MAP POLL: NEW IDEA
« on: November 21, 2015, 07:50:40 AM »
Set to show votes to see if anyone is fuckin' lying about liking RP.

Will consider all votes, just some more than others.

I've always hated all the empty vague space on the map, so instead of just having green space, I thought about having two maps, a request map, much like the one we have now. It would be a list of all the player nations an their locations. The second map though would be the "actual" map of Taijitu, where I populate the map with random national borders and names of my choosing. We'd use the "actual" map for RP, but at any time it can change so that at any time a new RPer/player can claim any land they would desire.

How I imagined it, anybody can assume the role of an NPC nation, make a culture, government, economy, whatever. I believe this will make quick-rps more interesting and add some depth/impressiveness to our worldbuilding/rp. Right now we just have our nations responding to international issues, but how would it react with knowing the 180 other nations or so that could population Taijitu? HUH!?

Anyway, I want to know what you think

You have trouble with 1 map and you want to make 2?

This is a brilliant idea! All that blank space makes sense for claims but like zero sense for a living world. I thoroughly support this. First thought was, "FUCK YEA!".

Can I have a crapton of colonial space on the filled map? Want help with NPC naming? Do you think adding this layer to your working file will take long? Will you edit them both at the same time or separately?

The naming might be the most excruciating part, I'll probably need help with that or else all the countries will be schlocky fantasy names

I'm a bit confused.  Can you walk me through an example of using both maps?

So basically, we're allowed to RP multiple nations on Map 2?  Who decides who gets to RP the NPCs?  How do u assure NPCs are being RP'd out w/o favoring their main nation?  I like where you're going but I think this concept is more time/effort than people are going to put into it.  We're not active enough to handle the ONE nation we already have, how do are we going to be active enough to handle the NPCs?

Why would anyone bother with map 1?  Just pick a spot then never pay attention to it again.  Seems like a waste of your time.

As for NPC names, I'd just use a random country name generator and go from there.

I'm not following...

I could be wrong but...

I believe map 2, will have no empty spots like our current map does.  Each "space" will have a nation there.  In some of those spaces will be our "main" nation.  The rest will be nations no one controls, the NPCs.  If a new nation wants to join, they take one of the NPC spaces.

Now...to make things "more fun and to stir the pot", a RPer can opt to take control of a NPC nation, giving it the world build work up and etc (so u can play a diff type nation if u so desired) and affect the main nations of others or even their own.

An example could be, you are committing genocide against an ethnic grp, another RPer could opt to take control of one of the NPCs that is a neighbor of yours (provided they make a proper world build make up) and then threaten sanctions/invasion on ur main.  Why?  so they dont have to get their main involved in a war they dun want to or simple cuz their main is on the other side of the world and dun want to deal with logistics, or simply for shits n giggles.

Another possibility is someone running a NPC to commit genocide against another NPC then draw main nations into the conflict.  There are several ways to go about it with map 2's concept.

Map 1 is much like our current map but has nothing to do with the RP...its just there.  Why?  I dont know.

You are largely correct with statements on Map 2, Map 1 though you would see as the map of main RP nations sans NPCs to show where you can claim a spot. Hell I'd even suggest porting over the national boundaries of Map 2 to show roughly how large logical claims would be. So to clarify, Map 1 = where you claim a spot, Map 2 = full of NPC nations for greater realism and potential for conflict building.

Obviously there's going to have to be some rules about how people control these NPC nations, the first especially being that the NPC nation is not going to be a catalyst for some expansion plot to get more land.

Other thing to clear up, I'm not going to make this into a pre-destined spot thing, requests can come at any shape, size, whatever. Obviously I'm not going to care as much when a 5 post-user will say I WANT THIS SPOT HERE COOL?then never log on again, so then I'll probably just replace their nation with something already there.

I am not quite shure what this means.

I am currently trying to finish my Lindisfarne map so that it can be included properly. This map will have several spin-offs with national information. Once this is finished, i will have more time to spend on RP, but before I have my basics in place, RP becomes pretty pointless.

I agree that there should be nations filling the empty spaces even though there are not enough players yet. This is the reason i proposed the old "Rmpire" Which could be something we all could shape into something that can later be divided into new nations as the revolution spreads (for instance).

Any time you can give me some feedback Oz, I would love to expand on my ideas of the "empire".
If you need some help in creating names for other areas as well, I don't mind helping out.

I think I get it now.

So could I name blank areas near me to mess with?
