Canadian-Templarios Conference
« on: January 02, 2008, 12:02:55 AM »
Xavier Rommel walked through his house. The house was beautiful and quaint, not as grand as the palace. He rather liked his house. It was quiet in this part of Ottawa and the Victorian style house gave off a aura of a era gone and past. The chef had made a meal for him and the ambassador from the Templarios embassy. The house ahd been cleaned for the arrival of the ambassador. Rommel sat down in his chair in the living room. On the wall of the room were various pictures. Some were pictures of Rommel and his family. One was a photo of him and Lieutenant-Colonel Paul Stone from Barakarin. Others were pictures of him when he was a soldier. The fireplace had its fire going. He looked at his watch. The ambassador should be arriving soon. A guard dressed in their blue uniform walked in. "Your Excellency, the ambassador from Templarios is here." Rommel nodded. "Let them in."

“Colonel James Fitroy” announced the guard as he opened the two large doors. In walked a well build man who quickly scanned the room and then smiled at Xavier. “Mr Rommel,” he said as he put out this hand; “what a lovely place you have here, very pleased to meet you.”
“Colonel Fitroy, the pleasure is all mine. Have a seat” as Xavier gestured to a chair by the fire.
“Thank you and please call me James. Im an ex-colonel now, a civil servant in the diplomatic core. My soldiering days are long gone now. “
As James Fitroy sat down a servant brought in some port and poured two glasses.
“Port?” asked Xavier.
“Yes please” replied James. “Anyway, we better get down to business as I know you are a very busy man….”

As the two men sipped their drinks, Rommel pulled out a folder. He opened the folder and in it was a piece of paper. "Well to begin, my country wishes to have a bilateral treaty between each other. One is a treaty for mutual assistance in the event of war and the other is a full trade alliance. The Greater Canadian Empire hopes to become a close ally with your benevolent nation. Here, you can look them over and add anything you want." As James read the documents, Xavier sipped his liquor. Xavier could smell dinner being made.

“Hmmmm” said James thoughtfully, “so, what does this entail for us? You do understand that there are some concerns from other nations that my nation is a member of AC, yet the nation you represent is a PI member. Any military treaty would have to include a clause which would allow us to respond to treats towards members of the AC from any other organisation including the PI. Im sorry to start like this but I feel I must be frank from the beginning.”

"I understand. In our country, the nation's interests come before PI's interests. If the same is true in your nation, then we won't have a problem. But just between us, the Canadian General Staff have created Offense Schemes for just about every nation in Taijitu, even our own allies. You know, what if scenarios."

"Wonderful, I'm glad we understand each other. Now, shall we start with the economic treaty first?"

Sitting back, James continued: "Being a God fearing nation, we are very sensitive about our world image and the image of that of the Church so certain aspects of trade such as uncontrolled arms trade and the use of any materials that does not fit with the aims, or goals or  sympathies of the church and state are meant to be prohibited by i think we can work around that minor problem."

Pausing to collect his thoughts and let Xavier take in what he had just said, he continued; "Now, what kind of trade agreement are we talking about here? We would like to reserve the right, as I'm sure you want to as well, of imposing extra tax on certain imported goods so to better protect our nations economy and industries over foreign investment at lower prices."

Xavier nodded. "Well, the Canadian government was thinking more along the lines of economic trade, not arms trade. Since your nation is an island, we were thinking that you may need lumber, natural gas, oil, steel, perhaps even barley, wheat, beef and other food products. But is there anything specific that you might need or want. You would know more about your economic status then we would."

"Yer, an economic trade is more suitable for us but also being an island we don't know want to be tied to one supplier for certain goods. Lumber we have plenty of from the mountains which will last my country forever using our sustainable forestry plan. What we do need is food products that are not easy to grow in our hardy climate. We can grow barley and wheat plus beef and lamb but on the more delicate animals and plants we have problems. Could you help us in this?"

"Oil and natural gas, but that would solely be to the government as we are stockpiling that to last for 5 years in case of an emergency."

"Apart from that, i'm guessing we leave it down to the individual companies about they want to import from your."

"Now, what would you like from us?"

"Yes, we can give you food products from the more delicate plants and animals. Now what do we want from you? Well, we have become interested in your shipbuilding. The Canadian government is willing to trade food products for civilian and military ship parts."

"We would like to know what you would want to use these military ship parts only for your ships or would they be sold on to other foreign nations?"

*Beep, Beep*

James looks at this Blackbury and pause. "Ive just had news that you are having internal problems, do you want to discuss this?"

"No, we would use it for parts on our own ships. The internal problems is a civil war in the Kingdom of Acadia to the east. The southern half of Acadia has fallen to the rebels, will except the coast. Small detachments of Canadian Naval Infantry and Acadian soldiers are holding off rebels on the coast. But to the north, the city of Saintonge has become a massive war-zone. The city is held by rebel forces, while the Canadian Army and the Acadian Army are fighting from the outskirst of the city. This has gotten out of control."

"The use for your own ships, is that an understanding or part of the treaty?"

"We also are deeply sorry about your internal problems and our nation is willing to offer assistance to the people of both your country and any civilians in the rebel area. We do wish to distance our-self from any formal government position on this topic as we feel, for the time being, it to be an internal issue."

OOC: We sign the treaties and end with them going to have dinner.

"We understand. Getting to the civilians in the rebel-controlled areas will be impossible. We may need medical supplies." Xavier heard the bell. He took out a pen and signed the treaties and handed them to James. "Oh, you are going to love dinner. Smoked salmon with green beans and fried rice. A Canadian delicacy."

The signed below agree to a full trade alliance. This includes, but is not an exhaustive list, lumber, natural gas, oil, steel, barley, wheat, beef and other food products.
