Elections Called for Chancellery

From top to bottom, left to right: Candidates Blamange, Al Kassad, John & Limitless Events

12 September, 2007
Francograd, The Pacific-

Elections were called on Tuesday after former Chancellor Laws and Bylaws's appointment as Commandant of the Praetorian Guard left a vacancy in the Imperial Chancellery. This marks the first elections since the March Elections in the People's Republic of The Pacific nearly two years ago.So far four candidates have thrown their hats into the ring, current incumbents Blamange and Al Kassad and newcomers John and Limitless Events.

The three chancellors will be responsible for recruitment and telegram campaigns, maintaining economic activity in the Old Financial District, creating and implementing a regional budget, forming legislation pertinent to internal affairs, and controlling the spam on the RMB. In the three weeks since its creation, the Chancellery has already begun conducting a regional census, writing a pension bill for the Pacific Army, and rebuilding the Pacifican economy.

Each candidate is required to post their election manifesto and upon accepting their nomination they are given a sum of 1,000 Francos ($5,000 USD) to finance their campaigns. Citizens are permitted to donate to individual campaigns without limit. The biggest contributor thus far has been Senator "Warbucks" Karpathos who recently donated 10,000 Francos ($50,000 USD) to Limitless Events.

Trooper John, a candidate, said in his manifesto
Quote
If you wish me to serve, please be aware that I believe that the position of Chancellor is one of Service, with a capital S! I would do all I can to be available, helpful and serve my fellow Citizens to make our mutual experience here more fun. I mean after all, is that not why we are here?

I do not know what may be required as Chancellor, but rest assured I will perform such duties to the best of my ability, and relay the feelings and opinions of my fellow Citizens to the Hallowed Halls of Pacifican Government.

A special election comission consisting of several outside commissioners is expected to be formed to help count the ballots and ensure that the election runs smoothly. The September General Election is scheduled for two weeks from Friday.
