Theme Weeks
« on: March 28, 2015, 08:15:47 PM »
I believe I've mentioned in the past my interest in theme weeks. I've been discussing this with our Citizen-Liaison, and Khem and I have come up with the following vague outline:

Theme weeks would be held every month or so, probably the week after a Voice of the People is published. The people would vote on a theme to follow, and for that week we would hold events and such related to the theme. For instance, if we voted for a "Frozen" theme - God help us - people might change their avatars or flags/pretitles in-game to fit the theme, if they wanted. We could have discussions, like "Why Is Frozen The Biggest Thing Since The Invention of the Wheel?", or "What Happens To That Lady in Frozen When the Ice Caps Melt?".

At the end of the theme week, we could even have a big event to hopefully drum up even more activity on the forum. It could be a "Draw Your Favorite Frozen Character (All of Them)" contest or something like that.

Any ideas from the Ecclesia on this?

I love the idea of the discussions/debates and themed activities. I'm not sure if I would want to change my avatar/flag/forum sig though( change is scary D= )

Understandable. We wouldn't, of course, be so counterrevolutionary as to require it of anyone!

No a suggestion and spirit upheld by the Liaison team. We would seek to give the feeling more prominence than requiring strict adherence to such as necessary for success of the theme week.

I would be interested in hearing what other Taijituans might think of this.

This is a great idea for mixing things up here in Taijitu, giving us some more silly-fun things in which to participate, and also ought to make us more interesting to newbs/nations from other regions.

It could be almost like a monthly outreach, a way to draw interest. :)

I agree with Allama. It's an easy way to create activity. I'm sure we can come up with a good theme (as long as you don't listen to any of my suggestions, we will be fine!).

I like the idea and I would participate. That's all I have to say.

Quote
Theme Weeks Act

1. Taijitu may have theme weeks, timed at the discretion of the Citizen-Liaison.
2. A theme week shall consist of a set theme, voted upon by the Ecclesia.
2a. For four days before the vote, anyone in the Ecclesia may suggest a theme that will be added to the list of themes to vote on.
3. The Citizen-Delegate shall be responsible for editing the region's World Factbook Entry and/or regional flag to fit the theme.
4. Participants may edit their own national flags and/or forum profiles to fit the theme if they so wish.
5. A theme week shall last seven Revolutionary days.

This is a very rough draft of a law I just typed up. Comments? Should we define the voting method in law?

As our current laws both do not prohibit theme weeks and do empower the Citizen-Liaison to run community events, I'm not certain I understand the aim of legislating them... unless we want to make certain timing mandatory. Couldn't we just have the Citizen-Liaison arrange these within the bounds of his currently legal powers?

Or is it that we're concerned over making sure the Ecclesia picks the theme vs. the C-L himself?

Your answer is contained in your question :) Plus we like making things official and part of law.

As to the legal draft, I'm unsure I want this timed at my discretion, I'm kinda lazy and forgetful sometimes.

no...we don't...just sometimes when it's to empower something/one that doesn't need power.

Her remark makes sense, plus we now have the option to have a huge liaison team...make them serve tables!

We like legislating when it's necessary to do so. But we also like to avoid overlegislating. I agree with Allama - I don't see why theme week needs to be a law since it's already within the scope of the Liaison's power.

If anything, empowering the Liaison/etc. to organize community events without approval of the Ecclesia encourages activity by that office.
