Title: The Universe just went bloop
Post by: Solnath on July 25, 2007, 03:11:18 PM
And here's (http://www.hellblazer.net/2007/07/23/recursion-shot-first/) the reason why.

Quite right.  Now, if George Lucas could get that off his T-shirt and back into his movies, there might be hope left.

I think Lucas is incapable of creating anything on a par with Han Solo ever again.

I don't know about him creating a character on par with Han...I just know he cannot write dialog worth s**t.

Good characters can't be truly expressed without worthy dialog, and as characters only exist in the minds of those who watch them on screen they can only be good when the dialog portrays them properly.

What about silent movies?  There were good characters in those.

It's important to note the differences between modern acting and writing and the styles and methods those fields employed in the heyday of silent film.  Back then, actors expressed the feelings and desires of their characters in a very physically dynamic way, in a manner that would be considered far beyond overkill today.  Hamming it up, as it were.  Today's writers are expected to develop these same emotions with more subtlety, as the addition of verbal dialog made it possible to cease the "verbal pantomime" style of "speaking" in movies.

But there are characters in modern media that rarely talk, and yet they are understood and their emotions are still felt, often better than the chatty characters.  Besides, George could create the character and hire Paul Haggis to write the dialog.  (Isn't dialogue spelled that way and not dialog?)

Actually, the universe went bloop long before when you said.  It went bloop about then (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S._presidential_election,_2000)

I don't get it.

Who wants the Episode 412: The Kurman Invasion from the future? I even know its intro!

A long long time ago...
In a not so far away galaxy that can take 3 days to travel to...

The Kurman Invasion!

The Kurmanians entered the New Empire's territory quickly swarming it and taking control of the corrupt Jedi Council. The populace were overjoyed. However, this was not to last. The Kurmans quickly started their reign of terror on Planet X. 432 .3 123. - 12cv in the BB.b.C-N Galaxy. Can Luke Solo of the esteemed Solo family line, enemy of the hated Skywalker family line, defeat the Kurmans?

Seriously, I don't get it...

Of course.

Yes, I believe was being obtuse.  Dialogue it is, though the spellchecker doesn't recognize it.  ::)

Thank you; I knew I wasn't crazy.  The spellchecker has probably gone a little batty having to deal with Barakarin, and has forgotten a few real words.

That sounds like a highly plausible explanation.

Want to have some intelligent dialogue (spellchecker be damned)?

I would enjoy some, thank you.

This has to be the most ambiguous leadup to the presidential primaries ever, no?  I have no idea who's going to come out for the Dems/GOP, and, for the first time, I believe an independent can win (but only if that independent is Michael Bloomberg).  And why, pray tell, isn't Al Gore running?

Gore is being a damn wuss; that's why.  I'm a little mad at him, frankly.  My vote is for Chris Dodd, at the moment.  The man actually has PLANS for how he wants to affect positive change, instead of vague ideals.

Of course, I can't vote...If I could, well...I'm not sure if I even would vote in the primary...too confusing.  I might wait until a candidate has won that.  And I would vote for Gore over anybody else...IF HE RAN!

What do you think about Bloomberg?

Isn't that a market analysis TV channel?

The man who named the channel...Michael Bloomberg, Independent Mayor of New York City.

An independent American?  :trout:

Good one.

What do you think about Bloomberg?

His website is highly uninformative.  I'm trying to find out his position on several issues that I find very important, and his "Issues" section only touts his victories as Mayor.  That's typical for a campaign site, of course, but it's still frustrating.  What I've seen thus far looks okay-ish (though I find it very odd that he was supposedly a "life-long" Democrat before running for Mayor on the Republican ticket), but I'll keep searching.

My searching has born fruit!  I like that he wants to legalize gay marriage and turn over all of NYC's cabs for hybrid cars, and it's interesting to read about his forgiving immigration policy.  I do not, however, enjoy seeing how many Republican Congressional candidates he's endorsed and funded, nor do I like the statements I read of his about the Iraq situation.

Thus far, I would have to say I would not vote for him.

He isn't my first choice either, but if I had to choose (for the main two) between Hillary and Giuliani, Bloomberg starts looking a lot better (as long as Gore refuses to run).

I'd choose Moving Out Of The Country or Revolution.

You know, a lot of us said that both in 2000 and 2004...it isn't going to happen.  As one opinion goes (which increasingly seems more intelligent), revolution is impossible in America.  Nothing would be bad enough to provoke Americans into revolution, and, if something did, the vast majority would have no idea what to do.

Funny thing is, it didn't.

^ Indeed.

As one opinion goes (which increasingly seems more intelligent), revolution is impossible in America.  Nothing would be bad enough to provoke Americans into revolution, and, if something did, the vast majority would have no idea what to do.

That's very unfortunate/pathetic, but also very true.  Mostly because it's true, I suppose.  Has anyone else here read the Executive Order (http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2007/07/20070717-3.html) George W. Bush signed recently?  The State Of Emergency hasn't been lifted since the aftermath of 9/11, so he's actually permitted to do things like this by law.

Quote
(A) threatening the peace or stability of Iraq or the Government of Iraq; or

(B) undermining efforts to promote economic reconstruction and political reform in Iraq or to provide humanitarian assistance to the Iraqi people

Anyone else horrified by the potential implications of the astoundingly vague language used to define those in violation of his policy?  This could, technically, be stretched to apply to protesters or those who write articles or books defaming the war or our foreign policies towards Iraq and the Middle East region.  Then what happens, you say?  They can stop your boss from paying you.  They can have the bank repossess your house.  Enjoy America, kiddos; Land of the Free.  I know I will.

WTF?  God, I can't wait for this to end.  I can't believe we've been in a state of emergency for over FIVE YEARS!  Can someone who actually carries some clout (not you, Sen. Kucinich) draft articles of impeachment, for America's sake?
