I prefer FPRPGs really. But that's basically just an improvement on the FPS concept.

FALLOUT 4.

Though I would say that some FPS online multiplayer like Battlefield are bringing RPG elements - leveling up, unlocking weapons and weapon attachments, different classes.  I keep getting sucked back into BF4 to level up, etc.

I usually prefer the more immersive type of FPS, RPG elements them tend to get me out of that immersion and remind me that I'm in a game. I love fallout though, but games like battlefield, eh. Counterstrike and the Red Orchestra series are my favorite. You feel like you have to make more out of your 'life' or 'actions' and the other people also have the same fear. The very long 'time-out' for dying kinda brings this immersion. Red Orchestra games especially put you into it, because they have a very limited HUD if at all (some servers disable it). There's just a gritty feeling you get when you play the game, being shot at and the sound of bullets bouncing around you and tracer rounds flailing around you while you're in cover. The virtual soldier you control has to take a moment to adjust themselves in order to keep fighting. When your teammate dies and is gurgling blood and calling for mother is also a good addition to the gritty feel. They had a funny ad that addressed what I'm talking about.

All these other games aren't that great because you don't feel like you're taking any risks, you're just mindlessly running around hoping people don't notice you and then shooting them in the back until someone shoots you in the back.

I can handle the first-person RPG like Skyrim or Oblivion, but I've never been able to handle the FPS like Call of Duty or Resistance.

I can't play very fast paced shooters, and the first person view tends to make me feel dizzy/nauseous if there is a lot of movement. That and games where the core gameplay is just killing people without any context don't appeal to me.

Fallout/Skyrim are really the only first person games I've enjoyed playing, although I find the exaggerated, gory kill-cams in Fallout unpleasant.

True that.  It probably seems odd to say, but for me, the killcams in Fallout don't really seem to fit the alternate reality - I can accept a retro-future based on the 1950s, but can't accept a head exploding when shot with a .44 magnum.

You do know you can turn off kill cams in the Graphics settings, right?

From Dirty Bomb, TF2 to CoD. The only thing killing it for me is the horrendous lag that sometimes haunts the island.

I feel for you there, lag is so frustrating.  Though I feel for Wast more!
