Yuri nodded. "Your right. I like those answers. Well, I want to give you the good news. The Terranger and the Salestian governments are allowing all Loyalists in their countries to move here to Canada. I am granting all of you the status of special residents. I am setting land in the northern regions between Canada and Quebec to be given to the Loyalists. The Canadian government will give the Provisional Government self-rule status and the people in these regions can rebuild their lives. What do you think? This is the best my country can do at the moment. There is lots of empty land up there for you and we can help you build cities and anything the Loyalists will need. But onto lighter things. Where did you two meet?"

"Your country had done more than enough for us, Chancellor. It will be hard establishing our new homes, but I think the strength of the Loyalist people will bring about the revival of the State. Now, I'm feeling for some club sandwich...what's there on the menu, Elis you want anything?"

"You should try the smoked salmon with the side of poutine. It is the best in the city." The Chancellor and the First Minister both made their orders. The group talked about their homes and their time in Canada-Quebec. The waiters brought the meals. Jade had the club sandwich and the other three had the smoked salmon with poutine. They talked about life and laughed alot. It was interesting how in the aftermath of destruction, there can be peace and smiles that in turn bring new life.

"I don't know about you Elis, but Canadian cuisine beats everything else..." Jade mouths as he chews on his sandwich.

"Not bad...better than ARU rations..." Elis replies, then stuffs a chunk of poutine salmon into her mouth.

The Chancellor and First Minister looked at their guests with growing interest. Yuri turned to Segolene. "Vous vous rappelez quand vous étiez dernier dans l'amour comme cela?" Segolene shook her head. "No. J'envie les jeunes et leur amour." Chancellor Yuri nodded. "Il sera jusqu'aux jeunes comme ils pour faire au monde un meilleur endroit. Comme ce que le Kaiser fait." Segolene nodded. "Je n'ai pas vu un couple cet beaucoup dedans amour depuis que j'ai vu le Kaiser et le Kaiserin se marier." Jade looked at the two executives rattling on in their Quebecois language. He had picked up alot of that language when he became the Ambassador to the country. He smiled. He knew what they were talking about. They were talking about love. Chancellor Yuri looked at both Jade and Elis and he smiled.
