Revolutionary Calendar and Theme
« on: November 28, 2015, 03:19:40 AM »
It has been suggested that the Revolutionary Calendar be abolished. Discuss this (and more generally, the revolutionary theme) here.

I'm not particularly enthusiastic about it; the calendar is nice insofar as it adds something unique to the region, but it's also a point of confusion for new members. As for the theme in general, it may be time for an adjustment - so ideas are welcome.

I will go along with whatever theme piques people's fancy, or with keeping the present theme.

The current theme is fun, but I can see how it could get old.

Though I very much personally enjoy utilizing fantasy calendars (with the revolutionary calendar as no exception), I have found it to be confusing for myself with use in legislation.

I would personally prefer the theme to become more aligned with wabi-sabi rather than the current theme.

Thank you for separating thematic concerns from the legislative ones.

I don't see the need for a theme. Taijitu is its own theme, its own identity. We're too good to copy someone else. Especially with some silly calendar that makes no damn sense anyway. Lets just.. be original and be ourselves?

The calendar was inspired by the french revolutionary calendar, but is in no way a copy of it, for the record.

I get that... but still... Its just.. ugh.

Lets just go with real world time. Its so much easier. If we need cutesy calendars to set ourselves apart then frankly, we're doing it wrong.

I'm fine with continuing to use it a smattering of non-formal contexts (like the forum header I'd been messing with), and dropping it from documents and election threads. I won't be crushed if we stop with it entirely though (though .revcal will always live on).

So I think we're in agreement that the Revolutionary theme should be dropped. Thankfully it has more or less faded away already, so there's not much to do except to stop using the calendar on official matters and possibly to rename things when the government is reconstructed.

As long as anyone can just... look at something on this forum and know what -actual- day it is pertaining to then I'm happy.

I'm pretty sure that, ending the discussion period, we can go straight to voting, I doubt people can offer alternatives to the Calendar, rather end this one, and if we want to implement another one we'll discuss those specifically.

I argued against the calendar during our initial debate and voted against it.
On the same grounds I will welcome an abolition.

I motion to a vote a repeal of the Revolutionary Calendar Act.

Additionally I would like to use the Calendar in the RP world of Taijitu.
