Arachnid-Kroot War
« on: July 13, 2007, 04:41:03 AM »
Lord Protector Cerabus was on the surface of an unknown planet in the nebula. It was a small desert planet. He sniffed. This place is perfect. The transporters were lifting off leaving behind millions of Arachnid warriors, tankers, and plasma bugs. Hoppers filled the skies. Cerabus was guarded by many larger, heavier warriors called Centurions. Cerabus moved to the head of the army. <Forward. Find any life, kill it.> The great swarm of arachnids charged forward. The plasma bugs lumbered behind with their warrior guards. The tankers were able to keep up with the warriors. Cerabus turned to one of his princes. <Stay here and command the artillery. I will go with the army.> The prince clicked in obedience. The centorions charged forward with their Lord Protector. Cerabus ran with his guards and soon caught up with the army. The desert showed no life. Cerabus looked around in confusion. This world is suitable for life. Where is the life? Unless...

Laser bolts flew from the canyon walls. The Arachnids turned to face their unknown attackers. But they stayed hidden. The Arachnids turned back to the desert plains. Cerabus was among them. The hoppers, however were battling whoever was on the walls. One hopper brought back a body. It was a small five-foot body . It looked bird-like with spines on the back of the head. The creature looked like it was armed with knives, but there was a pistol holstered in the creature's belt. Cerabus looked as these creatures came down from the hills. The Arachnids cahrged this enemy. The tankers let loose their flamethrowers, killing many of these creatures. Cerabus jumped into battle as well. The unknown creatures fought with tooth, nail, blaster, claw, knife and a strange bayonet that came from the back of the blaster rifle. Cerabus fought with his rock-staff. The staff impaled many of these small creatures. Their size however was an advantage to the larger Arachnids. The small creatures ran back up the hill as the Arachnids pushed forward. Cerabus looked at the bodies littered around the battlefield, both alien and Arachnid. He was impressed.

The war with the aliens, or Kroot as they call themselves had gone on for weeks know. Cerabus was nearly at the end of his rope. The primitive Kroot hardly are a match for the larger Arachnid forces, but they were not going quietly. Cerabus came out of the new bug city that the workers were building. The night was disturbed by the large plasma that the plasma bugs were launching at Kroot cities and towns. Cerabus grabbed his rock-staff and headed out to the frontlines. The Kroot had fallen back and their lines were breaking. The Arachnids were pushing them hard. His centurions were close behind him. He arrived after about thirty minutes. Hoppers were diving and attacking individual Kroot and also causing them to fire in the air and not at the charging warriors. Tankers swept the Kroot aside with their inferno. Cerabus could feel his centurions impatience. They too wanted to fight, but they knew their job. The Kroot were being overrun with Arachnid warriors. They pulled back and fled, but the Arachnids followed and killed any who they caught. Cerabus nodded. The war was going in the Arachnid's favor. A prince sent him a thought message. <My Lord, pirate ships coming in. They are trying to break our bloackade. The nearest nest ship is coming in.>

Cerabus screeched in anger. The pirate groups had been aiding the Kroot because they wanted the nebula to become a pirate stronghold. They picked the wrong nebula <Get me a shuttle. I want to be on that nest ship, now.> The prince followed  the Lord Protector's orders A human-built shuttle arrived to pick up the lord Protector. He boarded the ship and let his centurions go hunt more Kroot. The prince piloting the shuttle flew him to the nest ship. The nest ship was a brand-new vessel. It was organiclly built by the Arachnids. It was over 18 kilometers long. This vessel was powerful. A strong shield as well as the Arachnid regenerate armor made this vessel hard to take down. They flew into a hanger where Cerabus could see plasma bugs getting ready to fire at the pirates. Cerabus went stright to the bridge. Princes were busy getting the ship ready to fight. Cerabus walked in. <Report>

A prince turned to him. <We have thirty large pirate ships on their way. They are mostly outdated vessels. We have twenty destroyers and this nest ship.> Cerabus nodded. He then melded his mind with those of the commanders on the destroyers. He sent them various orders and they followed them. The pirate ships turned to attack the Arachnid fleet. Cerabus clicked happily as his ships charged in to meet the pirates. Cerabus also noticed that they weren't a bit scared by the size or the strength of the nest ship. The two fleets went to meet each other in the middle.

A messenger shuttle entered the Pelagian wormhole, then took the Alpha Centauri transit to the Arachnid nebula. As it entered the nebula, it sent its message and waited for a reply.

<The Pelagian Empeurer has approved of assistance, should you need it, in your attempt to subdue the Kroots. One MSCS and one High Energy Cannon purchased from the Centauri are waiting for your approval or disapproval. Do not think we are forcing this upon you.>

High Princess Taat listened to the message. The Pelagians were willing to help in the war. She shook her head. Three more worlds had fallen to the Arachnids, all cleansed of non-Arachnid life. But Kroot, the planet her brother was fighting on wasn't going to fall without a fight. The natives were putting up a stout defense, even if is was futile. She wasn't like her brother, or the other princes. She, like all princess resembled an Earth mantis. Her arms ended with four-fingered hands. On her head was a crown made of rock and diamonds. She was a bright green color. Her nest ship neared the Pelagian shuttle. Then she gave her answer. <This is High Princess Taat of the Arachnid Colony, we accept your aid in the Arachnid-Kroot War. When will the ship and cannon arrive?>

<Both are in orbit around Pelagis, with the cannon being towed behind the the MSCS, it could take anywhere from a week to three. The cannon does not have main boosters, only retrograde, prograde, and pitch/bank/yaw rockets.>

High Princess Taat sighed. <Alright, bring the cannon and the MSCS. When you arrive, there will be an escort of destroyers that will take you Kroot. If you want, you may take quaters on my nest ship until you and your crew are fed andd rested.> The Princess turned to the princes working the controls while she waited. The war had yielded many good things. The Pelagians were behind them as allies, the new sandworms were making construction easier, and the nest ships were a force to be reckoned with.

Cerabus was on the bridge of his nest ship when the pirate and Arachnid fleets started firing at each other. The Arachnid fleet was smaller, but they had the larger nest ship. The space-whales were doing everything in their power to protect the nest ship as the pirates made it their first priority. The nest ship was holding it's own. The hoppers were helping the nest ship, by getting into the battery bays of the pirate ships. There they caused havoc. Guns were destroyed, sailors and marines were being killed by the hoppers. The pirate fighters were slowly being ripped apart by hoppers or shot down by the nest ship. Plasma from the Arachnid ships destroyed seven ships. The pirate fleet was slowly giving way. Cerabus knew that the pirates would have to retreat if they were to survive. The nest ship was the tip of the sword. No ship stood up to it for long. The pirates seemed to know that, cause they began to pull away and escape from the nebula. Cerabus knew they would be back, next time with greater numbers.

<Yes, that would be good. Let me just contact the admiral.>

"Admiral Lindemann?" said the captain of the ship.

"Admiral Lindemann, do you read me?"

"Do you read me, Admiral?"

The captain looked surprised and began again.

"HPHAI?"

"HPHAI?"

"...Yes, captain?"

"Where is Admiral Lindemann, HPHAI?"

"I'm sorry to say he has been incapacitated, captain."

"Incapacitated? What do you mean?"

"The ship was attacked. A piece of the bridge containing Admiral Lindemann was pierced and he was killed by explosive decompression along with three ensigns. The bulkheads shut so the rest of the ship wasn't affected."

"Who attacked us? It was around around a Pelagian military outpost near the warpgate!"

"That's exactly what scared them off after they attacked us. I will relay the pictures to you now."

"Thank you, HPHAI."

"Got them, HPHAI. That's weird, this looks like a hodgepodge. I see some Raptors, but they're gray and have markings on their fins. That's not right. There's some other stuff in here too, but I don't recognize them. I will show these to the Arachnids, they're dealing with pirate problems, so who knows. I'll be back."

"Okay, captain."

Cerabus looked at the video. The fighters and the ships looked all right. He turned to the Pelagian captain. <Those are the very same pirates that I fought. See you can see the burn marks from the plasma. I can't believe that they attacked your admiral. My deepest apologies. We will see this blockade even stronger. The pirates are alays trying to run the blockade. This was one of their unsuccessful runs. I will send more destroyers and nest ships to the warpgate so that next time this doesn't happen.>

<Good, thank you. HPHAI can operate the ship by itself until I get there. I just need to explain the situation to the Empeurer so he promotes someone to run it.>

The shuttle's airlock doors shut and the shuttle pushed away from the nest ship with retro rockets. It turned to the warpgate and put the thrusters on half-way until they got far enough away from the fleet to engage full thrusters. The ensign recieved the reply from the Empeurer hours after the ship entered the Pela system.

"If the captain of the shuttle is the most experienced person to fly an SSCS, he's going to."

The captain hadn't flown an SSCS since he was honorably discharged from the Imperial Navy after recieving an accidental shot to the leg by a stormtrooper onboard. It had healed mostly now, and he was partly excited to be able to get himself strapped into that seat in the bridge between the two giant centrifuges at the back.

Replacing the officer's hat he had been given with a space helmet, and pinning his command ribbon onto his spacesuit, he attached his shuttle to the port on the damaged bridge. There was a clear hole in it, but none of the equipment save those that had been sucked out of said hole seemed to be damaged. Crawling through the airlock into the bridge, he floated to the captain's seat and strapped himself in.

The ship was already travelling at the correct velocity toward the jumpgate. He reviewed the condition of the ship, reset the alarms that were chiming and blaring, and handed control over to HPHAI. He was to be notified if there was a problem. The captain entered the centrifuge to the port side and rested.
