Prison Break
« on: September 12, 2007, 10:37:30 PM »
Azotus IX... Ex-Collosean Prime Minister and Ex-Collosean Heritage Party (CHP) leader. Seven years ago, his rule came to an end after the bloody Second Collosean Civil War, when the rebel forces routed the Collosean Armed Forces (CAF) in the national capitol of Titania. Azotus IX and most CHP members in leader positions were arrested, charged with treason, and imprisoned without a trial. The prison they were sent to is the Ionian Detention Center, located in the Ionian Jungle in Boetia Provence.

It was 10:00pm, the guards were doing their usual routine of going through all of the cells, ensuring every last prisoner was accounted for. "Smoking kills, you know..." Azotus IX smirked as one of the prison guards walked by.

"So does my pistol. Get back in your cot." The guard only looked long enough to make sure he was there. Azotus IX complied willing, knowing that it would only be a matter of time before he was out of this hell hole.

Recently after Osafune III was elected, nearly 500,000 Paramilitary soldiers were pushed into federal service as Army, Navy, and Air Force servicemen. Before this, the Army had contained under 90,000 soldiers and the Navy and Air Force was in even worse shape. The Boetian Paramilitary was in charge of the Ionian Detention Center, and after this move by the Prime Minister, the average number of guards on the complex dropped by over half.

The prison cells were just were barred like in older prisons. Slowly but surely Kapodistrias V, one of the stronger inmates, had been working the bolts out of his cage door. It has taken nearly a week and he his fingers had become a tender, cut-up pulp in the process, but he was finally near to getting the last one off of there. The whole thing was a miracle. When asked about his bloody fingers, Kapodistrias V had basically said cut them when he fell during recreation and later reopened the wounds. Amazingly, the guards believed him. What was even more amazing though, was that they hadn't noticed the missing bolts on the cell door yet.

"Come on, Kapo!" whispered one of the other inmates. They were all on the edge of their cots in anticipation.

"Got it!" The bolt came off, and Kapodistrias V gently laid the door down so that nobody could here it.

They all knew that the guard on their ward always slacked off at night. He would often go into the office where the cell keys are kept and dozes. Kapodistrias V sneaked his way from his cell to that office and sure enough, the guard was fast asleep. Kapodistrias V slowly nudged the door open, making sure not to wake the bastard. There were many screens in the room showing all of the security camera feed . His own cell was on the 2nd screen from the left, and he just couldn't figure out how he was spotted removing the bolts before... You could see in all of the cells as plain as day. We lucked out getting a guard like this he thought. The guard was sleeping in a wooden chair facing the screens with his head cocked to the right. His silenced pistol was laying on top of the desk in front of him on a cloth. He must have been cleaning it when he dozed off. It sure was a god damned miracle; everything was going better than planned.

Kapodistrias V picked the pistol up slowly and checked it for ammo... It was fully loaded. He turned with it, put it right next to the guard's temple, and fired. He fell out of his seat with a thud and Kapodistrias V was now free to move around the office as he pleased to get all the cell keys.

With all of the cells opened, it was time to move on to the other five wards. All five were handled in the same manner; Kapodistrias V would wander around, a competent guard would come down, scold him, and prepare to escort him to his cell and Kapo would pull out his pistol, shoot, loot the body for his gun and ammo, and then proceed to the office to get the ward's keys. After hardly any time at all, all of the prisoners were freed.

"Amazing job their Kapo, I know I made you my Deputy for a reason!" exclaimed Azotus IX.

"Thank you, but we're not out of the woods yet you know."

And he knew... The hardest part has yet to come. Paramilitary soldiers patrolled around the complex constantly and they would have to avoid the machine guns in the watch towers. Thankfully for the prisoners, there was an armory in the complex that housed the rifles and ammo used by the Paramilitary.

"It's pretty muggy out tonight, isn't it?" Private Nafplion I turned to his patroll partner. "Yo, you awake over there buddy?"

"Shut up, you see that?" he said and pointed off at a window in Ward A.

Nafplion I followed his finger. "I don't see any--" Bullets started raining down on them from the window before he could finish the sentence. "Holy shit!"

The two fired up in the air. They knew that the fire had to be coming from their fellow soldiers, but the fire never let up. Nafplion I's partner fell on his back with a bullet hole in his chest. "Dammit, come on Corfu!"

Nafplion I picked up his fellow soldier and began to make a run for saftey, but then he too was hit in the back as he was running.

After hearing the shots, spotlights immediately came on all across the complex and soldiers began running to where they were heard. The first soldiers to arrive were taken by surprise by the prisoners and were also shot and laid lifeless on the ground now. Fire was exchanged by other soldiers who were in route and saw what took place.

Ward A was behind other buildings on the complex, so the machine gunners were unable to give support. While all of the attention was focused on that ward, prisoners snuck up on one of the Watch towers and caught the soldiers there off guard. They manned the machine gun and opened fire on another tower, also killing the soldiers there. Two of the towers were out of commission, two more were left. Those two opened up on the one taken by the prisoners. Again while their attention was elsewhere, other prisoners snuck up and took control of those towers.

The remaining soldiers were now at the prisoners' mercy. Most had been gunned down and stripped of their equipment as the prisoners made their escape into the Ionian Jungle.

A few days had past since the prison break. Metaxas VII, a little known mayor from a small town nestled in the mountains of Pheidias Provence, was walking down the main street of Kostas towards the docks. He was looking for a man by the name of Euboea IV, a personal friend of Azotus IX.

As he went on, he felt like his intestines had tied themselves up in a knot. Being one of the CHP prisoners that escaped from the Ionian Detention Center and now walking the streets out in the open, he was as nervous as hell of being spotted by a police officer who may be out looking for him. And when he's nervous, he gets one hell of a stomach ache.

Metaxas VII managed to bypass the police in Kostas and get to the docks. He began looking for a freighter by the name of the "Mytilene." He walked along the docks and couldn't help but notice the smell of the salt water... It was so much better than the dank, dirty smell of prison.
"Finally..." murmered Metaxas VII as he neared the end of the dock where he found the Mytilene. There, he saw a rather bulky man facing away from him standing next to the ramp as people got boarded the ship. "Uh excuse me sir?"

"What is it?" the man turned aroung and replied in a husky voice. The man had a scar on his right cheek that Metaxas almost couldn't help but stare at.

"I'm looking with Euboea IV, the captain of this ship."

"I'm Euboea IV. And who might you be?"

"Uhh..." He was hesitant to reply, fearing someone might overhear. After a few moments, the immediate area was generally clear and he whispered, "Metaxas VII, an associate of Azotus IX."

Euboea IV's grew bigger. "Is that so... I feel we better get aquinted someplace more private, eh?"

Metaxas VII just nodded and Euboea IV led him through a series of passages in the ship to what appeared to be a navigation room, because it had several maps strewn about. The two had a seat on either side of the desk in the center of the room.

"I assume you're with the CHP, am I right?"

Metaxas VII nodded and answered, "That's right."

"It's been all over the news... You guys escaped the prison, killed atleast a dozen paramilitary soldiers in the process..."

"Well we didn't keep track of that... We just did what we had to do to get out." Metaxas VII had almost felt guilty over it when he heard that, but he over came it as he reassured himself that he had nothing to do with deciding to carry it out.

"They still think you're still in Boetia, but here you are in Scythia." Euboea IV said as he turned to glance out a porthole.

"Yes but most of us are still in Boetia." Metaxas VII's eyes turned to see what he was looking at, but couldn't tell what.

Euboea IV turned back to Metaxas VII. "Is that so? Well you still haven't told me why you're here..."

"Azotus IX wanted me to ask you if you'll 'return the favor' and get us out of here and to just outside the borders of Feniexia."

"The favor eh? Heh, he always said that one day I would have to repay him for that. Guess now's the time..." Euboea IV's eyes were glowing. He seemed oddly happy considering what had happened over the past seven years. "I'll help but I gotta ask... Why there? Why not take you straight into Feniexia?"

Metaxas VII got a huge smile across his face. "Well it's kinda hard to found a new country on territory already claimed by another, isn't it?"

A little over a week later, the CHP had escaped Collosea. On the island they now called the Thermopylae Republic, about 200 ex-cons had set out to begin their new lives as a citizens of a new country.

They had stowed away in containers on the Mytilene and escaped through hatches when they reached their intended destination, jumped overboard, and swam ashore. They brought with them a few supplies such as nails and hammers for shelter construction, pots to boil water and cook with, fishing rods to fish with, and among other things, several guns they used to escape prison with. Azotus IX also carried with him a satellite phone, with which he called the Al Collose Newsroom, the most prominent news broadcasting country in Collosea, and delivered the following message:

"To the people of Collosea, we the Collosean Heritage Party urges you escape the shackles the Expatriates have bound you with and welcomes you to join us in the Thermopylae Republic, on an island just south-west of the Enlightened Empire of Feniexia."

It was brief and to the point, as Azotus IX wanted to reserve the batteries. Metaxas VII had stayed onboard the Mytilene and entered Feniexia as a Thermopylaean delegation to hammer out good relations and perhaps protection from Collosea, should they ever come for them, which they all knew would happen sooner or later. Metaxas VII is in Feniexia right now, seeking to speak with the Feniexian government.

The newly created Thermopylae Expeditionary Force was preparing to move out towards the island. The voice in the phone call announcing the creation of the Thermopylae Republic had been matched to that of Azotus IX's and intelligence tracked the location the call originated from.

Private Minoa II and Trikoupis I were waiting to board their transports to head over to Thermopylae.

"I don't see why this requires the mobilization of 2,000 men plus our only aircraft carrier..." Said Trikoupis I to his partner, Minoa II.

"Haven't you heard? They're still armed with the weapons taken from the prison they escaped from. Thermopylae is heavy in foliage too, so the aircraft from the Titan are there for recon, you see?" Minoa II replied.

"Yeah I see... Well whatever the reason, this is still pretty big isn't it?"

"Definitely. With this being our first over-seas military operation, you bet this is going to shake things up in this nation..."
