The Third Crash

OOC: Nothing in here uses tech that's absurdly sci-fi, I don't think anyone will have any problem with it.

The enormous spaceship sped past a star, leaving it's orbit in hours. There were four men on it, all of them claiming Pelagian ancestry. The Third Reich of Pelagis was the final incarnation of the Myrorian Empire; all of Selene and most of Orestes belonged to the Pelagian Empire. Now, these four men were being sent on a "routine stellar exploration" trip. But visiting distant stars with no apparent cause was not "routine", and each Pelagian knew it.

"Lieutenant, the current trip time has been 5227 days, 19 hours, 28 minutes, 10 seconds: roughly 13 years. Current elapsed time to mission accomplishment: 2305 days, 19 hours, 29 minutes, 23 seconds: roughly 7 years." the computer said.

"Thank you, ASIM."

"Any time, sir."

The Lieutenant walked to a control panel, showing a map of the galaxy. Their current position was shown by a yellow arrow; their destination: a green box. Their leaving point was a red box. The speedometer showed 1346 kph: too slow. He picked up a radio headset.

"Requesting nuclear insertion, Conquesteur."

"Granted."

"Requesting nuclear detonation, Conquesteur."

"Granted in 15 seconds."

The intercom on the spaceship boomed out to the men

"Centrifuge stopping to counter Gs. Please sit in your seats and prepare for nuclear detonation."

After the countdown was up, an explosion was heard and the speedometer rocketed to 539,626,424 kilometers per hour: roughly half the speed of light.

OOC: Picture the Hupprecht Patrick (the ship on the interstellar journey) as having the stick shape of Discovery One from 2001: A Space Odyssey, with the trapezoidal cockpit of the Lambda-class shuttle of Star Wars, all about the length of a Star Destroyer (1,605 meters), packed to the brim with up to 100 small ion cannons.

The four men in the cockpit at the end of their destination. The Lieutenant is pictured behind the pilots in the dark grey uniform. Yes, I'm basing the Pelagian Empire after it's Star Wars counterpart.

IC: The Hupprecht Patrick had reached it's target, and was hiding in the orbit of a large gas giant dubbed "Pelagis Calypsian Planet 335"

"We can't just go blindly flying in with this kilometer long monstrosity. This ship only needs one pilot when in orbit, us three will fly towards our destination."

"Come on, Lieutenant, we've been on this ship for 20 years, and you can't tell us what we're going to?"

"You'll see in due time. Now, get to the interplanetary shuttle, and make sure the transport pods in it are working."

The shuttles were fast and made the journey to their destination in just three days. They entered the orbit of the planet, which the Lieutenant finally said was named "Pelagian Habitable Planet 29". He got on the radio.

"We're going to the surface. Make sure you have your blaster pistols ready, and board the desent pods. You, Adolph, go in that forest. You, Klaus, go in that jungle. And I will go in that desert."

The locations showed up on the pod's HUD's.

"As you wish, sir."

The pods began their desent.

Klaus and Adolph made it safely, and reported to the lieutenant. But what the lieutenant wasn't expecting was lights. He knew that this could be dangerous, so he took his blaster pistol and headed for the hills. He passed a sign on the way away from his landing sight. It read only:

That was years, decades, ago. The crew of the Hupprecht Patrick are long dead, and the government of the United States quickly covered up the pod that was found. The President has always kept it a secret. Until now. It's time to stop pussyfooting around.

A press conference was called. The President said he had something to say to the people.

June 17, 2008 (Earth time)

"Mister President, looking back as your term draws nearer and nearer to a close, what have you been thinking?"

"A lot, actually. Where do I begin...perhaps by saying something about the state of the world. Not terrorists or the threat of North Korea. Something...much bigger."

"What, sir?"

"The Roswell crash, back in 1947 - that was a coverup. And I'm not George W. Bush. I am Klaus Goldwater of the Pelagian Galactic Reich."

"Ha-ha. Very funny, sir."

"A Pelagian doesn't joke. It's time to stop pussyfooting around this. From Kennedy to now - they've all been Pelagians. And Earth is no longer free," Here he dropped his Texan accent and took on a creeky, slow voice.

"You are part of the Galactic Reich - all of you."

"I don't believe this. Prove to me that you are an alien 'Mister Goldwater'"

Goldwater unhooked a radio from his pocket.

"The human doesn't believe us."

A few seconds later green plasma beams rained from the sky - the Capitol building's signature rotunda collapsed.
