world power

Empirically speaking, the United States is bound to 'fall from power.' Not necessarily to third world status, but from of the position as 'The World Power.' As the Greeks, the Romans, Alexander, and the Pharaohs lost their status by letting the power get to their heads, so shall we (historically speaking only). We, US citizens, like to claim that we are smarter and that because we elect our leaders, and are not under a tyranny that is bound to be overthrown at some point, we will always be a world power. True, to a certain extent. But even democracies have fallen- who’s to say it will not happen to us? Especially if our nation continues to be so divided?

1st let me say, this is somewhat the continuity of 'Another political arguing', is about world power, post your thoughts, theories, whatever. doesn't have to be USA, poor Americans hahaha.

Well, I was slightly interested in this thread, comment on how being a superpower is absolutely not worth it because it entitles far too much work and inevitably falls apart into all sorts of bad things as no one can possibly manage the task for long without getting full of themselves or just losing track of everything, but I can' t help but feel insulted and belittled by a comment like "poor Americans hahaha"...

well if you get insulted by that....

anyway, comment further, who will be super power, will most of those Africa countries continue on poverty or become world powers?

My bet, middle-eastern countries will be the next world powers.

Well, I'm with Pragmia on this.  Why should it matter if the country one lives in is a superpower or not?  It seems to me that the quality of life there should be far more important than how it's doing on a competitive measurement against the rest of the world.  If I was the one to judge, I'd look at things like quality of healthcare, and the rate of unemployment, violent crime, hunger, suicide.  Not who is better off financially or who has the biggest weapons.

China MIGHT become the next superpower, but it's far from a sure thing, IMO.  The way things are going, the Middle East will either run out of oil and become another Africa, or blow each other to bits.

As for the US being a superpower, nothing lasts forever.  If we're lucky, we'll end up like Western Europe, which is still a decent place to live (based on what I've heard; I've never been there).  If not, we'll end up like the Old Roman Empire, with a collapsed civilization and barbarians in the streets.

yes i think you'r right Romanar.

What matters with being a super power or world power, will you be able to go to war as you often do? will it become a tyranny? and dictatorship? or a communism? or will it become nothing at all? Will it sink? Will it be ruled by Venezuelan economy? Instead of Americans selling weapons to others, will the Russian weaponry rule Americans being sold by Venezuela? You can't just say there's no difference.

The United States will fall (Not just from it's position, fall, period), there's no doubt about that. My guess is by 2100, but that's just me.

And "Poor americans haahah" is insulting. Your aura of "It's not my problem, so haha to the Americans" conflicts with your liberal view of helping people. Is death and pain alright when it's Americans who are the victims?

I think once America falls there really won't be any growth. America spurs the world on, whether you realise it or not. My view is that America will be the final superpower, and once it falls, so begins the horrid practice of...internationalism...

Given the way these things tend to cycle I would have said that China is next in line for world super power.....followed by various african states about a century later.....

Honestly, Delfos, two insults aimed at Americans in your last two posts.  What is it that makes you strive so hard to alienate all of the ones in this forum?

I wouldn't say that America "spurs the world on", but it is certainly large international influence.  But there has always been progress, since far before America became a country.  That doesn't stop just because the current headliner falls from grace.  We hog a lot of the attention right now.  If we suddenly weren't in the spotlight anymore, then the focus would simply shift to another country.  Progress will go on, with or without us.

Africa will develop alright. China haven't reached the top yet and is already having problems...

I dont believe that when US falls every other will fall, there might be some unstable times, but that's normal, or maybe the world gets ruled by the next generation of religion (looking back to roman fall and Christianity super power)

I would never count EU as a whole in that. Even if we reach the top there will be always differences, so it will either take some time to reach the top either some of the European countries reach the top without the rest and EU will never do it.

the 1st comment was making fun of my own view, so that americans wouldn't be beated up some more, if you see an insult there, take it your own way, but i'v found other things insulting towards my person, my country and my zone. If you consider it an insult and most of the americans talk about payback as vital, consider it a payback. At least it's not my intention to insult. Maybe you see insults where there are none? Anyway, i'v seen insults in this forum everywhere, why can't there be insults towards american? it isn't like 'hey you stink' or 'you ignorant prick'

anyway about super power, USA doesn't have that large base of economics to sink everyone in, truth is you spend and own most of the petrol of the world, so if you sink, you sink with it. We will have solar power and wind farms. oh wait, we already have :D. This is all a mega plot to sink USA as i heard in an american fanatic website, it said EU was founded to overthrow USA, and that the central building looks like the unfinished babylon tower (that's the intention), and that it stands for egoistic plot to reach the gods, and that the history of EU is a Bull that rapes a virgin, and that we support those ideals...lol great ideals for my liberal view.

Why is USA a super power?
