Varkourian Colonization
« on: February 19, 2007, 10:12:00 AM »

President Gribeauval was leaning over his desk looking down over a map of Taijitu. A group of Generals stood near the window talking about Fort Paix.

"So why do we need this bit of land?" The President asks.

One of the Generals stops talking and quickly walks over to the President. He points on the map.
"Other nations are expanding and we need to keep up, we have the resources.
The United Imperium are colonizing all over Taijitu, here, here, here and here.
Eluvatar has just recently claimed this enormous bit, east of S. Dixie and we have reports that Mercantilist States are claiming the islands between Eluvatar and Flemingovia.

"I see..." The President says and looks up at the other Generals.

"We will be closer to our allies President... and think about the trading possiblities" Another General says. They knew they had convinced the President.

"Okay then. Send as many as you need" The President says. He sits down and stares at the map.

"Yes President. We can send the 4th, 5th and the 9th fleet tomorrow."

The General tells the President the plan. Two forces will be deployed north of the island and one in the south. They will meet somewhere in the middle and set up fortifications.

After the meeting the President gets up and leaves the room. The Generals are left smiling near his desk.

The North:

Quartus Group and Quintus Group land on the beaches north of the island.
Scouts land first and check the area for inhabitants, but do not find any. After securing the beaches carefully they give the go-ahead for the main force.
Soldiers start moving equipment to the grassy area above the beaches, while tanks and jeeps are loaded off ships.

"Commander, we have the beaches. No problems Sir."

"Carry on"

The South

Nonus Group arrives in the south. Scouts find an ancient look-out post but no inhabitants in the area.
Soldiers, tanks and jeeps pile onto the beach.

"Commander, beaches taken."

"Very good, carry on"

"Commander, Quartus Group here."

"Yes Quartus Group?"

"Man down. I repeat man down. Blue on blue Sir"

"How did this happen?"

"I have no idea Sir, the troops are abit jumpy."

"Okay, I demand an inquiry ASAP. Out"

"Yes Sir. Out"

"Commander, Quintus Group here,
Work on the Fort has started Sir"

"Good work Quintus Group, Out"

"Yes Sir, Out"

Quintus Group leader Molyneux puts down his radio and looks at the construction site. This Fort will be the biggest outside The People's Republic of Varkour.

General Beauchamp arrives on the island by helicopter. He is there with representatives from the Varkourian Government and a hand full of Varkourian journalists.

A small stage has been built in front of the Forts main gate. The crowd are treated to champagne and appetizers, while Varkourian troops patrol the area.

General Beauchamp recieves an applause as he walks onto the stage. He does not smile, but carries on towards the podium.

"It gives me great pleasure to welcome everyone to this beautiful island for this prestigious international event.
I would also like to extend the warmest welcomes to our friends around the world.
In the last few weeks, we have seen a dramatic change on the Taijitu map. Nations are getting bigger, stronger and wealthier. In order to keep up with the rest of Taijitu we must too expand our borders. "

The General straightens his collar.

"I officially name this island Comte de Chavagnac"

"Thank you very much."

The crowd applauds and whistles. They all raise their champagne glasses and shout "A votre sante!".

Towns have started to appear all over Comte de Chavagnac the following weeks. Mainly on the west coast.
The biggest town Blainville-sur-Orne has become the capital and already has a population of 1 million.
Thousands of people from Varkour have flocked to Comte de Chavagnac to purchase land and settle there.

Comte de Chavagnac has opened its borders to immigrants across Taijitu.
