EXTRA: The Exodus News Service

Issue I

26th-December-07

Christmas

The Exodus would like to send you a belated Merry Christmas. We all hope that the New Year will hold much for your region and NationStates itself. The Exodus has got in to the Christmas spirit this year by having the white Christmas on our forum (the snow) and by having a few seasonal discussions. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.

Updates

Under initiatives by the new Minister of Foreign Relations, our updates are undergoing a change. They will now be sent out fortnightly, with a special edition of article based updates (such as this one) sent out on the first of every month (starting February.) EXTRA: The Exodus News Service hopes to build up a range of articles over each month including interviews and some real world issues that we have a strong opinion on.

Population and UN Delegate

Our population had a sharp drop, but has now evened out at around the 50's after some new initiatives in recruiting were began. At this point in time we are looking to consolidate what we have, rather than attempt to increase our population as recruiting will be especially trying over the next week or two in the Christmas break. Our UN delegate, Dr Pepper, has remained ever active, despite The Exodus not being a pro-active force in the UN. There have been no contests to his position in the last few months and none are expected. Although many ministerial positions remain open, mainly minor ones, our view of the UN delegate has not changed and the position is still removed from the official government of The Exodus.

Regional Progression

An impressive acquirement to our government has been seen in the replacement Secretary of State; Ticking Citrus, who has long been a part of The Exodus, either by his own whim or as an ambassador. His influence has been shown in a resurgence of governmental discussion in the ThinkTank and some endeavours to improve the administration of our board. Other changes have been the replacement of Transcendant Pilgrims as UN delegate to Dr Pepper has has already been recounted, as well as the loss of Tacticurn and Paylor from our government, which leaves both the Regional Assembly positions open. Oodge has taken up the position of Minister of Foreign Relations.

The main degradation of The Exodus of late is in accordance with what has been seen throughout the rest of NationStates, we have enough dedicated, active players who are willing to take up positions, but simply can not find the populace to fill up our Regional Assembly, which has left our base government wavering and also, unfortunately, reduces the level of democratic tradition we were once able to enjoy. With the American Winter approaching, and supposed edits to the game of NationStates planned (written by max barry himself), as well as the production of movies of Max Barry's books we all hope that NationStates can once again begin to increase it's numbers, so we can all enjoy the game more. These days it feels more like work than play.

Future

The Future of The Exodus is reliant on our Regional Assembly. This Assembly must once again be filled with nations who are free to voice their opinions so that we can get back in to what we enjoy most, our festivals. The Peace Festival, The October Art Festival and The LGBT Festival are all celebrations of The Exodus and our allies. Once the new year has come, and our internal ministry is ready, we hope to go recruiting with our full force.

Founder: The All Inclusive Lands of The Avenging Angels

Regional Power: Very High

The Exodus contains 50 nations.

News:

-A review of the almost defunct Regional Assembly has began to attempt to cure it of the slow system and the inability to organise a Speaker. The Regional Assembly was constructed when the Constitution was reformed around six months ago, and although it had a strong start, it has become the most pressing of The Exodus' concerns. The review is expected to be completed and its findings decided upon in the next few days.

-Plans are now being made for the fourth Peace Festival. The Exodus multi-regional Peace Festivals have in the past brought much activity and some extraordinary topics and conversations to our forums. Once again we hope to celebrate (calming) art, (peaceful) writing and to once again project an image of unity upon the NationStates world. Any nations interested in participating in the management of the festival are welcome, and should jump on board as soon as they can. Currently, the Peace Festival is to occur in the first week of February, so you haven't got long to wait!

-In other news, Leaf has procured some new anime! Some members of the region are eagerly awaiting his verdict on them, and he promises to tell them all soon, others aren't so eager... :P

The Exodus Inter-Regional Peace Festival

A Peace Festival is not an original idea, in fact this one is to be the fourth that The Exodus has held, but it is still a tradition that is rarely found throughout the NationStates world. Even regions that are dedicated to peace do not have inter-regional celebrations concerning this. The Exodus has always provided itself on its diversity and originality, and the Peace Festival has always been an expression of this unique flair that we all feel. The Peace Festival has just been opened today and will run until this time next week. During the week we hope to achieve a few things; these are a mixture of things that we hope will serve ourselves, of course, as we do them for our own sake as a region, but also to serve NationStates as a whole. We hope to at least start the motions of a UN proposal to increase levels of peace throughout the NationStates world, we hope to increase activity on our own forum and to have a resurgence in regional pride, we hope to have a resurgence in communications between us and you, our allies. Finally we hope to use it as a springboard for our other projects, after all, success breeds success.

If you wish to take part in the festival, please visit us here: http://z6.invisionfree.com/TheExodus/index.php?showforum=89
The planning process never stops in a festival such as this so if you want to help out with the running of the festival please visit this topic: http://z6.invisionfree.com/TheExodus/index.php?showforum=95

The Obama/Clinton Ticket

The major political discussion over the past month has been over the Presidential election in the USA and has been mainly concerned with immigration, race and, as has the news, Clinton and Obama. Such issues that have come up have been concerning the Senate vote to make English the official language. The Democrats voted against this bill and some of our members have endorsed comments by Colonel Harry Riley who said that the rejection of the Bill "reflects [upon the Senators] betrayal, political surrender, violates your pledge of allegiance, dishonors historical principle, rejects patriotism, borders on traitorous action and, in my opinion, makes you unfit to serve as a United States Senator... impeachment, recall, or other appropriate action is warranted." This has been argued against within our forum for inhibiting people's liberties. It is recounted that there is already discrimination against those who won't or can't speak English, and the Bill would have just made that stronger.

There has also been talk of the rights of Native Indians, as we have a proud couple of 'em here, but no political context was used against either Democrats or Republicans.

In Other News

- The Regional Assembly Review has been completed and commended by the Founder, Avolon. Once a suitable time is found, the steps suggested to improve it are expected to be enacted.

- Leaf was much impressed by the 90's anime "Tenchi Muyo: Ryo-Ohki Vol 1."

"You can really tell they produced this series on a computer, the color and lines are strong and bright, the animation is smooth, and the voice acting is top notch and clear as a bell...thank god for computers, I dont think I could have taken another one of those 90's animes with some hero named GUI DIGOUCHI screaming about justice and honor from his giant robot as the animation gets recycled over and over again!"

World Factbook Entry:
"If liberty and equality, as is thought by some, are chiefly to be found in democracy, they will be best attained when all persons alike share in the government to the utmost." Aristotle

Ministers:
Founder (Position): Avolon
Secretary of State: Ticking Citrus
Minister of Internal Affairs: Ds Rainbow Phoenix
Chief Justice: Time-splitter
Minister of Foreign Relations: Oodge
Regional Speaker: Currently being elected
Deputy Regional Speaker: Currently being elected

UN Delegate: The Imperial Guard of Gray Army (elected 12 days ago).

Founder: The All Inclusive Lands of The Avenging Angels

Regional Power: Very High

The Exodus contains 49 nations.

News:

-The Regional Assembly has at last blown away the cob-webs! In a slightly illegal fashion Oodge bypassed Avolon, The Founder, and began to enforce the Regional Assembly Review by ejecting a total of 10 members inactive members from the assembly and starting a vote on Constitutional changes. After just a few days the vote concluded at 3 Ayes, 1 Nay and 3 Abstains, leaving just one member who did not vote, and resulting in the passing of the proposed Constitutional changes, however some of the electoral clauses concerning the Regional Assembly Speaker have been a worry for some.

The nomination phase for the Regional Assembly Speaker end today, the candidates are: Oodge, Leaf and Timesplitter.

The RA has also reached 10+ members, meaning that the position of Deputy Regional Speaker is to be elected too. We use the preferential voting system so the candidate that achieves the second highest amount of votes is elected Deputy.

-Success! MintyMints has successfully achieved the position of Deputy Minister of Foreign Relations, leaving only the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs available.

-Gray Army has successfully replaced Drpep has UN Delegate. He currently holds 9 endorsements out of 14 UN nations in The Exodus.

-The Peace Festival came to a slow halt after a week of renewed vigour and fun in the region. The Peace Festival is destined to return for the milestone fifth early next year or thereabouts. We hope so anyway.
