One Class B Freighter
« on: April 12, 2007, 09:42:49 PM »
A Class B Freighter, the second largest in the Pelagian recording system, exited the α Centauri Wormhole by the Centauri entrance. It was due to make a shipment to a space station orbiting Proxima Centauri at .5 AU. It was currently at α Centauri B. As the freighter began to refocus it's cameras, it noticed a large blue, almost fishlike craft at the other end. It was definitely not like the humanesque Pelagian craft. Even more disturbing, it was packed with weapons. A man with a foreign accent came on the radio, speaking somewhat contorted Pelagian Basic.

"We will not allow Pelagis in our space. Go back home."

"I am making a shipment to Proxima. I will be on my way."

"NO! You will leave NOW! Too many empires exploit these stars!"

The captain switched channels from the Centauri frequency to those in nearby stars.

"I am the captain of the PF Dragon. I am being intimidated by a large enemy ship. It is blue and reminds me of a strange fish. Any other freightman have an idea of who this is? Pelagian or not, I need identification and backup."

He switched channels back to the Centauri frequency. Luckily he was near a wormhole, so radiowaves would bypass the fast-but-slow speed of light.

"This is urgent. If I don't deliver these supplies to Proxima, my own people will die. Please let me through."

"NO! TURN BACK OR WE FIRE!"

The captain thought for several minutes. His men were already sending entries, perhaps their last, to their families. He turned off the radio.

"Cross your fingers!" He yelled before engaging full thrusters. He knew Pelagian freighters were made with blockade running in mind. In seconds the windows turned from space black to blue with dark blue designs. Soon that was gone as he saw flashes of light in his backship camera, eerily silent in space. One blaster hit his right engine. The lights illuminating its joystick accelerator went off, signaling failure. Only two left. Thinking fast, he tried to switch the central engine's power to the right one. It didn't work. They must have hit it directly. The warship now closed in, ordering that they would live if they gave up and entered it. His crew was convinced, and the captain was forced to give in. He slowed his ship as the unknown race extended their airlock bridge to his craft.

The captured men sat in their freighter as the ship embarked toward the Centauri planet. Their calls still had not been answered, but it seemed the Pelagians did send another freighter, as it came from the wormhole with four fighters around it. They could only watch from their porthole on their ship as Centauria, as it was called, loomed larger and larger on the horizon and the freighter flew off toward the red star known as Proxima. Finally they entered orbit around one of Centauria's four moons. The airlock on the ship that captured them was detached as it headed back to the wormhole to search for more intruders. There the captives waited for hours before another latching sound was heard as the airlock was again connected, this time to a blue shuttle. A few minutes later, two men - or whatever - entered the freighter. They both wore suits, so the people on Centauria must not breathe oxygen and nitrogen like on Pelagis. It was soon discovered the one in a deep purple suit was of high ranking, as a fur cape was draped over his back. The other must have been a translator.

The Centauri breathed loudly, yet it did not look as if they were deprived of their noxious air. The high-ranking one turned to the translator and spoke in loud gutteral noises and screetching. He turned to the Pelagians.

"King Adlani. He want know who you are."

"We - we are Pelagians. We came to give the Proximans supplies. Please - please, let us go."

"No, says King. We not let you go. You intruders. You must die as an example."

The captain became defensive.

"You kill us, and we will destroy your planet. War with Pelagis is not an option for any but the most hardy spacefaring nations. You will let us go!"

The two men made sounds like a human breathing shallowly. It was soon apparent that was their form of laughing.

"Then we kill you slowly! The puny Pelagians do not threaten the Adlani [it seemed they named themselves after their current king]! You die now!"

The men left and an unlatching noise was heard, then the ship rocked two times with an explosion. The other two engines were destroyed. Then a ship pushed them out of orbit. Now they clung to the hope that their radio still worked. Thank Dei, it did. The captain radioed all open non-Centauri channels.

"We have been pushed into an unstable orbit around Alpha Centauri B by an unknown race. We need rescue. We need rescue. This is the PF Dragon. We need rescue. We need rescue..." The transmission was recorded and set to play every fifteen minutes. The men now had to live on what oxygen they had and the supplies they were meant to deliver.

Luck for the Pelagians, a small Feniexian trade fleet on it´s way back from the Pelagian Earth to their home system was maneuvering in the hyperspace lanes near them, when they recieved the fregates call for help.

"P.F. Dragon, here is the T.S. Lanya 17. Can you send us your current coordinates?"

"Right Ascension 14h 39m 35.3s, declination -60° 50′ 14.1". The Dragon is 97 meters long and currently heading in a direction toward Alpha Cen A. There is a green stripe on the nose of the craft and the rest is a dark grey."

A probe with an open winged eagle symbol on it's side opened its parachute as it went crashing through the thick atmosphere of Centauria. The sky wasn't the beautiful blue of Pelagis (Even though it's a huge city, the cars put out little pollution). Instead it was a sickly green-yellow. The sensors detected a horrid poison that was the majority of the atmosphere: Chlorine. But soon the probe slammed into the ocean of the planet, which again were nothing like those of Pelagis' moon. They were silver. Mercury. The land was inhospitable to any good-minded human, but the Centaurians must have thrived in it.

Even though the captives were quickly becoming outraged that the Pelagis government hadn't responded, they didn't know that's how they started all wars. First a probe to see if the stormtrooper's helmets could filter the atmosphere (Chlorine was used back on Taijitu during the First World War, so the helmets could filter it with ease), then war. If the atmosphere wasn't breathable, they just ignored everything that ever happened. Since the atmosphere was at least...slightly breathable, the government could now respond. They opened up the radio channels.

"We heard your calls. A probe returned the status of Centauria's atmosphere. The Debate Hall is already discussing war. We also heard that some Feniexians are sending a craft. We'll defer to them. Godspeed, and call if you need help."

"Thank you, P.F. Dragon. We will get you out there. Shall we call the Navy? Should we await armed conflicts? We have no information in our databases about this planet."

"No need. The homeland is discussing war. It'd be appreciated if you just put us in orbit around Pelagis. I'll send the word once we get out of the wormhole."

OOC: Quote posts are never long anyways. Don't worry about it.

A cargo truck landed in front of Centauri Palace. A large object, draped in blue cloth, was carried by four men into the throne room, where King Adlani sat. The men took the cloth off. There was a probe, definately not of Centauri origin. The King looked surprised and spoke, again in the squeaks and noises. The conversation lasted about five minutes. He knew that this probe looked as if the same beings as the Pelagians built it. And lo, the eagle on the side was the same as the eagle on the side of the freighter he had boarded. This was an act of war, and he was tired of it. He decided, somewhat on the dot, to destroy Pelagis. He no longer wanted it encroaching on his territory.

But destroying a planet wouldn't be easy. They are six sextillion ton balls of iron. Only his most powerful weapon, usually hidden behind the blinding light of Alpha Centauri B, would do it.

The weapon was the Chimera Class High Energy Cannon. Twenty kilometers long, it was larger than an SSCS. It was made to launch a huge nuclear projectile deep into a planet's mantle at three quarters the speed of light. No planet would survive the 1 gigaton nuclear detonation. And now Pelagis was targeted. The ship, 3 kilometers in circumference, could barely fit into the wormhole to the Pela system. But when it did, it was seen with the eyes of an ecumenopolis. And so, the Battle for Pelagis would begin.

"As you wish."

Three small drones were sent to look up for any potential dangers.
As they reported back that the area was clear, two of the Feniexian freighter docked on the Pelagian one, supplies were given to the life keeping systems, the tractor beams were activated, and the Pelagian ship was carried to the next hyperspace lane, were a local navy ship took it back to Pelagis.
