What about modern pirates then? Small, speedy civilian boats with MG's or recoilless anti tank rifles bolted on. Kinda like technicals on water.

This is stupid. Pirates have become far too glorified recently (curse you, Johnny Depp!), but anybody can see that pirates are jerks. They sail around, killing, looting or raping anything that gets in the way. Pirates are cool in the same way that mass murderers are cool.

Ninjas, however, have honour, integrity, all that stuff. They only kill when they need to, and they do it with style.  Also, being a ninja requires skill. I'd like to see one of you guys do all that fading into the shadows business, or sneak around in complete silence.

Several people on this thread have mentioned that pirate films are better than ninja films, which I agree with, as well as ninja games being more fun, which is true. But we aren't talking about aforementioned media glorifications, we're talking about the real deal. And the truth is, pirates are heartless bastards.

I rest my case.

There are no good pirate movies or video games. The only good pirate movie would be the Jonney Deep one. Ninjas do like kung-fu and stuff and then sneak around and make very fun video games. But pirates in real life are way more hardcore.

Say what? Kids these days, no knowledge of Monkey Island. Sheesh. Beats Double Dragon any day of the week. There are also a lot less pirate films out there because people understand that they just can't make movies cool enough. Not to mention that downloading stuff illegally is called pirating software.

As for Larry's point, pirates are cool for exactly that reason. Why are ninjas uncool then?

Man, I totally forgot about Monkey Island. Still, Guybrush isn't really a real pirate, he's just a nice guy with the wrong job. I stand by my original points.

He has exactly the right job. Speaking of games, though, the original Pirates!, High Seas Trader, Uncharted Waters all beat ninja games.

I've never played any of those. Then again, I don't think I've ever played a proper ninja game.

Anyway, we shouldn't be speaking of games. I fail to comprehend why everyone thinks pirates are so great. Given the choice, would you rather spend a year as a ninja or a year as a pirate?

A pirate for sure

you can get rich by being a pirate nowadays, especially on Malacca Straits. You may not even be able to feed yourself if you are a ninja!

Just to clarify, ninjas were/are assassins.  Were you thinking of samurai perhaps?

I'd be a ninja, because then I'd learn how to walk on water and turn invisible, which would help me when I'm sailing the Caribbean for the rest of my days.

I know they're basically assassins, but it doesn't mean they have no honour. They don't just go around killing people for fun. When I said "they kill when they need to", that includes being hired as assassins, as well as killing for personal reasons.

I'd be a ninja, because then I'd learn how to walk on water and turn invisible, which would help me when I'm sailing the Caribbean for the rest of my days.

Soly, I'm not sure ninjas are quite that skilled. Anyway, why would the pirating community allow a trained ninja into their midst?

Why not? Everyone'll think that I'm a clever pirate, because I can use my enemies' skills against them.

Pirates are, by far, the coolest and most sexy.  Ninjas seem deadlier, but I prefer the sense of style, flair, and material excess pirates exude with every waking breath.  If I was to spend a year among pirates or ninjas, I would choose pirates because I would actually have some fun once in a while.  Ninjas are so disciplined and strict, you'd never get the chance to party the way pirates indubitably do.

Also, if you want proof of my claims:

There is one feared on his time by the portuguese, in service of the Queen of England, there's a story on how he landed somewhere and destroyed every piece of art of the finest cleric quality. terrorists!
