The Canadian Global Battles
« on: February 04, 2008, 04:50:16 AM »
Somewhere South of Feniexia

The Rommel-class submarine Xavier Rommel moved silently towards the Feniexian coast. The submarine was the largest ever built and one of a kind. It was also the most unique submarine in the world. The Xavier Rommel was a submarine aircraft carrier, measuring 225 meters long and armed with 8 torpedo tubes as well as 8 disappearing naval guns for close land bombardments and 6 cruise missile tubes for further land attacks. But the thing that makes this a truly destructive submarine is it's ability to carry 15 UCAVs called Barracudas. The Barracudas have been equipped with the same propulsion technology found in Harriers. This is the Xavier Rommel's maiden voyage and first real combat. This submarine was built to show the Imperial Government that submarines and not surface ships are the true rulers of the seas. Captain Cammell was on the bridge as the submarine moved underwater. he stood silently as the crew made sure the ship was ready for war. An ensign came up to the captain.

"Sir, we have picked up a Feniexian signature on radar. A supply ship heading to the Dysanii. Seven miles away."

Captain Cammell nodded and smiled. "Surface the ship and open the hanger bay doors. Prepare the squadron to attack the supply ship." The crew scrambled and soon the captain's orders were issued. Outside, two large hanger doors opened at the front of the submarine. The Barracudas quickly hovered from the hanger and soared above the ship. Ten flew to the supply ship seven miles away. The other five flew above the Xavier Rommel in case of air attack. From computers in the Xavier Rommel, the UAVs were being controlled by pilots like a video game. Captain Cammell looked at one computer screen. It showed a Feniexian ship on screen and then the pilot pushed the trigger once and then a missile flew at the ship. The other pilots on the computers did the same. Soon, the target was burning and and sinking. The UAVs turned and headed back to the sub. The Xavier Rommel turned towards the UAVs so they could land. The UAVs hovered and landed. Captain Cammell smiled. "Gentlemen, we have broken the back of PI. I want us to submerge and head south to the Acadian and Feniexian Dysaniian coast. We need to blockade it. But after we submerge, I want a moment of silence for those sailors who died in our attack." The Xavier Rommel slipped below the seas and headed south.

High Administration, Department of Warfare
Emergency conference, 20 minutes after the attack

The administrators of the various parts of the Feniexian Forces, the Generals under them, Fay Celen and the Emperor himself were silently sitting in the conference room in one of the higher floors of the Citadel. Eventually, Navy Administrator Lenneth Case broke the silence. "If I might explain the situation. The SS Bell was sunk about 90 sea miles away by submarines. As we speak, multiple Cyclone ASW helicopters should have reached the attack site to follow and engage the submarines; one cruiser was also dispatched, since the scanner indicates that the submarine was extremely large, and might pose too much of a threat for some helicopters."

He took a short break.

"Usually, if such things happen, I would not call for the rest of the Administration or the Emperor. The reason for this conference however is the identity of the attacker. Ladies and gentlemen - the submarines were clearly identifiable as Canadian vessels. Their signatures and submarine classes matched exactly, as did their comm frequencies."

Again, silence. Then, after a few seconds, Fay Celen began speaking. "Maybe a false flag operation? I don't think the Canadian Empress would authorize such an attack. However...the Empress no longer has power over Canada. Their new Lord Protector, King, reigns supreme over the Canadian Empire since the last elections. So, how would you say we should response?"

"The submarines should be hunted down and forced to either surrender or be destroyed, before we do anything other." Case stated. "Also, I advise to activate the reserve forces and national guard, or at least, bring them in battle readiness. Also, we should switch from Defcon 2 to 1 now; we might have to expect further attacks soon. But also an very important issue is the defense of our territory on the southern continent. We cannot afford to lose it, especially with a large part of our forces there. Especially important would be to move more support vehicles to District 16. According to my informations, most aircrafts have been drawn back to our mainlands after the war was over; also, we only have about 4 ships there, two of the Zumwalt class, one being an aircraft carrier, and one being a heavy anti-land warship. Sending aircrafts to District 16 should be no problem; we have enough airports there and our planes don't need long to reach the southern continent. But to get ships over there, we would have to break through the naval barrier the Myrorians informed us."

Clearwater and Akira nodded; no complaints.

"I agree - but what I will also do now, is open up diplomatic contact to Canada. They were our allies in many wars; we defended them in the Dysaniian and the American wars, and also, we brought peace to them in the civil war a few years ago. I have to speak to the Empress." With those words, Emperor Cordre ended the conference, and then entered the communications room next to the conference room, where he called for Empress Alia immediately.

Imperial Palace, Ottawa

Alia was holding the declaration of war that the Parliament had authorized. From what she heard, a supply ship from Feneixia had already been sunk. She had been seated at her desk for the past hour. It was all my fault. I should never have signed that authorization. A ring came on her phone. She picked it up. "Hello. The is Empress Alia." The voice that responded was one that she expected to hear, but didn't want to. "Emperor Nathaniel? I expected you to call. What do I owe the pleasure?"

Near Halifax

The High Seas Fleet was steaming west to Validus. The High Seas Fleet was going to meet up with a few squadrons of the Valideen Navy and they would bring the fight to the Feniexians on their own turf. Word had come to Marko Hudson, the Lord Admiral of the Navy and the Commanding Officer of the High Seas Fleet, that the PI fleet was now preparing to blockade the Dysaniian coast. Also a group of inhabited islands northwest of Loyan were being occupied by the Canadian Army while the new Eastian Squadron was protecting them from Feniexian or Loyanese attacks. But right now, it was up to Marko to lead his navy against...against old friends. What has the world come to? Now we have turned our backs on old friends. The Empress needs to do something about it. The fleet mooved quickly, but the Lord Admiral was still thinking. Something must be done.

Emperor Cordre's grip on the phone tightened. He spoke in a slow, controlled tone.
"Alia. You have to stop King. Have you been informed of the orders he gave your troops? Are you aware of what he is doing?"

Alia breathed deep. "I know exactly what King is doing. I signed the declaration of war. The government has agreed with him. They feel that your attack on the Valideen occupying that island far to the north was unprovoked and should be dealt with. And they think your occupaction of Dysanii is hampering with the re-unification of Dysanii. I am sorry, but it had to be done. I have to agree. My father would have agreed with you and would have fought alongside you, but I want to end imperialism. That island is claimed by both of you and belongs to neither. Until either of you backs down, Canada will stand by AC." She hung up. She was the empress of a democracy. She pushed the thoughts of regret and betrayal behind her. Her mother always told her that democracy works for Canada and that it should be fought for. She unrolled a map and overlooked it. The war was going well for the AC. No moves to attack Feniexia or Acadia have been made. Not yet.

Kevin Handerson stood on the deck of his new ship, the heavy missile cruiser Alaska and the flagship to the newly created Eastian Squardron. The Alaska was the newest ship among the Ontario-class battlecruisers. She was faster then her other sisters, built to hunt down convoys, break their guards and deliver a powerful punch. Then hightail it out before subs or aircraft found her. Luckily, though the Alaska was built to have AA defenses, she would be going in with her own escort of Brandenburg frigates and Iroqious destroyers. Just to be safe. Kevin looked on. His new shiny captain's uniform looked as bright as the red deck. The crew were putting together the last preparations for the voyage. He walked to the bridge and looked over the crew. "Alright, it's time. Tell the other ships that we are ready to leave." The crew saluted and went to their stations. The Alaska pushed away from the dock and slowly moved out of Halifax harbor. From there, open ocean. The Alaska and her escort moved out and took formation. Kevin wasn't a man of many words. He didn't like to make long speeches. SO he took the intercom. "This is the captain....Good hunting."

OOC: This is a Canadian occupation of the three tiny Nihilium islands, the one island far north of Takasia and the Valideen island, the one east of Takasia for strategic importance, and finally the group of orange of islands in northwest of Loyan.

South Caicos Island

The planes dropped their paratroopers regiment on the western island of the new Canadian overseas territories, the Microeastian Islands. Landing ships dropped supplies and other materials to build the new base on the island. Colonel Davidson overlooked the island from the single mountain on it. His helicopter landed him and his staff on the mountain as well as a flag raising party. The General Staff ordered that these uninhabited jungle islands be claimed by the Canadian government because of their strategic value to the war effort. Davidson looked on in pride. The Canadian flag was raised on the mountain and the soldier started their work.

Grank Turk Island

The center island, just northwest of Loyan was a beautiful emerald island in a turquoise sea. The commanding officer of the forces on the Grand Turk Island, Colonel Harold Smith, overlooked the first base being set up. The defenses were almost finished as well. Missile emplacements and heavy and light artillery pits were the basic defense systems. The jungles made it impossible for the use of armor, so the Canadians sent paratroopers and rifle units to the islands to defend them from invasion as well as a helicopter squadron. The new fort was named Fort Providenciales. After the war, the Canadian government wished to send civilians to populate the islands. Until then, Harold glorifyed his new position as Militant-Governor of the Grand Turk Island. Harold looked around. Helicopters could be heard over the island.

North Caicos Island

The northern island was the closest island to the Feniexian waters, so it was the most heavily defended. Over 3000 men populated the island while missile and artillery emplacements were placed around the island. The new base still wasn't built yet, but it was called Caicos City. At the end of the war, these bases would turn into towns, but right now it was called Fort North Caicos. The soldiers were armed and prepared to defned the island. An airfield was being built. Explosions were heard as the trees were cleare din one area where the airfield would be. The bombers that would be placed on the island would be able to bomb important areas in Feniexia. The Feniexians would most likely send a force to occupy the islands so that there were no problems with the Canadians so close to the Feniexian mainland.

OOC:

Doesn't Val already occupy one of those islands you are trying to occupy?  Site Bravo I believe is one of the islands above Takasia.

And isn't it contradictory to your "non-imperialistic" policies to be turning such islands into colonies?

Oh, woops. I guess it will be two. And no, these is the occupation of two uninhabited islands that have a strategic advantage in this war.In order for imperialism, I need to force something on people be it, force or my economy.

High Administration, Department of Warfare

"So the Empress betrayed us."
"Probably. We still do not know much. After all, King could have been brainwashing her."
"Empress Alia is not that stupid. Misguided, surely, but not stupid. She would not fall that easily for some brainwashing campaigns. We have to face the facts - Canada is our enemy now."
"How will the soldiers respond? They have fought many wars with the Canadians at their side, and the last reports from District Omicron showed that most soldiers, despite the political difficulties between our nations, used to...to play hockey with those soldiers who could take up their arms against their former allies at any time."
"Don't forget; the situation has similar impacts on the Canadian soldier's morale."
"Well, let's not talk about the Empress's whereabouts. There are far more important things that should be discussed at the moment."

Most of the Administrators and their Generals nodded. Airforce Administrator Clearwater then pressed a few keys on the keyboard on her chair, and on the large screen, in the middle of the conference room, a satellite image of the Northern Caicos Island appeared. Then, the picture zoomed several locations on it and marked them with red borders.

"As you see, the Canadian forces are currently following similar strategies as the Valideen forces did; they try to establish a missile- and airbase close to our mainland to gain tactical advantages over our defense systems. They seem to be a bit smarter than the Valideens however; the island is far away enough that their missile systems should be fully usable against our ICMs; and sadly, Project Thanatos Alpha is still far away from being used even for testing purposes, so we will have to confront them more...directly. If they are successful in building this base, they would pose a much more serious threat than at the moment."

She looked towards Imperial Navy Administrator Case, but Case shook his head.
"I don't think we should take any Naval actions in Coalition controlled sea territory until we destroyed the fleets approaching our corelands. While we would have enough ships to wage a full-scale sea superiority war against the Canadian Navy without much problems, I am concerned that other Coalition nations would take advantage of that - while our Navy is on offensive missions, we would have to use the Coreland Defense Systems, and that would both drain our resources unnecessarily and endanger our citizens needlessly."

"Ms. Clearwater?" Fay Celen drew her attention to her. "Can't we use the prototypes from Project 2018? The island is far away from all known civilizations so that we might use nuclear weaponry without harming any nations civil population with fallout or radiation."

"But...as you already said, those are prototypes." She verbally focused the last word. "There haven't been much testing yet, and..."

"Well, we can test them on the battlefield." Celen cut her. "If they fail, we can still take other measures against that Canadian facility."

OOC:
Just a little comment on one of your last IC posts in this thread Canada; you said Alia's mother, a woman from Feniexia, would have told her that democracy works? Well, I think that's a bit strange for someone who was raised with the constant propaganda that meritocracy is the only worthy system and democracy fails horribly :/ . Done.
