[IN QUEUE] Repeal "Organ and Blood Donations Act"
« on: January 06, 2012, 03:28:41 PM »
Description: WA General Assembly Resolution #175: Organ and Blood Donations Act (Category: Social Justice; Strength: Significant) shall be struck out and rendered null and void.

Argument: Acknowledging the principles this resolution asks us to observe and admiring its intentions,

Noting that while blood transfusions to incompatible donors aren't common, they are sometimes needed when compatible blood is unavailable,

Further noting that the resolution bars usage of any infected or diseased organs, without regard for the health of a patient to whom a chronic disease is preferable to death,

Noting that the health risks this resolution prevents are often much less severe than health risks associated with fatal blood loss or organ failure,

Regretting that the narrowness of the resolution blocks reasonable medical care as provided by medical professionals,

Hereby repeals "Organ and Blood Donation Act".

Against. The amount of people this repeal would protect by giving diseased organs and blood is minuscule compared to the amount of people the previous resolution helps by preventing the accidental implantation of diseased organs.
