The Downfall of the Kingdom
« on: February 23, 2007, 09:58:01 PM »
7:35pm in the capital:

The commander of the palace guards alarm the king: "Highness, you have to leave the country!"

The Supremo looks at the general from his desk: "Why?"

"Rebel forces and terrorists...everywhere!"

"Send in the army!"

"We can't. There is no more army!"

"What?! How can an army of hundreds of thousands of soldiers disappear?"

"Biological and chemical agents, I suppose. We only have about 6000 soldiers left and 450 palace guards."

"My family?"

"Is ready to leave and waiting for you, your Highness."

"Never have I expected this to end this way." The Supremo gets his personal belongings along with some servants and board a private is brought to a military air-base with his family. He then boards a government airplane guarded by 20 SU-37s. The military base and the Palace were the only facilities left in government control.

By 9:27pm, the Royal family has left Islas Filipinas along with its staff and officials. A small number of soldiers is also flown by military transport planes.

Meanwhile the enemy has taken total control of the country, making it sink into anarchy and chaos with districts ruled by different warlords... Only a small area around the Palace, the ancient city with walls around it, could remain under the control of people and soldiers loyal to the Monarchy.

*Kalxon sounds blaring in the background*
ALL PERSONNEL REPORT TO YOUR STATIONS.  THIS IS NOT A DRILL.  I REPEAT, ALL PERSONNELL REPORT TO YOUR STATIONS.

No one at the Islas Filipinas Base (OOC:  Offshore Bustian bases are named after host country) seem to really know what was happening or what was going on.  Just they were expecting the Supremo and his family along with their personal gaurd.  The base was located on the shore, at least hundreds of miles away from the nearest population center.  There were rumors of rebellion and chaos deeper in Islas Filipinas.  Guess the populace would take their oppression no longer.

Sailors were rushing preparing a small escort fleet for departure from the base for the Supremo and his family.  Airborne and Marines were arming themselves for any possible attack and the perimeter gaurds were tripled.  Blackhawks and Apaches scouted the area, keeping watch on the surrounding area.

"Sir, Islas Filipinas has collasped into a civil war."

"Took those rebels long enough," replied Chairperson Bustos as he looked upon his favorite view of the water from his office which took the entire top floor of the sky reaching scraper.  "Has Supremo accepted our offer of asylum?"

"It would appear so.  He and his family are enroute to the Islas Filipinas Base as we speak."

"And the Colonel knows his orders?"

"Yes, sir.  It's been confirmed."

The Boeing 747 of the Royal family along with its air-force escorts and 6 C.130s soon landed one after the other in the Bustian military base.
They had with them supplies and the treasures of the kingdom. Most though was in a foreign bank account.
The Supremo and his family stepped out of their plane; surrounded by heavily guarded palace guards and high officials.
They were awaiting the senior Bustian officer to speak to.

As of the moment only the Ginto claim was still under the firm grip of the Filipino military. Most military hardware from the motherland though has been taken over by well-prepared terrorist organizations.

The Republic of Jelsi sent a message to the leaders of the nation of Supremo, offering their military services to help them restore order to their nation.

Out of the midst of the Bustian military personnel bustling about, the Colonel, dressed in combat gear along with two armed escorts, greeted Supremo.  "Welcome to the Islas Filipinas Base.  *the Colonel extends his hand*  I am Colonel Trice, commander of the base.  Sorry we have to meet under these unfortunate circumstances.  My men will begin unloading your gear and transporting it all aboard the escort fleet.  For the time being we would like you and your family to get on the destroyer.  It is ready to depart at a moments notice, in case the rebels attempt to come after you."  Not that they will.

One of the top stories on the Italian News was the fall of the Supremo Government.  Prime Minister DiNapoli immediately called a meeting with her Cabinet to discuss the issue.

"Alright, we can't let these rebels harm these people.  We need to send some of our guys over there." said the Prime Minister.  The other cabinet members agreed, and at the end of the meeting, it was decided that they would send in special forces units to analyze the situation on the ground, collect information for possible air targets and bring peace to certain areas of the nation.

The 1st Marines Expeditionary Force was called up along with the 1st and 2nd Force Recon Companies.  The Special forces unit were to be the first on the ground.  Within minutes after the meeting was over, the two Force Recon Companies gathered their weapons, boarded the C-5 air craft and were on their way to what was left of supremo.

"I don't know why any government would be so idiotic, so numb-minded as to be oblivious that their entire population and most of their military had fallen under the jurisdiction of some anti-government rebels." said Peté Tar-Ilium during a meeting with his "associates".

"Well, you've got to keep in mind, sire, that this is the same government that allowed the Bustians a base on their land. And we all know what happens once those corporatocrats get a base on your land..." replied the Imperial Scribe.

"You've got a point there." Peté said with a chuckle.

"I suppose the best thing to do would to hold back our forces and let them fight their own revolution. Who knows, maybe the Bustians will give us a plot of land if we give lavish praise for their 'work in bringing peace to Supremo' and whatnot."

"Great idea, sir."
"I assure you -- I will be quite content to be a mere mortal again, dedicated to my own amusements."

The 1st Marine Expeditionary Force's departure had been canceled, leaving the Marines Special Forces Group (Force Recon) to gather intelligence, and analyze the current situation.

The large door dropped down, allowing the night sky to peak into the C-5.  The 200 members of Force Recon were fully equipped, with their weapons attached properly, and their parachutes all folded correctly and ready to be used.  Two other C-5 aircraft followed closely behind with the Humvees that would be dropped.  Before long there would be numerous helicopters transported to the area as well to provide support as well.  One after the other, the Marines jumped out of the airplane and parachuted to a desolate area near one of the larger cities of Supremo.  Their current mission was to setup a headquarters that was far away from any of the fighting.

Once on the ground, the two Companies would setup a perimeter as the humvees landed as well.  Once on the ground, the base camp would be setup and the Marines would await their orders.

A platoon of the 1st Recon Company was ordered to infiltrate the city close to their location.  Setup in the Humvees, the Marines traveled west towards the city, and drove into an abandoned section of the city.  One man was left inside of each Humvee, and drove the vehicles back to headquarters.  The platoon would be stationed in the abandoned section for a large period of time, with occasional food drops sent to them at night.  Setting up in an abandoned building, the men found the headquarters of a local Warlord who was attempting to bring a dominance over the location.  The men continued to watch the rebels, making sure to keep themselves hidden, after all that's what Force Recon was best at.

Supremo and his family borded the destroyer, the flagship of the small escort fleet.  Other members of the Islas military were either helping out in loading the escort fleet with their possessions or boarding the other ships.

Faint sounds of explosions could be heard coming from the horizion since the bustling of soldiers had been reduced and the alarm had ceased.  Everyone was in their position, awaiting further orders, keeping their gaurd up.  Aerial scouts reported what appeared to be a small disorganized convoy coming towards the base.  They were given a warning to turn back but failed to do so.  Two Apaches were called in and fired warning shots.  They showed no signs of slowing down or turning around, forcing the Apaches to deal lethal force to the front two vehicles, creating smoking, burning roadblocks.  Only then did the convoy turn around and return back from whence they came.  Other than that, there were no incidents or further intrusions.

After escorting Supremo and his family aboard, Colonel Trice returned to CP (Command Post) One to review the progress of the escort's fleet readiness.  He called in Commander Nala to personally hand her specific written orders for ship formation of her fleet.  Commander Nala reviewed the deployment and offered a better setup.  The Colonel denied her alterations and noted her objections to the record.

"With all due respect, Colonel, are you sure about this?" asked the commander.

"Yes, Commander.  I did not even make the ship formation.  I am merely relaying orders from JMCC."

Normally a ground commander could not order a fleet commander on the specifics of the fleet's ship formation however, Colonel Trice was given special authority in this crisis from the JMCC.  Commander Nala knew this too and with her objections noted and alterations denied, she accepted the written orders.

"Good luck, Commander," Colonel Trice said.

"You know me better than that, Colonel," replied Commader Nala with a smile.  "I dont believe in luck."

If you say so.

As the morning sun begun to rise, the final preparations for departure were occuring aboard transport ships carrying the treasures of the former Islas Filipinas.

"How much longer till the transports are underway?" asked Commander Nala.

"They should be leaving port in about a hour, Commnader," replied her first officer.

"Very good.  Keep me posted."

"I'll take it through here."

"Aye, sir.  This'll take a moment."  A dead silence came from the other end.  A short burst of static and then someone on the other end began to speak.

"Am I speaking to Colonel Trice?"

"This is he."

"The evening sun shines brightly in the water."

"Not as bright as the stars in the sky."

"How have you been Colonel?" the voice on the other end asked causally.

"Good.  Did you get the last supply drop okay?  We never received confirmation."

"Yes, we got it, alright.  We've had some unexpected developments which have kept me rather busy.  I am calling to get an update on when we can expect reinforcements."

"We'll be moving out by midday tomorrow.  Will your people be aware of our arrangement by then?"

"Yes, Colonel.  They will be expecting you.  Hold on a second."  A brief pause.  "Got to go now."

"Bye."  Click.

"We have a firing solution, Captain."

"Fire sequence Omega," replied the Captain of the ASS Silent Death.

"Aye, Fire sequence Omega, ma'am," replied her first officer, a lieutenant as he relayed orders to the firing room.

The Captain paused, taking a moment to think.  Clear line of fire from this angle.  Twenty-two missile salvo.  Escape route Alpha heading ready.  Ok.

"Fire in Omega sequence," ordered the Captain.

"Aye, firing in Omega sequence."

Barely audible to the crew, one by one, twenty-two tomahawk missiles fired from their VLTs.

First of twenty-two tomahawk missiles fired.

"HOW MANY INCOMINGS?!" Commander Nala balked when first hearing the number.

"Twelve confirmed missiles inbound, ma'am," replied the ensign over looking the radar.  "Possibly more, they keep falling in and out of radar detection."

"Make sure all anti-missile weapons are online!"

"Commander!  I've projected their course.  They have a clear course, straight for the destroyer..."

"Supremo, shit!" interuptted the commander.  Twelve, possibly more, separate missiles for one ship.  Somebody wants Supremo dead.  No way we going to stop them all.  "Inform the captain to prepare for impact and to secure Supremo and his family to the safest part of his ship, away from the incomings now."  Commander Nala slammed her fist on a nearby table.  Someone is going to answer for making me choose this ship formation!!

Of the twenty-two missiles, ten were shot down, four went astray by decoys, and the remaining eight missiles struck the destroyer.  Of the 350 people aboard, only 38 survived and only the wife of Supremo's son survived of Supremo's family.  With that, Operation Silent Revolution ended.

Operation Red Meat had commenced as a motorized brigade rolled out of Islas Filipinas Base during the night.  Their destination?  Nearby former Islas Filipinas animal farms of cows, pigs, and poultry (OOC: Resources that were picked by Supremo before leaving the RP).  The motorized brigade is meeting up with rebels that had seized the farms as previously agreed with Colonel Trice, in exchange for the weapons, munitions, and logsitic support he had been secretly supplying.  Once the handover of the farms is complete, the construction of an agricultural colony will begin.

A new poster, from a completely unknown source, began appearing in Gallipoli-China's cities, even obscuring the government's propaganda, both from the Parliament and the Council.  It featured what could only be a caricature of Supremo, his crown askew, lying on the ground with a large Gold (I hope it looks like a dollar sign) sticking out of his back.  In the background a red dawn was obscured by black clouds.  It was captioned "Bustian Freedom" in Dorian, Moorish, and Chinese.

This had been the last straw for the Gallipoli-Chinese; first Eire, then the DSA, then Eluvatar, then Myroria and Ryazania, and now this?  Their government had a dismal record protecting their nation's interests abroad, and they'd managed by their ineptitude to allow a Bustian colony on their doorstep.  This couldn't last.

OOC: no, I'm not hijacking the thread, this is to provide background for what happens next in my nation.

OOC: @GC, check the OOC thread.  I am ignoring the fact that any nation is aware of Supremo's death at the moment.  Nor do I intend to have anyone ever find out that the Allied States were behind any of this.

"Coffee, sir?" asked the aide as he poked his head into the Chairperson's office.

"Huh?  Oh yes.  That's be great, thanks," the Chairperson responded, caught slightly off-gaurd having been looking out his window, almost daydreaming, for the past few moments out into the starless sky.  "Caffiene is something I certainly could use."

"One sugar, one crea...," the aide stopped abruptly as a uniformed Bustian naval officer showed up with two armed escorts.

"Mr. Chairperson, I have a report that is to be delivered straight to you, sir," said the naval officer without concern for any possible interupption.

"Thank you, Captain," and the Chairperson signed the release and transfer of property forms.

The folder, entirely sealed, was a simple plain manilla envelope with no hint of its contents.  However, this was not the first plain manilla envelope he had recieved that was delivered by a military officer, with armed escorts.

"Thank you for the coffee, Matthew," and with that, Matthew understood and left his office.

Inside the envelope was sealed folder.

OOC: who said anything about death?  Supremo, as head of state, is a symbol for his country, and it's kind of hard not to notice a military intervention in a neighboring country.
