Hey everyone. For those who know, and those who may not, flags, coat of arms, national roundels, etc... are a hobby of mine. Anyway I've done some work for a few people around here, and I'm finally opening shop
I want to make two things clear though, I don't do animated flags, and my flag "shoppe" is free. No money required, I do this for the people
Seriously though, no payment necessary. Designing flags, coat of arms, roundels, etc... works as a creative outlet for me, when I'm working on a project it allows me to calm my crazy brain down. The experience, the process is all the payment I really need.
Ok, onto business.
All flags will have a "Y" axis of 100 pixels. The "X" axis will very depending on the design, in proportion to the set "Y" limit. The reason for the "Y" set at 100 is that I have found it provides for the perfect flag size, both for NS display as well as avatar/sig display. Chances are I'll work on the design at a larger size, but the final product will be resized so that the "Y" is 100.
Terms! Ok what are you getting?
National flag: The flag of a nation, the "top dog" in the flag family. This is your nation's primary flag.
*I'll use Inglo-Scotian examples unless otherwise stated.
Subdivisions: The flag of one of the subdivisions of your nation. These can range from simple variations of your national flag to completely new designs.
Military flag/Naval Jack: The military flag is the flag of your armed forces. The Naval Jack is the flag your navy flies to signify nationality. More often then not these flags are simple variations of the national flag. Some nations use the same flag in both functions (I-S) while some have separate flags for each function (CSSD). Some simply use their national flag in one or both functions (Irnotia).
Roundel: The marking of your military vehicles that identifies nationality. These can very between elaborate designs to the simple three rings inside of each other using national colours. These will always appear on a grey background to symbolize their placement on a fighter jet, the military vehicles most often associated with roundels.
Coat of Arms (CoA): The emblem that represents your nation. Mostly used on official documents, coins, bills, treaties, maybe even a flag or two. Design usually depends on the type of nation. Republics generally have simple CoAs, while monarchies tend to use elaborate designs, but there are exceptions on both sides.
