Guillotine Act
« on: March 02, 2015, 05:19:53 AM »
We've become soft! Our streets used to be flowing with the blood of traitors of the revolution, and now we're allowing civil, pragmatic discussion to overpower our revolutionary fervor in the once great Ecclesia. Aren't you tired of talking? I am. Aren't you tired of having a stable government? Well grab your pikes and pitchforks. Sometimes we just need to send someone to madame la guillotine

I have the solution. Support me in this new act, and we'll once again have a reign of perpetual terror

Quote
The resolution revolution, an evolution that will find no conclusion. The Guillotine Act.

Article 1: The Lottery
  • Every Friday the Citizen-Initiator will draw a lottery of a random citizen, and they will stand trial for anti-citizen behavior.
  • The chosen citizen's innocence can only be proven by a 2/3rds majority vote.
  • If the Ecclesia finds them guilty, they shall be executed by guillotine on Tuesday.
  • If the Citizen-Initiator does not draw a lottery then the Citizen-Initiator will strand trial for anti-citizen behavior.
Article 2: On elected citizen positions
  • Elected citizens are as defined here, the Citizen-Delegate, the Citizen-Initiator, the Citizen-Sergeant, the Citizen-Liason, and the Citizen-Dean.
  • The elected citizens will be executed by guillotine at then end of their terms.

All right all right, we'll add a third article that states that we'll sew their head back to their body.

But only after parading it around on a pike for a good show.

Very well. I approve of this symbol of death brought back from our revolutionary youth.

The law is unacceptable in its current state. It needs to be clarified and edited:

- There are several typos ('strand trial', 'then' in the last subsection).
- In the first clause, they is ambiguous (as written the pronoun could refer to the Citizen-Initiator).
- The specified days for trial and execution should refer to our Revolutionary calendar.

- Article 2 will be a nuisance to update when new elected positions are created. The Ecclesia, hypothetically, could refuse to update the law, thereby shielding new officials their proper fate. I think the scope should be expanded to include all elected officials. We can leave in the existing clause to ensure a consistent supply of heads to sate our revolutionary bloodlust.
- The words proven implies that innocence is a matter of truth, whereas it is in fact granted by the Ecclesia. This could be clarified.
- I don't see the need for a trial if the Citizen-Initiator fails to choose a citizen. Immediate beheading serves as a better deterrent.

The Guillotine Act.

Article 1: The Lottery

1. Every Primidi the Citizen-Initiator will draw a lottery of a random citizen, and the selected citizen will stand trial for anti-citizen behavior. On months with a Citoyenide, an additional lottery will be held then.
2. The chosen citizen's acquittal can only be granted by a two-thirds vote of the Ecclesia.
3. If the Ecclesia finds the citizen guilty, he or she shall be executed by guillotine on the following Jocidi.
4. If the Citizen-Initiator does not draw a lottery then he or she shall face summary execution.

Article 2: Elected Citizens

1. Elected citizens are as defined here as any office elected by the Ecclesia; including, but not limited to, the Citizen-Initiator, Citizen-Delegate, and Dean of the University of the Glorious Revolution, and any citizen appointed to an office by an elected official; including, but not limited to, the Citizen-Diplomat and Citizen-Liaison.
2. The elected citizens will be executed by guillotine at the end of their terms.

The peculiar dating in the first section essentially allows for a trial every ten days, and an execution four or five days later.

Vive la Taijitu! Vive la Révolution Glorieuse!

This leaves out the most important aspect of the guillotine. Where shall we conduct the beheadings of traitors? I believe in the City Centre a most suitable location.

I specified the Place de la Révolution, which could simply be a forum thread in the Zocalo board.

I think "he or she" can be replaced with a singular "they", those snooty prescriptivists me damned. I also think the appropriate term is "anti-civil activity", not "anti-citizen behavior".
