An issue that stirred up on IRC, would anyone else than Amy and possibly Oz like to play D&D online?

Most likely 3.5E and all positions are still open for democratic purposes. Please pick the appropriate answers, "Cookies?" goes with every other answer. Combining "No" with a "Yes" will most likely confuzzle people, so please refrain from doing so.

Ask questions and all shall be revealed except bank PINs or whether or not it's butter.

The only MMOs that I will consider playing are WAR and AoC. DDO is for D&D nerds.

DDO?

This is about playing D&D over the internet, via forum and IM.

That's almost as nerdy as RPing as if acting.

I would love to, I have played some on P&P but not enough to know the rules for character creation.
Unfortunately this might be problematic due to not everyone having access to every IM service  and some only get one to work, I am one and I know PUR is another, on top of that, we can't get the same one to work...

EDIT: If it does work out I'll want an original mêlé character

Well, if someone is unfamiliar with the rules, checking out System Reference Documents wouldn't hurt. Of course, one shouldn't actually complete the character, because we're not yet certain on what level we're starting on and, depending on who's being the DM, what the setting is.

*looks up* Okay, so that's at least five we have. It'd be great if people could post their character ideas so a clearer image can be formed of the party structure. If you're unsure on how to make a character, either use the SRD link in this post or ask here.

PUR, what are the stats of an umbrella shield/spear/tool case and does it resemble what Setsuka has in Soul Calibur III?

And as a general comment preferably no extreme power-building, Pun-Puns and the like tend disrupt game balance.

Yours truly,
Whee!!!!

EDIT: Damn, forgot psionics completely. Ehh... they're listed as spellcasters. Pick that if you want to play a psionic class.

EDIT 2: The IM problem can be solved in many ways. First, there are a lot of IM programs out there. I mean a lot. Some of them are bound to work in one way or another. Second, there's always IRC, which I believe is accessable to everyone.

D&D is damn powergaming...but that mainly depends on the players. I would try it at least.
Hope there are good rules for demon conjurers/summoners/whyever they´re named....

Well, it can be really confusing if you just jump in, so I highly recommend you read the rules to give you some insight on how things work. All in all, it is quite friendly toward new players, but experience affects the swiftness of the gameplay.

And yes, I know there's quite a lot to read there. :-P

Alright then, watching usually helps learn how things work and if there's something obscure, there's nothing wrong in asking.

Also, a question to the players, does anyone object to starting at level 2?

Hmmm, perhaps I should just watch for now as well. I have little experience in these matters, due mainly to a lack of D&D nerds fans in my vicinity.
