Paulie B's Garden Party
« on: February 11, 2015, 01:52:47 AM »
Right Honorable Legislators of the Taijituan Ecclesia,

Though not a citizen myself, I feel great love for this region: its community, its jokes, its revolutionary spirit, and its parties. I have discussed with certain Right Honorable members of this community holding a garden party this spring, inviting any player of NationStates to experience our great region. I think this would be a boon to activity and a great way to increase our presence on the world stage.

I therefore ask the Ecclesia to:

Discuss whether or not to allow this Garden Party to take place;
Vote on whether or not to allow this Garden Party to take place;
Decide on a date for this Garden Party and how long it should last;
Decide where to host this Garden Party, whether it be our forums or another place entirely;
and form a committee to discuss events that will occur at this Garden Party.

Though a private member of this region, I think that this Party would be a large enough event that I thought I would ask the Ecclesia their opinion, just as one may ask a city planning board for permission to hold a block party. I hope you decide on what is best for Taijitu and encourage a lively discussion!

Everything about this:  :wb:

I second the motion for the Ecclesia to discuss a lovely Garden Party, which I of course favor throwing. We could dedicate a sub-forum to cultural events and have garden themes for a week, perhaps two. Pauline would be the perfect emcee for such an event.

It would be a delight to host such an event here. I heartily support this and shall render forth more useful things than, "YAY A PARTY" soonish... once my brain is less mushy and more rested.

I think it would be great if it were a caravan, and we'd visit the many gardens of the many regions that have embassy with us.

I've been looking forward to this for quite some time, and heartily support it. The question then is the actual nitty gritty details.

I think it would be most appropriate to create a temporary subforum on the boards. What would go into that subforum is a wholly different matter. I think it might be appropriate for the Ecclesia to delegate this decision making power to a committee, as voting on every single board and thread would doubtlessly be a mess. It might also help to draw up a schedule of certain events.

As for date and length. If this is meant to be spring, then Tonnerral would be the earliest we could hold it, but that would only give us a handful of weeks to prepare and get the word out. I think it would be okay if necessary to push things back to mid-spring during Ignal, or even back to Sidéral. As for the length, I think at least a week is probably appropriate. I can't imagine it lasting any longer than two weeks.

Methinks our Citizen-Liaison should head the Party Planning Committee, given his community focus. Seems to fit right into the job description.

Ignal could work, gives us a bit of planning room.

I would like to move that the Ecclesia forms a Party Planning Committee, headed by the Citizen-Liasion and consisting of at least three but no more than five other individuals.

This sounds like a good idea to me, as it's more consistent with our direct, participatory democracy.

I support what's been suggested so far. The only question then is how to select the members. One option would be the Citizen-Liason selects, another would be a quick multi-member election of some kind, another would be for the bill to specify.

Personally, I think we can probably mash together a vote approving the party into a vote to select the committee. We run an approval vote, with the options being everyone who volunteers, nay to holding the party, and abstain. If nay gets a majority of those voting, then no party, else the top 3-5 people endorsed by a majority of those voting go onto the committee, breaking ties in order of who volunteered.

If this is an idea people like, then I think we can start collecting volunteers immediately.

I think then, it would be appropriate to start gathering the name of volunteers. If you're interested in being on the committee just post here saying so and I'll start a vote in a few days.
