OOC: For reference, this is occurring "below" the galactic plane, can't decide which quarter of the galaxy. It's not close enough to any person for it to make an immediate difference (assuming everyone already has matters of higher priority other than investigating nebula formations several light years off (therefore you can't see it for several years)) so I'd rather not make first contact with anyone yet... unless you want a war ;D feel free to PM me

IC:"Status is Green, Rift Generator is standing by."

Lord Marshal Naer'ul paced the deck frantically, he was growing impatient. He knew his enemies were coming soon. Three hundred systems annihilated in eighteen weeks. Five hundred billion lives, lost to the genocidal Akura... How could this have happened? He couldn't stop shaking, none of his men could. He could feel the melancholy of thousands of men without families to go back to. This was their last hope, they had entrusted him with their fates.

His EXO stood stalwart, emotionless, his eyes fixed upon the hologram of the system as it flickered. So far all that could be detected were incoming refugee ships, hundreds of citizens fleeing the slaughter. Elysium glimmered brighter than the rest as countless military vessels hurredly refueled and replenished their ammunition. Over eight thousand combat vessels were ready to make their stand over their homeworld. Several crewmen hurredly read off the myriad of ships entering the system.

A red flicker broke the tranquility of the emerald hologram, and hope seemed to escape the grasp of the men. Lord Marshal knew not what to say, these men had nothing to live for, revenge was the only fuel that kept the fire in their hearts burning. An ensign muttered under his breath "They're here.."

The screen seemed to come to life as a hundred more ships began to approach, and the military vessels around Elysium quickly moved to engage the enemy.

"Standby to activate Action Zero," the Lord Marshal muttered. A plethora of green blips approached his location, thirty billion Elysians fleeing their doomed world. A contigent of military vessels accompanied the civilian group, nearly eleven hundred military vessels assigned to escort the citizens. The number of Elysian craft seemed to increase many times over as military ships engaged the Akura, countless drones spilling from massive carriers in a futile attempt the delay the inevitable. The Akura Host seemed to be spilling into the system quicker than he had imagined. He watched as the screen was unable to clearly filter the battle.

A warning flickered on the screen, hovering above Elysium. It simply read "Multiple Warheads Inbound." Moments later the screen flickered, shimmered, and cut out.

The cold silence of space eerily taunted the servicemen, and the screen crackled back to life. It now read "Onboard Scanners Active. Elysium Destroyed. Initiate Action Zero."

"Alright, Ensign Pol, power the rift generators."

The lights dimmed, and one AU away from the enormous vessel a small naked singularity appeared, creating an intense white light. Vapours and dust seemed to be rapidly sucked into the growing orb of light, and it began to expand vigorously.

"Singularity created, powering rift generators."

The screen shimmered again, a brilliant white dot had appeared on the screen near their position, an object with infinite mass. Lord Marshal was distracted by other events on the screen however. The fleet had been overun, and Akura vessels seemed to be appearing at all edges of the system, converging on the last remnants of the Elysian State.

The brilliant white light had grown to the size of a planet within a minute, and around it were sixteen small automated stations. Their repulsors struggled to prevent them from being sucked into the light. Small burts simultaneously fired from each platform, striking the singularity in perfect unison. Sixteen small bursts disrupted the gravitic field, and the singularity collapsed. Radiation and dust swirled outwards from a newly created portal of brilliant light, and the Lord Marshal closed his eyes in a prayer.

Hundreds of civilian craft plummeted towards the rip in space, desperately hoping that it would allow them to continue their lives. The Akura Host was now a mere 100 kilometers away, and energy weapons were hurling destructive power towards the Elysians. Tentacles of energy seemed to slowly flail about the rip, and several civilian craft were sundered, but the first of many entered the ball of light. Massive amounts of red energy streamed through the Elysian Navy as they began to return fire, brilliant beams of light arcing from their decks sought out and raked the hulls of several Akura vessels, while red pulse fire ripped through the hull of an Elysian Dreadnought, it's power core rupturing in a massive explosion.

"Sir, 80% of civilians are through the portal."

"Get us out of here!" shouted the Lord Marshal as the craft shook, its shields failing to withstand the shockwave from the dreadnought.

The military vessels desperately released their fury at anything they could fire at, hundreds of short range pulse blasts ripped apart approaching squadrons of Akura fighters, and the Elysian military ventured through the rift. Within moments, the green hologram was empty, the sixteen platforms detonated, and the rift collapsed.

Hundreds of billions on light years away a small flicker appeared in space before shattering the serenity of the local system in a spectacular explosion.

The rift, visible on the right, rips through space-time just prior to the Elysian arrival.

Moments later the first of a wave of battered, scarred, and damaged ships arrive through the hole. Twenty-nine billion survivors, six hundred military vessels, and enough supplies for two weeks. Naer'ul sighed, and his fellows moral seemed to triple immediately. The rift slowly began to close, and the Elysian people were free to rebuild their glorious State.

"Lord Marshal, all ships are through the rift. It's closed, and no enemy contact has come through," an ensign stood by the array of equipment, glancing over all the information before turning back to Naer'ul. "Sir, we're safe."

Naer'ul smiled widely, in plain view of his comrades. He was known throughout the State for lacking emotion, a cool, calculating man, but the recent weeks had weighed his mind heavily. So many deaths were his fault, he had to make it right.

Another crewman informed the Lord Marshal that deep space scans detected a small star and four worlds, one of which was possibly habitable. It's approximately 42 Astronomical Units away.

"Contact fleet, give them the coordinates. Prep Warp Bubble Generator," Naer'ul walked to the scanning equipment, looking it over with a careful eye.

"Fleet is standing by, sir."

Naer'ul waved his hand, and the quiet hum of power dimmed the lights noticeably. Beyond the bubble, space-time contracted and expanded, hurtling the craft through space at 10 Astronomical Units a second. Within five seconds eight hundred ships appeared near the planet, active short range scanning picking up a signal from mid orbit near the southern pole.

"Unknown object in medium orbit, sir."

"Identify?"

"Unknown, sir, appears to be a vessel of sorts."

"Akura?"

The ensign shook his head, but Naer'ul would take no precautions. If he smelled trickery, he would open fire. As far as he knew, he had the upper hand here. "Sound Condition Red, all crew to action stations." The lights dimmed on station, Naer'ul barely understood why they did, although he believed it was power being reverted to weaponry he didn't actually understand it. "Open omniband communications, see if we can make contact! If they don't speak Elysian, well, think of something."

The ensign looked puzzled.

"IMPROVISE!"

"Captain!  We have a ship...no...I'm not sure.  It's either one ship, or a few.  I can't tell.  More seem to be coming..."

"Is it...them?"

"Um...no sir, they seem to be using a rift gate, not instantaneous travel.  Shall we contact them?"

"Well...the dominion were friendly enough, but we should keep our guard up.  Power up the MACs.  We won't win if they attack, but you know the Hale Protocol.  We can't return to New Latagon.  If we're in danger, we've got to make a random jump.  We'll stay to see if they're friendly, but if they open fire, we'll return, and jump."

The Entire ship shuddered as a MAC round was loaded.  The weapons con flickered to life as Private McKinzey jumped to his station.  The comms officer looked up.

"Aye Ma'am.  Opening a channel.  You may speak when ready, Captain Peterson."

"Alien ship.  We come in peace.  We do not wish to harm you.  If you understand us, please power down your weapons.  We do not mean any harm."

Static and garbled words were picked up on the omniband, and the ensign quickly adjusted the receiver. "My Lord, we have contact... holy Elysia..."

Lord Marshal raised an eyebrow. "Yes?"

"They speak Elysian! Well... at least it sounds like it. They have a hideous accent." Lord Marshal's mouth dropped a few inches as he considered the probability that another race would speak a language similar to his.

Astronomical! Lord Marshal moved to the comms station and picked up a transmitter. Maybe the warp brought us to an alternate dimension... He activated the comm, "Hail..." Lord Marshal paused, considering what to call them, "...friend. We've come a long way..."

"Sir!" a soldier interrupted. "There's a large energy signal coming from within the vessel."

Lord Marshal turned the transmitter off, turning to the ensign. "Signal fleet to spread out, have groups three through twenty rendezvous at the fourth planet. All ships deploy combat drones in screening formations. Triangulate and charge all heavy lances and power the shields. Let's see if we can't talk these people down, I can't lose any more people today damnit!"

Lord Marshal grabbed the receiver, struggling to restrain his voice. "We've detected a large power signature within your vessel. If you are considering firing upon us, know this. 500 billion of our people have died in the past eighteen weeks. Five hundred billion souls within a year and a half. We're the last of our people, if you want to harm a single soul we will spend every last ounce of our blood hunting your kind down." Lord Marshal turned to the adjutant, then to the Weapons Officer. "Divert all power to shields. Power down ion drives to 10% and all weapons to standby. Have Squadrons four to thirty rendezvous at the fourth planet. Squadrons one through three, spread out and deploy drones in a defensive screen."

"We've powered down our weapons and engines. Any power reading you get from our vessels are shields. You're here alone, why?"

"Captain, they seem to be powering down their weapons, but I'm still getting some kind of power signal."

A message rings inside the bridge, "We've detected a large power signature within your vessel. If you are considering firing upon us, know this. 500 billion of our people have died in the past eighteen weeks. Five hundred billion souls within a year and a half. We're the last of our people, if you want to harm a single soul we will spend every last ounce of our blood hunting your kind down...We've powered down our weapons and engines. Any power reading you get from our vessels are shields. You're here alone, why?"

One of the men exclaims, "That's Latagonian!...but...how?"

Captain Peterson looks down at her hands.  She says, almost in a whisper, "Five hundred Billion..."  She thinks for a second.  "Power down the MAC, make sure that hull plating is to max.  If this is one of...their...tricks then it's not going to matter, but I want at least enough time to put a few messages out to LATCOM."

"Aye."

She looks to the inactive holo emitter, where normally her shipboard AI would stand.  Unfortunately only three AI had survived the scouring, most others had had to be purged.  After a second or two she looks up and speaks in a full voice.  "Friends.  We too have lost many of our people.  348 Billion people died.  We now defend the last refuge of our people.  Only 4.5 Billion people survived to rebuild here.  We are alike in many ways it seems.  We lost all 84 of our planets.  My ship and it's fleet tried to fight off the invaders at our home planet, but it wasn't enough.  Our entire home planet was destroyed, with more than 14 Billion lives lost...Alien ship.  We mean you no harm.  We hail from the planet of Latagon, where do you come from?"

The crew remained silent while the soldier reported the power signature of the aliens weapon as it powered down.

Lord Marshal frowned. Another people that have gone through the hardships we have... this The crewmen around him all seemed to be thinking the same thoughts, and the atmosphere within the bridge seemed sunken. Naer'ul grabbed the omniband transmitter and sent his reply. "We... hailed... from Elysia. We now have no place to call home save these starcraft. We've lost all our worlds as well, including our homeworld. The military stepped up to replace the government when they were annihilated in the opening weeks of the war..." The Lord Marshal felt a lump build up in his throat as he continued. "We lost over 60 percent of our military in one battle, they died stalling our enemies so that we could convert the largest freighters into transports. We managed to save 29 billion people, but we have no home and only enough food to last us two weeks with rationing."

"Both of our people have gone through massive hardships. Maybe we can help each other. We need a new place to live, is there anything we can help you with?"

Captain Peterson paced the bridge.  Her suspicions might be correct, and if they were, the danger to New Latagon had just tripled.  "We had scouted this planet as a potential colony for our people, but considering what you've been through, I think it would only be fitting that you take the planet instead.  All we ask in return, is information about your alien threat, so that we may make a comparison."

"Our threat..." Lord Marshal turned to a serviceman manning the scanners. "Crewman, calculate our new universal position. Give me a feel for this place."

"Aye, m'Lord."

In under a minute the crewman replied with confidence. "Sir, we are approximately 470 Mpc from Elysia Prime, or roughly 4,700,000 parsecs."

The Lord Marshal's face was calm, with a slight hint of surprise. It'll take them millennia to find us, if they're even looking... Naer'ul picked up the transmitter and spoke once more to the alien vessel. "We're... a very long way from home. Our last act to escape their brutal assault was to collapse a naked singularity with specialized rounds of anti-matter. We managed to rip a hole in the space-time continuum, no Akura vessel was able to follow us through."

"The Akura are ...reptilian. There are two breeds, a four foot kind with some sort of webbed crest, and a six foot kind with clawed hands and a strong tail. We know very little about where they came from, or why they attacked. We barely understood their technology."

"Reptilian...That could easily be another form of...them...I've never seen anything other than the insectoids, but you never know."  Captain Peterson said to herself, and the rest of the bridge crew.  She returned to the transmission.  "You say you haven't begun to understand their technology.  We have an enemy of most likely the same caliber.  The only reason we were able to save any part of our population was because of captured Maraudersoft ships, of which we're still working on the secrets."

Naer'ul was intrigued, yet worried. If the Elysian people had travelled from one galaxy to another only to encounter the same foul creatures... Naer'ul picked up the transmitter to reply, "our military was able to destroy many Akura vessels, although not as many as it should have. Our defensive shieldings were enough to withstand their firepower, giving us time to outnumber them and destroy them. Even if your enemy are not related to ours, I feel we need to find a place to live so that we can rebuild and be ready for your foe, the Elysian people hunger for a taste of revenge."

OOC: Sorry, had to jump in. Consider this a first contact of sorts; my race is pretty unfriendly!

A cruiser about two kilometers long silently headed towards the collected vessels. Pushed along by minimal propulsion through its large engines it seemed to be gliding through space. The curves of its exotic architecture and deep purple shades gave it the appearance of being intertwined with the space that surrounded it.

From the Quaestor-class cruiser a transmission was sent on an open frequency to all present. The transmission read, "'This is the Pure of Heart. We are conducting exploration for the Aræi Space Authority under the Aræn Navy. Identify yourselves so you may be processed through our archives.' What appeared to be an after thought followed shortly after wards, 'Have any official claims been made to this planetary body?'.

(OOC: This is the Lord Marshal's flagship. For size comparison, it is approximately 6.5 km long nearly 2 km tall and 1.8 km wide, a hull thickness of around 300 meters (yes, 1/3 the ship is entirely armor, it's meant to take a massive beating... they're not fun to repair tho :D). It has a crew of 648, not including a 1,000 man marine detachment. There are also 59 other ships there, and ~540 vessels in reserve, it is my entire race after all, and they aren't very polite either ;))

The green hologram picked up another blip on the screen. This vessel seemed to be trying to stealthily approach the idle fleet. Within moments various vessels had formed a protective screen around the Lord Marshal's Providence. Over a hundred drones swarmed towards the Latagonian vessel, forming a defensive screen between the intruder and the Latagonian craft, while the remainder of the tiny dart-like vessels swirled around the Elysian fleet. The Elysian turrets had targetted the intruder, but power remained shifted the the shields, which shimmered with power in a water-like mass over the hulls of the Elysian fleet.

An open message was relayed to the vessel, "'Aræi' vessel, this is Lord Marshal Naer'ul, Director Militant of the Elysian State Defense Forces, and Commander of the ESS Providence. We are military escorts for refugee's of Elysia. Should we deem you a possible threat, realize we will not hesitate to fire."

Lord Marshal Naer'ul, watching the hologram produced by information from active scanning, quickly turned to the ensign. "Ensign Ta'rel, scan the surface of the planet. I want to know how habitable it is exactly."

Ensign Ta'rel quickly replied. "The planet is not quite optimal for our population, sir. It does not have sufficient land mass to sustain our population for long term, it will only account for 61% of our people. It also appears to be inhabited, with approximately 12 urban areas of various sizes, totaling approximately 42 million people."

"It's better than nothing," replied Naer'ul.

Another transmission was broadcast to both the Latagonian craft and the new Aræi arrival. "Should neither of you have a previous claim to this world, the State of Elysia would wish to procure it for the use of sustaining our population. We have 29 billion refugee's and only two weeks of food supplies."

The Pure of Heart hung in space for several minutes before eventually replying to the transmission, 'Power down your weapons and disperse. Should you fail to comply we will not hesitate to make the planet uninhabitable through the destruction of areas vital to the planets life supporting capabilities.'

On the bridge of the Pure of Heart Amelia let off a tiny sigh. Humanoid in form she was an attractive Aræn; her black hair hung loose around her shoulders, which contrasted nicely with her pale skin tone, while her eyes were dark brown in color. She was seated in a raised chair situated behind those of her command crew, enabling her to take swift command of any particular section of the deck at one moment. She lent lightly against the back of the command chair whilst conversing with the miniature figure in front of her, 'This is ridiculous. We should leave and let them have the planet.' The figure, in the form of an older man, crossed its arms in disapproval.

'Protocol is quite specific in this instance my lady. We must pursue a course of action that will lead to the benefit of the Imperium, catalogue these new races, determine the extent of their intentions, evaluate their threat-' He was cut short by a wave of her hand.

'Enough Soren.' This only seemed to agitate the A.I. 'What would your father say! As the daughter of a council member you should-' He was interrupted again as she rolled her head to the side and said,

'Keep the frequency open to receive their reply. Then run a full diagnostics of our weapons.' Soren's figure quickly disappeared as he completed the tasks given. Hopefully, she thought, it would not come to that. However Soren was correct. She needed to know a little more about who these people were before blindingly handing over a planet that could just as easily serve the Imperium.

The Lord Marshal sighed. He was no diplomat, though his rank seemed to confer him the title all too often. He paused, unsure how to answer the absurd demand. Forty-two million people on the planet, and they were willing to murder them. He began wondering, maybe they had not scanned the world yet. He ran his fingers along his pale, grey suit, feeling the soft fabric run against his fingers. "I don't like taking orders from people I don't know, especially when they threaten something that's not mine." He wasn't speaking to anyone in particular, but several men on the bridge watched each other intently. "Inform our new 'superiors' that our weapons have been powered down, as per the request of that Latagon vessel. Inform them any power signature reading they are receiving from our vessels are defensive fields. Also, tell them there are inhabitants on the surface, and that if they are Latagonian then the Aræn have no claim to this world, and we will not idly standby while the Aræn violate the sovereignty of oppressed peoples."

"Ensign, once that is done, send an encoded tachband message to Squadron 19, have them secure a new rendezvous point and transmit the warp coordinates immediately. Use encoding 4190-A. We don't need another Elysian to die over nonsense."

He did, however, make a note in a personal datachip. 'Aræn species potentially hostile, imperialistic.'

======================================================================================================
Over "Troy", Onboard the 'Marathon'

"Captain, the Aræns are powering up their weapons.  It seems our colonist are in just a bit more trouble than we had expected.  We should begin E-vac ASAP."
Captain Peterson again looked down at her empty AI port.  Usually her AI, Shade, would've popped up and offered some friendly advice, but not since...they...had attacked.
"Ma'am?"
The captain looked startled.  Shade had emerged before her eyes.  "Are you alright Captain?"
"Shade?  How in Forestor's name?"
"Your analogy to the hated President Forestor is a little crude, but I'll take it in light of your surprise.  You look terrible.  What's wrong?"
"We have a problem.  Troy, our newest colony, is threatened by the Aræns.  It seems that they're trying to cause trouble for our new friends, the Elysians, who we were about to allow take the planet."
"I see.  Alright.  I've called Battle-group 1 in.  They're carrying the new weapon, the MD Device."
"What's that?"
"The MD Device is the Molecular Disruption Device.  It has the power to wipe out an entire fleet by producing two beams whose focal point has the ability to disrupt the bonds between atoms in molecules. The device also creates a field in which nearby molecules are also destroyed, and each dissolved molecule widens the reach of the field. In the absence of nearby mass, such as in the vacuum of space, the field dissipates rapidly, but a tightly-clustered formation of ships could be easily destroyed.  The device is capable of destroying essentially any single object, or cluster of objects that are close enough together. It can destroy something as small as an enemy spacecraft, or something as incredibly large as an entire planet. In theory, it may even be able to destroy larger objects such as stars."
"I see, but using the weapon in such close proximity to the planet...isn't that dangerous?"
"Perhaps, the MD Device is untested."
"I see.  It's good to see you again, Shade.  Please send the Elysians a message to pull back, so that we can test the device."
"Yes ma'am."

"This is Admiral Hayes of Battle Group 1.  'Marathon' please stand down.  We'll take it from here."

Hayes motions to the private on comm.

"Aræns.  Please stand down and retreat away from the planet or we will be forced to destroy your ship.  If you wish to conduct diplomacy with ourselves or the Elysians then back away from the planet and stand down your weapons.
