Quite right.  Now, if George Lucas could get that off his T-shirt and back into his movies, there might be hope left.

I think Lucas is incapable of creating anything on a par with Han Solo ever again.

I don't know about him creating a character on par with Han...I just know he cannot write dialog worth s**t.

extraordinary potential. My view – the liberal view – is that
government’s job is to help them to do it. Not to tell people how to
live their lives. But to make their choices possible, to release their
potential, no matter who they are. The way to do that is to take power away from those who hoard it. To challenge vested interests. To break down privilege. To clear out the bottlenecks in our society that block opportunity and block progress. And so give everyone a chance to live the life they want." - Nick Clegg, Leader of the Liberal Democrats and Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdom

Good characters can't be truly expressed without worthy dialog, and as characters only exist in the minds of those who watch them on screen they can only be good when the dialog portrays them properly.

What about silent movies?  There were good characters in those.

It's important to note the differences between modern acting and writing and the styles and methods those fields employed in the heyday of silent film.  Back then, actors expressed the feelings and desires of their characters in a very physically dynamic way, in a manner that would be considered far beyond overkill today.  Hamming it up, as it were.  Today's writers are expected to develop these same emotions with more subtlety, as the addition of verbal dialog made it possible to cease the "verbal pantomime" style of "speaking" in movies.

But there are characters in modern media that rarely talk, and yet they are understood and their emotions are still felt, often better than the chatty characters.  Besides, George could create the character and hire Paul Haggis to write the dialog.  (Isn't dialogue spelled that way and not dialog?)
