"What's in the bag Elis?" the Queen asks.
"Nothing mam, some personal articles I had Prince Delfos fetch for me," Elis replies.
The queen look at her with suspicion. Here she was, the younger sister of a foreign head of state, who had implore on a sleep over with her daughter. And at the same night, an assassin breaks into the palace and tries to take Sophia's life. What are the intentions of the Loyalist? These nations, that her husband call friends, appear to be up to something. Can they be trusted? It was all so confusing for her...
"Come Elis."
Queen Lalya leads Elis into a empty hallway, and up to a oak frame door. She takes out a heavy set of keys and unlocks it. She opens it and both of them walk in. It was a dim room with no windows. Queen Lalya switches on the light and closes the door behind her.
In the middle of the room were two chairs and a coffee table between them. The Queen motions Elis to sit. Elis complies and takes the seat on the left. The Queen Lalya takes the right, and begins her questioning.
"I know your up to something Elis, or is it your brother who send you on this errand?" The Queen's voice was harsh and temper.
"What? No, I just wanted to get away from the countryside. You think I had something to do with this?"
"No, but I don't think your completely innocent. You're up something... Now tell me what happen in Sophia's room."
Elis told her about hearing something move in the room, and woke up to see the assassin.
"They tell me that the assassin was hit by eleven 9mm pistol rounds. You had a gun on you didn't you?" The Queen nods toward the bag.
"My brother gave it to me for protection."
"..they also found that part of the body's rib case was cracked, most likely from a well place kick."
"I play soccer in my spare time back home..."
"Lies. You're not what you say you are, I'm not buying it. Are you even the Chancellor's sister?"
"I have a picture of me and my brother in my wallet, want to see it mam?"
Queen Lalya glares at her. She was too cool and calm to be your average adolescent girl.
"While I am wary about your true intentions, I do thank you for saving my daughter. I would let you off without any consequences, but I'll be keeping an eye on you."
"Would I be able to see Sophia again?"
"That would be up to me and her father to decide on a later date...For now, I would like to ask you to leave."
---
Elis stood outside the main palace gate with her suitcase. Sure enough, the amount of guards had increased with last night's intrusion. One of them eyed her suspiciously before walking off to patrol the nearby areas.
A black sedan pulls up beside her. Elis opens the door and slide in. She notice a tray of rice and chicken on the seat.
"I'm sure your hungry commander," a sleepy Jade muttered. Elis gives him a grin.
"Up all night private?"
"You bet your stars I was, that was a long lonely night for me."
"Yet you fail to detect the assassin's movement?"
"Hey boss, I drove around the block several times and I even use the night vision. I'm not special forces, I don't see like you do. Can you blame me for not being able to see a trained assassin that walks through walls?"
"Your doubting yourself, it's your lack of confidence that blinds you."
"Give me a break boss. You seem to have done okay without me."
"Sooner or later, your ass is going to be on the line. When that day comes, I'm leaving you to the Night Lords. I'm sure they'll enjoy ripping your balls off."
"Harsh words Commander." Jades shifted the gear out of park, and step on the gas pedal. The black sedan zoom off into the city.
