The Republic of Chavic is a very large, safe planet, renowned for its barren, inhospitable landscape; it's small, but fierce military; and its pinnacle of technology ship production. Its hard-nosed, hard working, intelligent population of 400 million enjoy a sensible mix of personal and economic freedoms, while the political process is open and the people's right to vote held sacrosanct.
The medium-sized government juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Education, Defense, and Health Care. There is no income tax, everyone pays a flat sales tax of 15%. A robust private sector is led by the Beef-Based Agriculture industry, followed by Ship Manufacturing, and Uranium Mining.
Chavic has an interplanetary reputation for compassion, strict term limits have been applied to all elected offices, minority children spend hours being transported to schools miles away from home, all capable citizens are required to carry firearms, and referendum can be called for any law at the request of at least one third of the voting population. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Chavic's national animal is the eagle, which was brought over by colonists and now roams the alien wilderness; and its currency is the drake. Chavic has many thriving trade routes and is quietly known for it's quality mercenaries.
