You forum/nation name?
« on: December 21, 2007, 02:55:03 AM »
So how did you guys think of your forum and nation names? I usually find these things to be interesting.

Anyways for me, Osafune came from the name of a sword in Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. I was just reading through the game guide that you get for free with a Nintendo Power subscription and saw it. In another game where I made oh-so-many enemies, one person called me Osamafune (from Osama Bin Laden if you weren't able to guess that :P ) and the name kinda stuck. It's hard to believe some times he meant that as an insult...

As for my nation name, I was trying to think of a name for a country in a game of sorts I was trying to make. I was thinking about the word "colossal" and Collosea came to mind.

Actually, I've told a few people this on IRC. For my high school German class, we were told to pick a town in Germany and make a tour brochure for it, or make your own town and do the same thing. I chose to create my own, using Age of Empires II to create my town, Talstadt, meaning "Valley city" for those of y'all who don't sprech the Deutsch. It worked fairly well, and I joined NS not long afterwards, so I figured, why not? For my name, it was easier for me to think of myself as a "citizen" of my now nation, therefore I became Talmann, "Valley man". And just so y'all know, I do not, nor ever have, live(d) in a valley. I live in Texas, so it's wide open space for me.

:D That's a beautiful one, Tal mate. Vielleicht darf ich mal dein Tal besuchen.  ;)

My NS nation (Red Kagran) name derives from a community (part of a district of the Danube quadrant) in the city of Vienna (where I did some of my studies) I used to cruise through on a regular basis. It stroke me as kind of an unusual name, of what sounded to me to be of celtic/nordic origin *found out later that etymology derives from the name of Lord/Duke Chagre, who had claimed those particular lands sometimes in the 12th century ;D* and in an attempt to play with it I added the attribute 'red', as Vienna has been known over the last century as a city of the Socialists and has often been called The Red City. The flag came after-wards and I think it fits the name of the nation.

My original NS nation however was called 'The Last Gunman' and it is currently asleep, as it has died and was revived more times over the past four years, so I decided that it deserved some peace ;). The name came from a Stephen King novel. I have derived my forum name from it and the attribute of PoD was added to it when I have joined The Lexicon and I changed the Gunman to Gunner (although I was afraid not to be mistaken for an Arsenal London fan :D), as I had initially planned to act only as a representative of my *first* home-region. Named Principality of Dionyssios, my first home region was founded by a Greek friend and although small, has given some remarkable NS players after it stopped being active (some of them still playing the game mostly in feederite regions). Once I had decided to join The Lex for good, it was too late to alter my user name and it actually worked well since there was also a short way to be addressed, as PoD. When Taijitu was born I had already made that name known, so there was no reason for me to make anymore changes.

That's about it.

mine has little to say, those who know mythology might understand. My quest for an 'internet' nickname became the first time I used IRC, long time ago. I've been always very fancy to mythology, I actually collected a whole encyclopedia of mythology when I was kid, along with a Larousse world history and Dinosaurs. In any way, I always identified myself with Apollo, sun and arts, also specific attributes of character in some way, and specially when I shared the first letter. It would be good for IRC.
I think my first nicknames were Apo or Apol...any other version of Apollo were taken.
Then I think it was a documentary that recalled me about the link of Apollo to earth, shared with Baco in some way, and I created a sort of mythology behind it, although the concept is actual mythology, Delfos being the link of gods to earth, not to mention one of the most known oracles. Since then I use Delfos, Delfos this, Delfos that. Delfos is the Portuguese version of "Delphos", in Greek it uses the same number of letters, although the phonetic termination is different from modern one.

Flemingovia is after Ian Fleming, creator of the James Bond noves. I started the game thinking about doing a 007 theme, but it never really got off the ground. The name stuck, though.

Nathaniel after the first name of most of my various pen&paper-RPG-characters, Feniexia based on Fenix, which reminds to Phoenix, the mythological bird; however, my nation has nothing common with that bird, but I just thought it sounded nice.

I came up with the Greater Canadian Empire, becuase I noticed we had Inglo-Scotia (Great Britian), Democratic States of America (USA) and the Confederate States of Dixie (CSA), so I thought, there should be a Canada as well. Just to fill in the gap. The Imperial Federation that the Canadian Empire leads, is an old idea. The British Empire was going to create the Imperial Federation before WW1, but unfortunatly, the EMpire was too spread out. So they decided not to. However, I am a continental power. I don't have colonies around the world. I have protectorates on the continent. So i have created my version of the Imperial Federation.

My original NS name was Chinese Loyalist.

I'm Canadian in birth, but also a fanatic Chinese. I'm a huge fan of the War of 1812, hence the Royal Loyalists reference. Just put Chinese into it, and hoped to make up the history along the way.

Nothing came up, and as a fellow RPer said, there was nothing "loyalist" about my country. When the new map came, I took Loya- from Loyalist and added an "n" to the end.

My original NS name(Korinna) was created to pay homage to a very near and dear friend of mine. It was shortened, but is still very close to that persons name. Actually now that I think about it, it's closer to her name now than it was then.

Originally, I thought about an old Roman theme for my nation.  I changed my mind, but kept the name.

Durnia is random.

Emperor Matthuis, I'm Matt, and I fancied myself as a Roman Emperor hence the pseudo-Roman suffix.

My gamer tag is Bender1968, so that's where Benderteria came out of.  I didn't want a nation called Bender1968.  the other nations/puppet states of Halertol, Haldonton and Halderton are just narcissistic, since my name is Hal.

My NS nation, Jutensa, I just made up by stringing syllables together almost at random in my head until I came up with something I liked.

Allama is, obviously, a pun on my name.  When I was in 10th grade a friend noticed "Alana" has the exact vowel sounds as "a llama" so it sounds very nearly the same, which led to it being shortened into one word, capitalized, and turned into an alias.  A number of others have independently made the same joke over the years, so I stuck with it.

Plus, llamas are awesome.  :wb:
