The following is a history of the world until 2109, the major events between now and then.
2007 - 2010
January 2009 - the new President withdraws forces from Iraq, allowing the civil war to escalate.
September 2009 - A vaccine for AIDS is found. It dents the figures, but AIDS remains a pandemic.
May 2010 - Iran develops a nuclear bomb and ignores the resolutions by the UN to force it to destroy them. Iran nukes Israel. Israel reveals it does have a nuclear arsenal and nukes Iran back. The war ends before any serious damage is done, but radiation levels in Israel, the northeastern Sinai Peninsula, and Iran are elevated in comparison to the rest of he world.
December 2010 - A cure for AIDS is found. Enormous funding towards sending it to Africa eradicates it in all but the most remote parts.
2011-2050
April 2018 - AIDS is declared eradicated in Europe, North America, and South America.
2018 - 2040 - Things remain mostly quiet in the geopolitical world. A terrorist attack in London in 2034 kills 1,253.
February 2042 - August 2042 - The Minor Oil Crisis. Oil begins to run out in the Middle East; Russia digs into its unearthed oil fields and temporarily solves the crisis, but not before Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Kuwait withdraw from the UN.
Sometime in 2049 - The religion of Zoroastrianism dies after increased conversion rates.
2051 - 2070
May 2051 - A probe to Europa discovers microbial life in the sea beneath the frozen surface. The largest extraterrestrial organism discovered there is a small species of fish, looking similar to minnow.
October 2056 - The first deep space vessel in the history of man is constructed. Its destination is Jupiter and the Galilean moons to search for other signs of life.
October 23, 2056 - Sergei Chomsky is born in Russia, and is the baby that increases the world population to nine billion.
November 2058 - Far outliving its lifespan, the Hubble Space Telescope is brought back to Earth by a descendent of the Space Shuttle designed to carry specifically payloads not long after catching a direct series of pictures of Epsilon Eridani b. It is put into the Smithsonian Institution.
March 2059 - Northern Ireland joins Ireland. The transition is mostly peaceful, because the current British government does not want another IRA.
July 2065 - Scotland secedes from the UK. The remainder becomes the Kingdom of England and Wales, and Scotland becomes the Kingdom of Scotland.
2071-2109
June 2071 - AIDS is declared eradicated in Asia and Oceania. Oceania, which never had much of an AIDS problem, was chosen to be near the bottom of the list for vaccine preference.
September 2075 - AIDS in Africa is declared eradicated, thus ending it over the entire world. It becomes the third disease to ever be eradicated, after smallpox and polio.
February 2078 - After long planning, the ESA and NASA decide to collaborate on building a generation ship designed to colonize Epsilon Eridani b, after it is discovered by a probe far faster than the Juneflower that it does not have intelligent life on it. This seems to be the last hope of helping overpopulation on Earth, who's population has already reached 12 billion and continues to rise with the extinction of AIDS.
March 2080 - The United States forcibly annexes Canada, becoming the largest nation on Earth. The president, variously described as a "madman" and a "dictator", becomes a target of assassins everywhere.
January 2088 - The new President withdraws from Canada, saying he is "deeply sorry" for his predecessors actions. Members of Congress are dismissed left and right for corruption.
January 2088 - The first deep space vessel ever constructed returns to Earth, becoming the longest-lasting human inhabited spacecraft to date.
February 2101 - On the anniversary of the construction of the Jupiter Deep Space Craft, the Juneflower's construction begins.
March 2109 - The Juneflower finishes construction.
August 2109 - The Juneflower begins its journey.
