Skype VS TeamSpeak

So, one of the things I've said I'd do as Citizen-Liaison is set up Skype Chats.  I think they're a better way to communicate than IRC for many, many reasons.  However, it has recently been brought to my attention that some Taijituans (Taiji if you prefer ) would actually prefer to use the popular voice service TeamSpeak for chats for multiple reasons.  And due to DEMOCRACY, I've decided to make a referenda on the subject.

In case you're wondering, here are some pros and cons to Skype and TeamSpeak.

Skype Pros
- Easier to Manage
- Face-Chat (Can be Turned Off if You'd Like)
- More Flexible
- More People Use Skype

TeamSpeak Pros
- No Face-Chat
- Always-On (Could be Con)
- Easier Push-to-Talk

Oh, I'm quite happy with just utilizing the IRC channel. I refuse to Skype and am leary of Teamspeak.

The pros list is a bit biased. Teamspeak is easier to manage on a community level, with the ability to kick and mute people who are being obnoxious. Also teamspeak requires no account to be registered so I don't know why you think it's less flexible than skype. Sure maybe more people are on skype than teamspeak, but teamspeak is a very lean program to download that doesn't require login information, and it also has no ads.

What's wrong with it always being on? We all have busy schedules, so we're on when we're on.

Also I'm in favor of a possible no to either option, because everyone can make their own taijitu groups on skype if they want to, just like how we have a taijitu steam group. Also if we make it official, then it might be used for some sort of witch hunt to prove if someone is a woman or not. I don't want the possibility of users to be pressured with that, if they are or not, it's none of our god damned business. I also don't want to pressure our users into thinking they have to engage in facechat/audiochat with these scheduled group chats. 

The problem with your idea here is it feels like forced social interaction. Most of us are older than 18-21, and we'd rather just sit on our ass with a nice big cold brew or glass of wine after a long day. Then send links of dumb shit to each other or play minecraft with each other or play dnd or whatever. We don't need more scheduled shit in our lives. If we were to have some voice interaction, then I think teamspeak would be the most effective. It's that sort of thing where you just join on your own time, you can log off whenever you want to, and you can log into your skype account without being bothered to join in on voice chat from the taijitu group.

The interactions with people on teamspeak, in my experience, have been more natural than on group chats with skype. Let's summarize then. You don't have to worry about switching from your personal account to a second account, you don't have to manage a group of friends with everyone in the group, you don't have to worry about hearing all the white noise from other people on skype, you don't have to worry about your microphone broadcasting to a group of people things you don't want to be broadcasted, you don't have to worry about logging into accounts, you don't have to deal with ads, and you don't have to be called every so often on your phone by the taijitu group.

However, teamspeak on the taijitu server could be taxing to the server (possibly, I don't know the details of Elu's server situation). If he says no, then that's fine, we probably don't need to voice chat, but I still wouldn't want to have a scheduled skype taijitu group.

Oh, I see your point!  Skype and TeamSpeak are two completely different beasts.

Skype is for formal, scheduled chats where everyone attends and everyone talks about a specific subject or "thing."  It's for meetings, formal debates, conversations, etc.

TeamSpeak would be a voice version of IRC.  You join when you want, talk about whatever, and when you get bored, you leave.  It wouldn't be used for any formal occasions whatsoever; it would just exist and stay.

I'm may take down this poll soon, because I now realize why you can't just have either Skype or TeamSpeak.  You need both, because each has its own different case scenarios.

I'm quite happy with IRC but I do love using Teamspeak. It's great for when you're playing a game because you can speak without interrupting the game. I used it all the time with my Halo clan. Unfortunately you can't keep a log of verbal communication.
