Hearts of Loyan
« on: September 15, 2007, 01:37:43 AM »
After several weeks of proper planning, the White Hearts of Loyan send out over two dozens of its volunteer members to the warzone of Canada. This is the first oversea operation ever for the newly found organization. The mission is dedicated to providing medic care to all in need of it, a true test to the principles and ideals that are the foundation of White Hearts and all its members...

Standing together in the middle of the gate's waiting floor, I hold her in embrace for the last time...

Mai leans close to me, her warm head against my chest. The buzzing warmth gave comfort to me as I wait. Her warm sweet breath was like a sleeping gas as I breath in. Her arms begin to tighten on our blissful hug. It was a difficult moment for both of us; it will be three months before I can see her again...three months without my beloved angel.

"You be careful..." she mutters. Her hands grasp tight on my face.

"I will... don't worry about me." I kiss her in the cheek. “You take care as well…”

Her red eyes betrays her anxiety. It was distressing to see her like this; I begin to have second thoughts on leaving. But I was on a personal mission that couldn’t be ignore. Giving up on it will be selfish and evil…

The gate bell sounds, announcing the arrival of Flight CN23. Outside the windows, a two engine airliner parks itself sideways on the tarmac. A big red maple leaf catches my eyes, pulling me in like a beacon. Canada…where war and conflict was tearing apart the peace and livelihood of many people.

Explosions, firefights on city streets, fighter jets and missiles flying out from the sky…it was all something I couldn’t imagine…people killing each other without recourse…all blindly justify by pride and politics.

“I have to go now…”

“Be safe!”

“I’ll keep my promise to you…I’ll come back.”

I try to move, but my body refuses to respond. I just want to stay there…beside Mai…I didn’t want to let go.  Mai notices and she pushes me toward the gate.

“I‘ll be okay…you just go, you have a job to do!” Mai said.

As I join my other White Heart colleagues, I couldn’t help but look back one last time. Mai waves at me, and I wave back. I take a long look at her, inlaying the image of her in my head. I will need it for the nights to come.

"I love you Mai!"

"Just come back alive!" she replies.

I turn away and walk forward into the jet bridge. As the gate doors close behind me, my heart drops into a freefall, a perpetual feeling of being pull away from something. The warmth left my body…and coldness sets in.
