The nomination period lasted the length of a full work week. In that time both Gulliver and Elu were nominated alongside the incumbent. Gulliver informed me he had no interest in accepting the nomination. Elu asked if he should run, and I was perfectly willing to accept that as a statement of intent should he desire to run. I spoke with him last night and he told me he thought it best if he didn't run, given obligations elsewhere.
I would prefer a contested race myself but the fact is that both candidates nominated alongside Of The Us ultimately chose not to run. After five days? I have to conclude that only one person wants to the job this go-around. Not the most exciting election but I don't want to get into the habit of keeping nomination periods open past the point when all realistically interested candidates have declared.
