Recap of 2007 NHL 150 weekend
Mark Anderson started the weekend off by scoring his 3rd career pole over Garth Tander. Throughout the weekend, he looked very strong, and it continued into the race, as Anderson quickly built up a lead from the start. The race order shuffled around quite a bit in the early stages, with Chris Head moving up the fastest. By lap 3, he was in 3rd. Meanwhile, Mar Skaife was having the day he didn't need. He wasn't making any progress, and, in fact, had lost a few positions. On lap 20, the first of several incidents occurred, as Fountain and Bobby made contact in turn 2, and spun out. Turn 2 would later prove to be a trouble spot. During the next turn, Jeff Hazard began slipping back for no apparent reason. This ended on lap 32, when James Fountain made contact with him, in turn 2. Fountain's car did not survive the second impact, forcing him to retire from the race. Naughton pitted during the caution, as he flat spotted the tires, leading a lap in the process, and under some bizarre circumstances, Chris Head led a lap too, despite neither him nor Anderson pitting. He then fell 11 seconds back, somehow. On lap 45, Naughton set the fastest lap of the race, a 19.634, but 3 laps later, he would drop out of the race due to an accident off turn 2 with Skaife, which brought out the 3rd caution. With only 5 cars still running before they got to the 1/4 mark, race command gave a message to the drivers asking them to be less aggressive, especially in turn 2. Some fans have since criticized race command since then, as the action got very sparse. Still, though, it ended the constant stream of DNF's. Lap 108 saw the beginning of the only round of pit-stops, as Chris Head pulled in for service. Or, at least it would've, if Bobby and Hazard hadn't have spun off of 2, creating the final caution. Everyone but Head pitted, and a great sto saw Garth Tander slip out ahead of Mark Anderson. Chris Head started on the tail end of the lead lap, and slowly began catching the two slower cars of Jeff Hazard and Ricky Bobby. He eventually passed them. A few laps later, Tander would catch them, but could not pass them, which allowed Anderson to catch up, but it was too late for Mark as Garth Tander returned to Victory Lane, welcomed by the thunderous cheers of his teammates.
