"Doctor, any word?" asked a nurse wearing scrubs and a face mask.

"No, the lab couldn't find this in any of the known viruses." Said a doctor wearing scrubs, a white lab coat, and a face mask.

"So we know its a virus?"

"Yes, I didn't believe that it wasn't a virus because bacteria doesn't infect in this way." The Doctor was sitting behind a desk, with a mountain of paper on top. "So, do we have any new cases today?"

The nurse who was standing near the door, "No, luckily, however Mr. Perkins and Mrs. Jackson have been moved down to the two-four."

The doctor looked above his glasses, "Why wasn't I notified of the move?"

"I guess it was just all the chaos on the floor, we do have 104 patients. All of whom are infected with this Virus," replied the nurse.

"Well, keep me posted. I have to make some calls. Have a good day Michelle."

"Ya, I'll try. Bye"

Michelle walked out of the doctors office and closed the door. Soon after the door was closed the doctor reached over and picked up the telephone and dialled a number. "This is Doctor Carl Mantiga at the Oasis Island Hospital. I would like to speak with the Regional Medical Director please,". . . "Hello Dick, how are you today?"..."Aye, well things aren't look good out here, we had 20 more new inductees yesterday. However we don't have any new ones today,". . . "We could use all the help we can get out here 104 people on my floor, and another 43 on Pats. Two more were transfered down there today,".   .   ."well see you soon then Dick, bye". . . He hung up the phone.

"Dick, the island is inundated with infected. We have lost 23 all ready, and there are another 200 nearing the final stages. My medical staff has been sliced in half. We need to find a cure, fast!"

"I understand Carl but right now there is nothing we can do for these people except make them as comfortable as possible and try and treat it with current medicines. Our top scientists are working around the clock to find a cure. But its the damnedest thing, it keeps Mutating."

"What!" exclaimed Doctor Mantiga.

"The lab discovered that 7 of the samples were different. The base virus is the same for each one, but the Virus is mutating. Its going to take awhile to get this under control, but they have found a name for it, Human Infectious Virus Syndrome or HIVS (pronounced Hives). I know not very specific but we still don't know what we are dealing with."

"So HIVS then, eh. I'll have to tell the nurses or rather my remaining nurses."

"Yes, I know we have more coming in to help, they will be arriving in the next day or two. Also, I have some bad news."

"What is that, it has spread."

"My god! Where?"

"Three other islands are reporting cases of HIVS. It is getting closer to the mainland."

We have set up a lab on an uninhabited island 100 nautical miles east of the infected zone. Were our top scientists in the area are working day and night to find a cure. They do have live virus in the lab, however it is kept under a strict quorinteen in its self. The Facility is also under the protection of the Valideen Marine Corps.

You may send your scientists to New Sheridan, were they will be sent to the Island.

A squad (ten) of Bustian Regular Engineers stepped out in general combat gear, relaxed with pistols holstered and their XM8s slung over their shoulders.  They are there to act as a security force for the medical team and to protect, drive, and maintain the expandable van.

The news anchor sat behind a blueish desk with a dark purple background, "We interrupt our regular scheduled broadcasting for this urgent news bulletin. 30 minutes ago the President of the Medical Society of Validus finished a press conference about the HIVS virus. This is the first time in over a week that the government had held a press conference about the issue. Stated in the interview the number of islands under quarantine has risen to 43 and the number of infected persons has risen to 46,000. Also stated in the press conference was the complete air travel restrictions in a 40km zone around each island and the Navy has set up a naval blockade of primary shipping routs in the area to prevent the spread of the virus. Scientists from around the world have come to Validus to try and find a cure and it has been reported that they have a working prototype cure which can eliminate the Base virus. We are going to keep you updated on any new updates on the HIVS virus. Thank you,"

With no new reported cases in the past 2 weeks the Spread of HIVS has some how stopped in its progression towards the Mainland. This is not a cause of relief however. It could be that the Virus has mutated into a new strand which we are immune to. However it could be a matter of time before the HIVS virus mutates back into something that could be of pandemic proprtions. We are currently waiting for the results from the International Team of Doctors and Scientists working out of a lab in the southern Islands. We will have more information for you shortly.
