Defense and Arms Convention
« on: November 01, 2007, 11:23:16 PM »
Arms manufacturing and defense contracting are among the largest industries in Loyan, making up roughly seven percent of the GDP. It is a vast sector of the economy, employing roughly half a million people directly and another half a million through civil subcontractors. But now, anti-war sentiment spreading throughout the Republic and continuous spending cuts on the country's defense budget threaten to undermine the foundation of the industry. With domestic demand breaking down, Loyan's defense industry looks aboard for business as the State government pulls down old restrictions on arms export.

The December Defense and Arms Convention
A big welcome to our oversea guests who came here today!

In the vast empty showcase hall of Na Sui Civic Center, the footsteps of sales agents echo out in rhythm. Posters are hang and LCD screens are rig up on scaffolding. Agents fix up their tie and check their face for blemish. In one corner, stood the stand for Fighter Tech Loyan, the main producer of military aircraft for the LAA.

"Hows my makeup?" Lelo asks.
"You look great it's perfect," Laura, his cheeky assistant replies. "I have the ad movie loaded into the LCD screens, we're ready to go!"
"Not a moment too soon," Lelo remarks as he looks down on his watch. "Alright, let's get this show on the road!"

It has been a year since the government removed the export regulations on the company, and the directors were anxious to receive their first foreign orders. Before that, Fighter Tech Loyan was a state-control Fighter Aircraft Division of Loyanese Labs, serving solely to the Loyanese military. Many other companies and firms have been semi-privatized by the government, and they too were attempting to etch out a market share in the international market, dominated by Delfian and Xyraeli defense companies. This convention will be a important step in attracting costumers and establishing international awareness of Loyan's matured defense industry.

Francisco Guedes walks in the convention, he had in mind sniper accessories. Walks to an appealing stand and asks:
"Hello, what kind of scopes do you have here?"
"Do you have anything in mind?"
"Well...digital, night-vision, crap like that..."

"Well Sir, we do have the SCO-550 Divy, it might just be want you want."

Sales Agent Eric Gwan leads the Guedes to the back of the stand where he pull out a bubble wrapped scope system.

"We took a standard laser ranging scope and added an auto sighting mechanism. Most conventional scopes must be manually adjusted for the distance of the target, but with the Divy scope, all you have to do is put your target on the crosshair and pull this lever switch here. A built-in micro-computer will automatically calculate the sight adjustments and convey them to the scope mechanics. Once the scope has adjusted itself, the shooter simply resights and pulls the trigger, delivering a accurate shot every time without the hassle of manual sighting. Our company's software and engineering team is fully capable of fine-tuning the SCO-550 for any firearm, so I'm sure it will work perfectly with any gun you have in mind!"

Eric unwraps the carbon black scope and puts it on the table.

"Here is our Black skin model, with scratch resistance paint. The 550 weights in at two pounds, very light for its size. Titanium-aluminum alloy body with UHMW polymer construction. If you look here, you can see the ranging lever, adjustable and design to be located near the trigger of a gun. The laser ranger will provide accurate outputs at 30 meters minimal and 1200 meters maximum. Our current unit price is $2500 per scope with 2 year servicing plan. If you are interest in placing a large order, we'll be glad to give you a reasonable discount."

Lieutenant Colonel Garanin looked at the directory in his hand, pulled out a pen, and slowly crossed off every showcase he would not have to visit.  There was only one.  Silver Rice Incorporate.  He turned to the other two officers, all dressed in civilian business suits, one an Asian woman, Captain Denoba, and the other an unusually young Arab boy, Sabin.  Supposedly, he was a Lieutenant who was brought along with the other two senior officers as a sort of apprenticeship, but Garanin had seen through that immediately; the boy barely looked old enough to graduate high school.  He wasn't nearly old enough to have a university education and have been accepted into Cantr's officer corps.  But Emperor Daichi himself had picked out who would purchase Cantr's new army, including Garanin, and who was he to complain?

Garanin showed the other two the directory.  "According to Daichi's requests, we're going to have to take a look at just about every piece of equipment they have in this convention.  So, Denoba, you take Armour and Artillery Divisions, and Anyia Ballistic, Sabin, you take Combat Protection Firm, Gunship Division, and Personal Arms Division, and I'll take Naval Warfare, Air Defense, and Fighter Tech.  Let's go." Garanin left for B2, following the map to his destination.

Upon his arrival, he walked to the special showcase item, the YJ-83 Anti-Ship Missile, wondering what it could do.

(OOC: If you could just give me a quick little spiel concerning the YJ-83, the Kontak Reactive Armor, and the Next Generation Body Armor, it'll save me the effort of having three different characters ask for it and besides, given that these are special showcase items, there's probably someone giving a little speech about it to an assembled crowd.)

Presentation for YJ-83 Anti-Ship Missile

YJ-83
Military Designation: C-803 Sea Eagle
Type: Low Flying Anti-Ship Missile
Service Period: five years active service in Loyanese Navy
Engine: Turbojet
Speed: Mach 0.9 cruising, Mach 1.3 terminal
Range: 220 km maximum, 100km recommended
Warhead: 165 kg delayed armor piercing HE
Guidance: Inertial and terminal active radar/infrared seeker
Launch Platforms: surface ships, submarines, shore batteries

Introduction

The YJ-83 supersonic anti-ship missile is a major upgrade of the YJ-82, with extended range and improved guidance. The original YJ-82 itself is a superb weapon that has seen ten years of service in the Loyanese Navy and continual to serve as a effective deterrence against modern warships. We have taken aspects of the original and augmented with the latest Loyanese technologies to create a even better missile that will stay in step with naval countermeasures of the late.

In today's fleet actions, anti-ship missiles must deal in a ever increasing electronic combat environment. The YJ-83's advance monopulse radar homing system gives it a high resistance against jamming from enemy ships and aircraft. It can also be fitted with a dual infrared seeking or infrared/tv homing system, available on request by clients. These systems allow even more jamming resistance, increasing the chance of a first shot hit.

To further improve resistance against enemy countermeasures such as CIWS and air defense systems, the YJ-83 performs evasive maneuvers during the terminal stage to counter these threats. The missile is also compatible with many electronic systems, and can be linked with aircraft radar to allow target acquisition, mid-course correction and target information. All these features allow the YJ-83 to achieve a high standard of lethality compare to most anti-ship systems.

Operation

Target is acquire by airborne or shipborne radar. The target's location, range, and velocity is sent to the missile control system where the data is used to calculate a firing solution that will best place the missile once it reaches it's terminal phase. The firing solution is sent to the missile's inertia guidance systems. Once the firing command is given, the YJ-83 is launch out by a rocket boaster, which accelerates the missile to Mach 0.9 within a few seconds. Once this speed is reached, the rocket boaster drops off and the turbojet engine takes over.

During the midcourse, the missile flies under its inertia guidance system and may receive flight correction from airborne radar to maintain accuracy even if the target changes course or speed. A laser altitude system keeps the missile flying 20-30 m above the water to minimize detection until the missile is close enough.

At 15 to 18 kilometers from the targeted spot, the terminal radar guidance system switches on and searches the area for the target. If fitted with the infrared/tv imaging homing system, operators may select the targets visible to minimize collateral damage and increase resistance against countermeasures. The missile then accelerates to supersonic speed (>Mach 1.3) and drops down to 3-5m above the water. During it's progress to the acquire target, the missile performs a series of turn maneuvers to evade CIWS and air defense munitions.

Once the missile reaches it's target, the missile dives down to hit the ship at the waterline, maximizing damage and one hit kill probability. The missile uses its supersonic momentum to penetrate through the hull of the target. The high explosive warhead is set to explode once the missile is inside the hull.

Third party tests have shown that the YJ-83 has a hit probability as high as 98% against conventional warships, and a high chance against Rolling Airframe Missiles. Our analysts have shown that the YJ-83 is superior in effectiveness when compare to the Xyraeli Moskit anti-ship missile. Adding high standard manufacturing and module design to allow continual upgrade, the YJ-83 is a feasible choice for any navy needing deterrence against modern warships.

Cost

Unit price for our product vary depending on the specification of the client. The basic YJ-83 system is priced at $750,000. Our company also carries a $8 million Three Year Service plan that will maintain and service your YJ-83 systems. Upgrades will also come with a discount for Service plan clients. If needed, our well professed technical teams will convert and modify your existing systems to be compatible with our product.

A Smartly dressed man in a military suit enters the convention hall, his many medals frame the front his uniform. Unknown to everyone else, he is actually 5 Star General "Wallace" from the newly arrived Benaswaila. Glancing around his laser-glare quickly finds a stall selling various long range weaponry. Approaching the stall he unfastens a briefcase handcuffed to his wrist, inside it it bulging with Benaswailan currency, stepping into the stall (confidence oozing from every step) he inquires to a person standing at the stall,

"Hello, Uh... Lelo, I'm General Wallace from Benaswaila. I'm here today to hopefully start a new export deal with your nation. Now the reason I have aproached you is because." He drops his voice to a whisper."Benaswaila has recently done a study on our armed forces and equipment, and has found the Sniper Rifle, the BNN-S20, a little under-performing, and is now looking for stronger Sniper Rifles from overseas, can you recommend any differet rifles for dealing with different terrain?"

A sale rep of LAF's Personal Arms Division pulls out a double spread brochure and shows it to the man.

"Sharpshooting technology is not a major field in our industry, but we do produce adequate weapons for the job. This here is the M99, your standard 12.7mm high power precision rifle. Bolt action, semiautomatic, your range of scopes, free floating barrel, not much different from the anti-material rifles used anywhere else. Something special we do have for this rifle, is a purpose built armour penetrating cartridge for the M99, design for punching through APC armor and ballistic vests. Believe me when I say this, this bullet can go through one inch of 4340 steel at 200 yards, and I have yet to hear of a leader protected with enough bulletproof glass to stop this thing, haha...we can also produce the cartridge for other rifles, at a premium cost of course."

Across the stall, Eric fits the SCO-550 scope onto a M99 mockup and hands it to the Delfian.

"I'm sorry sir, but we can't try out a real rifle here, but you're more then welcome to visit or office here in the city. I'll write down the address for you, you can come anytime you want, I'll tell my boss to expect you. We have a indoor range where you can try the scope on a variety of rifles we have in the company's testing armory."

"ah that's a pity. You guys could have mounted a small sound proof range somewhere. Anyway, I would like to see more rifles where we can put this SCO-550. This 10cm bullets seem frightening!"

Points it above the crowd and looks at it for a second.

"This is really heavy stuff. What are the lightest snipers you have for this scope?"

ooc: 10cm??? That's a tank gun...

"Loyan doesn't produce a lot of sniper rifles, the M99 is the main sharpshooter's arm for the army, and most designated infantry simply use scoped assault rifles for the marksman role. We do have the FN Police Rifle, prominently used by SWAP, highly accurate and weighting at about 9.8 pounds empty I believe. In comparison, a Ak-47 weights in at about 8 pounds."

"Well, I think your out of luck here Sir. All I can suggest is you come back tomorrow, there will be more vendors coming then. The first day is usually for the major firms, but we have more smaller companies coming in the later parts of the convention."
