Let's Talk About Gay Sex With Myroria
« on: May 09, 2012, 07:50:40 PM »
President Obama has officially announced his endorsement of gay marriage, a day after North Carolina voters decided to constitutionally ban it in a poorly-written bill that affects far more than just homosexuals. Many people who support gay marriage believe that Obama's solid declaration for gay marriage rights in America is political suicide.

WHAT IS TAIJITU'S OPINION?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!?!?!

To be fair to North Carolina, it's hard to see how any court will interpret it to mean something 'beyond' banning gay marriage. Can a clearly biased blogger weasel an absurd, if hilarious, interpretation out of it? Of course. It actually happening is another matter completely.

Obama seems to have already slumped by about 3 points in the polls and drawn nearly dead even with Romney after Biden's comments on Monday. Judging by that, perhaps they figured that the damage was already done, and that the people who would vote against him because of it weren't likely to vote for him anyway, and they might as well go all in and try to energize the Democratic base and the young voters he'll need to win the election.

Of course it could turn out that there was still damage to be done, and whatever energizing the announcement accomplished won't be enough to compensate. Likewise, perhaps people would have just forgotten about Biden by November.

I can't really make any definite conclusions until new data is gathered, but if I had to take a guess I'd hazard this'll hurt him more than it helps, and that he shouldn't have done it and risked his already up in the air chances at reelection, since an Obama who didn't publicly endorse gay marriage would still be able to do more to work towards it than Romney would. I have to believe there's a non-trivial portion of people out there who could live with Biden, who'd likely never make it to the presidency, endorsing it, but not Obama himself. It's true recent polls have shown a majority in favor of gay marriage, including among the all important independents, but of course the people who vote are often not representative of the entire population.

Still, I'd be happy to be proven wrong, and may have to update my vote accordingly later if this is still here.

Sometimes leaders have to make tough decisions that they know is going to affect them badly in the polls. Its about time a President stood up and threw his support behind Gay marriage. I really don't understand the opposition to it. Bring on the election I say, I'm still convinced Romney will be defeated decisively.

So, RCP's average of various polls for Obama and Romney has updated for today, and Obama has actually ticked back up slightly. Interesting. Let's all now draw wild speculations from this minuscule data sample.

Also, why haven't you voted McMasterdonia D:

This was clearly an electoral move, not much more than that.
I support civil liberties to all extents, it's people's liberty to choose whatever they want, what are we to say they can or not can do to themselves?

Gay marriage is more than acceptable these days, it'd be an hypocrisy to continue to repress with nonsense logical and religion something so many want to be free to do. Are you a religious freak and think homosexual marriage and whatever else comes with it shouldn't be allowed because it makes God cry? Leave God out of politics and other people's lives.
Is it because your children might be influenced to be homosexual as well? Well then you either made a really good job raising them or a terrible one. Kids can't be shielded from sexuality issues, all the censorship is so unhealthy, it might be how successful a children's Edipus develops the way their sexuality is oriented, if you failed as a parent, it's your failure, not homosexual parents, not your children, and if you didn't fail and he grows out to be gay, well, good job, your son feels free enough from social repression to actually follow his own will.

I believe homosexual marriage and adoption should be legal as federal law (is that what you call when law is for all states?).

I also believe other things must change, if there's so many people freaking out about homosexuals and shoving their religion into politics then there's so many things wrong in the way society perceives politics are freedom. Free sexual education earlier in school, make sure homosexuality is part of education, teach to not discriminate. Isn't it a base for the constitution?

There's too much religion in American politics. Aren't you supposed, like the rest of the developed world, be free from religion?

Australian news: Prime Minister Julia Gillard should change her view on Gay Marriage, as her counterpart in the US Barack Obama has just thrown his support behind gay marriage.

For F's sake. This is simply ridiculous. I get that it would be all sunshine and daisy's if the PM supported Gay marriage. She has stated on the public record she does not, the media now claims the PM should change her mind because Obama did. If we did that with everything we would look like the biggest joke of a puppet nation in the world.

The PM is an athiest female, living with her boyfriend in the lodge. She has never been married, and has no children. Supporters of gay marriage shout about how she must actually support gay marriage given her lifestyle choice. Unfortunately for them, many, many, many unmarried athiest people do not support gay marriage. Sure the ones who are religious and married, may more commonly disagree with it. But there are many people, regardless of personal circumstance who simply view gay marriage as wrong, and improper. How ever pissy that view may be, that view is not uncommon. The media infuriates me sometimes

Rant over.
