The Holy Principate of Collatica
"Ex Uno Disce Omnes"

Collatica is ruled officially through the collaboration of the Rex-Divinitus (King by Divine Influence) and the Holy Senate. On the death of the current Rex-Divinitus, a new one is elected from and by the Patrician (High Priests of the Ancient Latican religion). The Senate is supposedly elected by all citizens over the age of 18. This has been the case for several centuries. However the increasing involvement of the Patrician in Senate affairs has allowed the church a great deal more influence in the election of Senators and has led to the dilution of democracy nationwide.

I. Officia Rex-Divinitus
Office of the Rex-Divinitus

The Patrician have been electing Collatica's Divine Rulers from their own commune for over a millenia. Previously the power of the Rex-Divinitus had been absolute. Their power, reasoning and divinity was seen as incorruptible. However after the revolt of 1789 the people were granted official representation in the nation's new legislative, the Holy Senate. In modern day Collatica, power is shared between the Senate and his Divinity, though the Rex-Divinitus does maintain absolute control over both the church and military. Detailed below is the current Rex-Divinitus of Collatica.

His Holy Grace, Rex-Divinitus Lucius III, Rex-Regis and Patrician-Maximus of all Collatica.

Born under the name of Luke Gracchus on September 29th 1946 in the culturally and economically rich Esturia, Lucius led a privileged early life. His father was a well known local businessman and member of the renowed Domus Gracchus, one of the oldest and respected families of the province. Lucius graduated from the Universita Montis at the age of 26 with a high distinction. From there he joined the Patrician (clergy) in 1970 and began his work spreading the Divine word of the Gods back in his home province. Lucius only adopted his current traditional Latican name upon ascending to the High Council of the Patrician in 1989 and was permitted a vote in electing the Rex-Divinitus. Upon the death of the Glorious Marcus IV in 1999 Lucius was elected and ascended to his current office.

Thus far his reign has been associated with the re-glorification of the ancient latican religion and a renewal of faith among the people of Collatica. Propagators beyond the reach of the Latican realm claim this is due to a new wave of religious propaganda, intimidation tactics and influence of the Patrician in Senate affairs, though by the people these antagonists are seen as nothing more than blasphemers, and Lucius remains in their eyes uncorrupted.

II. Officus Senatus Sanctus
Offices of the Holy Senate

The Holy Senate has only been in existence as the nations official legislative since the late 18th century after the revolt of 1789. It's origins were hardly of the democratic principles it proclaimed, comprised of a closely knit aristocratic elite. Since then however it's become open to any citizen over the age of 21 who can garner the necessary support. In modern-day Collatica it houses 150 Senators from all provinces of Collatica, they are elected by all citizens over the age of 18. Since the reign of the latest Rex-Divinitus however, a devout and traditional member of the Patrician, the workings and elections of the Senate have been severely influenced by the politically advancing Patrician, though this is not well-known publically. Detailed below are the leaders of the Senate and government.

Magistrix-Senatus Marie Hammond, Mistress of the People and Leader of the Holy Senate of Collatica.

This office is one elected by the Senate itself as her senior representative to the Rex-Divinitus and nation. The Magister-Senatus appoints all cabinet staff which is then confirmed by a vote of the Senate and approval of the Divine authority. The cabinet and it's leader work closely with the Rex-Divinitus to govern the realm. Though Marie like all Collaticans remains loyal to her faith she is well known for promoting the rights of the common people and the principles of democracy, despite the best efforts of the senior Patrician.

Magister-Maris John Lawton, Master of the Sea and Consul of Foreign Affairs.

This office is appointed by the Magister-Senatus though must be approved by both the Rex-Divinitus and Holy Senate. As such the Rex-Divinitus is highly involved in the appointment of all cabinet positions. The Magister-Maris is responsible for all Foreign Affairs on behalf of His Divinity. The current occupier of this office is well known throughout the nation for his diplomatic approach to politics, and closeness to the current more controversial leader of the Senate, Marie Hammond.

Patricianus Magister-Militum Marcus Verlyk, Master of the Soldiers and Elder of the Patrician.

The Magister-Militum holds the office equivalent to that of a Minister of Defence. Given the absolute authority of the Rex-Divinitus over the military this office is appointed soley by His Grace, though it still appears as an office of the Holy Senate. It is no surprise then that the current Rex-Divinitus as a conservative member of the Patrician has appointed a fellow Elder of the High Council to such a position of power. This allows the church a greater influence in the affairs of the cabinet and Senate. Marcus is both a skilled and experienced soldier, but a devout and senior member of the Patrician.
