Government
« on: January 06, 2007, 08:39:40 PM »
What shape will Taijituian Government take in the future? Will it be akin to the Lexicon in structure aside from founder controls or will we have more or fewer offices to be held. Governors? Directors? Senate? Army? Recruiting? Confederacy? Personally I long to see theabsolute right of democracy in Taijitu laid down in the charter. The reason the Lexicon has failed is because it isn't in their's.

Does someone know something I don't? I designed this so we could debate what structure we actually wanted.

Personally, I'd like a Republic.

Have alphabetical districts that elect one of their own from the district to be a senator.
Economic Left/Right: 9.65
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -4.37

Proud Constitutionalist

When the government fears the people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny.

Tyrants from Hitler to Mao to Stalin have sought to disarm their own citizens, for the simple reason that unarmed people are easier to control.

Yes, will we adopt a similair approach to that of the old native senate or with a more limited number of seats. Personally I would like there to be say 2o seats when we get larger and we have a form of vote where the top twenty form the senate.

Hibernia, a republic such as you envisage takes a LOT of active nations to make it work. All the regions I have known that have tried it have seen it fail through inactivity.

NS is ideally suited to Direct democracy, in a way that real life is not. Countries such as Britain and America have to have representative democracy. NS regions can have participation by all citizens, and offices held by people directly elected.

Well, if it's the structure of government that you are curious about then I'd take a look at the Constitution we're developing right now. It's on public display after all  ;)

And as it stands it will be Direct Democracy. Republic is a bit silly since as Flemingnovia notes there is no population to really be represented by representatives, just nations all about.

While I do think Governors may be added into the constitution, I don't think they should be legislative.

Will the senate have a greater role in politics than it did in the Lex?

The problem with the Senate was that it was more like a 'club' than a law-making body. Its main function was to admit other Senators and actual legislation was rarely voted upon except either to admit new senators or get rid of inactive ones.

That is why I would like to see more elected positions in this region so more people can participate.
Nobody of importance.

The lack of legislation is one reason I didn't join the Senate.  It didn't seem to offer much that I couldn't get as a citizen, except the chance to vote for Delegate.

That was enough for me. I don't like having too much power, on the chance that I'll cock it up.

Will the offices of directors be ingrained in the constitution or simply on a preference basis to the delegate?

I would like to see less apointed positions. Appointment for to many things isnt that great. And I think the Senate, or what ever it gets called should have the ability to cheak the Delegate and the Executive. The Executive has a vast amount of power in this system, I think more should be open to the people of the region and more power spread to them.
